FAQs about hotels in Chiang Mai

The Rose of the North

Located among Thailand’s highest mountains, Chiang Mai is the beloved, idyllic and somewhat mystic capital of the North. Offering more than 300 temples, it is considered one of the most important cultural centres in the country.

Despite being Thailand's fifth-largest city, Chiang Mai still keeps a relaxed and laidback feel. Modernity, trendy shops and boutique hotels haven’t altered much of its picturesque and peaceful atmosphere.

This reputation is partly due to its proximity to mountains and lush green areas, like Doi Suthep Mountain and its panoramic Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep temple. The Doi Inthanon National Park is 60 km away and comprises Thailand’s highest mountain.

Hotels in Chiang Mai’s old city centre are a popular choice, offering a more picturesque experience, with its moat and older temples. Chiang Mai hotels can also be found around the Chang Klhan Rd, where the famous Night Bazaar takes place.

The city’s nightlife runs along the Loi Kroh Rd, while Ratchadamneon Rd hosts the main Sunday night pedestrian market. Don’t forget to buy an umbrella from Bo Sang and eat a bowl of kao soi.

Whether you arrive at Chiang Mai International Airport or come by land from Bangkok, don’t miss 'The Rose of the North' deals on Booking.com!

Chiang Mai is the jewel in Thailand's crown.

Chiang Mai is the jewel in Thailand's crown. A really amazing town with lovely, kind, and friendly people. Very safe and well priced. There are lots of cafes, restaurants, and eateries. Chiang Mai seems to be popular with European families which probably reflects its safety and ease of travel. I will definitely visit again (just not in the rainy season), and would highly recommend anyone to visit. My tip would be to stay in the central area not outlying areas as this will make life easier and more comfortable.

I like Chiang Mai and I will go back.

I like Chiang Mai and I will go back. It depends on what you want to do and see. I have been there before and have done quite a few tours and cooking classes. Some travellers like to stay in the Old Town and other districts. I downloaded the BOLT app, it’s like our Uber, and used that. Pay in cash. I do a lot of travelling and used cash in Chiang Mai for food and small purchases and my WISE card to pay in Thai Baht for expenses like accommodation etc to save on fees.

Charming cafes and stores tucked in street corners and along quiet side streets make walking a delightful experience. The temples are particularly majestic when the late afternoon or early evening sun (depends on what time of year you visit) softens the light.

What a fun city to visit in Thailand.

What a fun city to visit in Thailand. The people, the food and the overall vibe were just spectacular. We were there during the Water Festivlal and that made the visit all the more enjoyable. It was easy to walk about, but easier to snag a Grab or a tuktuk and get anywhere you wanted. So many temples, places to eat and markets to visit, that anyone and everyone would be fulfilled with any time stayed here in this city.

The hotel is a little bit tucked away in a quiet residential area. Yet, it is quite close to the old city of Chiang Mai. The hotel staff is super friendly and flexible with any requests. What we particularly liked was that all day there is free cold water, coffee tea and some other consumables available in the hotel lounge. That meant that it was easy to relax in the lounge. The rooms are not very big, but contain all the things you need. The hotel is relatively new so everything works fine.

We loved our stay at Oldy De Garden Hotel! We had a room with the most comfortable bed we've ever slept in – spacious and super cozy. The mini apartment had everything we needed for a comfortable and peaceful stay. It's also well located, close to the Old City. We highly recommend it!

Definitely one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed. Free transportation with the hotel open car within the old city (one way from the hotel) is offered. 2 free drinks per person for everyday during the stay has highlighted the stay. Also the staffs are wonderful.
