I only stayed for one night but the free (!) private tea plantation tour (that I didn’t even know was included) was a definite highlight of my two month stay in Sri Lanka. I barely saw another tourist. The bungalow is set in such an incredible location - off the tourist track but more beautiful than anywhere I visited in Nuwara Eliya or Ella - and has the loveliest staff who couldn’t do enough to help. Dinner and breakfast are made to order and I enjoyed the very cute welcome tea in the gardens. So pleased I stumbled across it and wish I’d stayed longer and hiked some of the hills.

The tea plantation lodge is one of the oldest in Sri Lanka, more than 140 years old. The wooden floors are beautiful, and the place exudes character. The staff are supremely helpful and polite, you really could not wish for better. The food is also very good, without MSG, and in good quantities. The views are great, it's very quiet, and just a very relaxing place. Good value too. The best for last: the plantation tour and factory visit. The plantation tour is very informative, and makes you appreciate tea a lot more. The factory is also interesting, for those with a technical bent. We had not intended to do the tour, but are very glad we did.

We booked this last minute after a change of plan, we hadn’t huge expectations but this place grew on us quickly. It has changed little since the day it was built, with loads of original features and a good few later additions that sit somewhat out of place. You get a hint of what life felt like for the tea planters who lived here over a 100 years ago. The place is clean, bed comfortable, super peaceful, and in the most idyll setting among the tea plantation. The guys are hugely helpful and accommodating . The food, some of the best we had.

We stayed at Royal Majesty Bungalow one night as a way to break our train trip from Ella to Colombo. The 140 years old bungalow was an incredible piece of history in the green. The team made everything possible to make us feel at ease and we also got a very informative tour of the tea factory. Hatton is not a typical stop on the way to Colombo and you'll find very little tourism in the area.

Amazing staff and location and very interesting and unusual (in a good way) rooms. The staff helped organise transport to Adams peak at short notice and cooked good Sri Lankan dinner and breakfast.

Location, food & drink, history, tea tour, views & above all else the suberb staff who looked after us. Sri who organised Beer by Tut Tut & kept us hydrated with tea & coffee. He couldnt have been more organised. Always with a great smile. Gunna who cooked us delicious food at breakfast & dinner. His Sri Lankan omelette was a wonder to behold & taste. Lastly Rimus who took us on a marvellous tea tour. So interesting & informative. We will never look at a cup of Tea in the same way again. Yes the bathrooms & plumbing were dated but it was like stepping back into colonial history. We quite simply loved it. Thanks guys you were just great.

Most beautiful staying in Srí Lanka,it wasn't luxury but that touch of the history you should feel it, great kitchen and amazing very kind stuff. Very nice garden and we very enjoyed ourselves walking in tea plantation
