Beautiful swiss villa right in the center of Balestrand. Two balconies with views of the fjord and mountains, two living rooms, two bathrooms and three bedrooms. One extra living room/bedroom connected to one of the bedrooms. There is also two 90 cm beds in the the former upstairs kitchen. There are 13 beds and two cribs. 400 meters away there is a perfect sandy and children-friendly beach. Great hiking opportunities. Restaurants, grocery stores and cafées two minutes walk from house. My husband and I have just inherited this beautiful swiss villa. The house was built in 1914 by my great grandparents, and has been in the family since then. My mother grew up in this house, but the last decades it has only been used as a vacation house. The villa is a cosy wooden house with lots of charm and personality. Two en suite living rooms make a great space for one big or two medium sized families. From the kitchen you can see the breathtaking mountains (snow-capped year-round). They are actually Norway´s most painted mountains. From the living room windows and the balconies both at the main and second floors you have a view of the beautiful fjord.
My husband and I live in Bergen with our four children (twins born in 2015, girl born in 2013 and girl born in 2004.) Aslak works with theatre and bicycles, and I work in the Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK). We love spending time in Balestrand. The atmosphere, nature and fjord is amazing. We love laughing and bicycling! We are available through the Booking app/website and phone/Whatsapp. We also have local helpers and cleaners that can be of assistance.
Balestrand is special in the way it forms a cosy village with a well defined centre, unlike most small places in Norway, where the houses and facilities are more spread out. From the house you can get all that you could wish for literally within walking distance from the house: Cafés, museums, grocery stores, design stores, bars, restaurants, post office, aquarium, bike/boat/canoe/kayak rental, guided fishing trips to mention but a few. Other than that, Balestrand is known for wonderful light and breathtaking nature. This area of the Sognefjord has welcomed tourists since the 1800s. English lords and the German Emperor Wilhelm II also spent a lot of time in Balestrand and the Sognefjord area during about a hundred years ago. These visitors left their mark on the many villas in Balestrand, which show traces of both English and German wooden house architecture, most notably perhaps the use of dragon heads and beam ends on the facade. The English Church also is very special. This is also a wooden building, has many windows to the fjord, and a petite charm. Its interior was actually also the model for the crowning scene in the blockbuster film Frost.
