If you are looking for a small, friendly inn, close to the French Quarter and the music clubs in Frenchmen Street, Chez Palmiers (House of Palms) is the perfect spot for you. Set in a residential neighborhood, our cozy Creole Cottage is ideal for enjoying the best of New Orleans' sights while providing a quiet retreat. We are first and foremost a home. Guests will frequently be greeted by our basset hounds Marge and Mabel. The hounds love to lounge in the dining room at breakfast getting acquainted. Guests share experiences and stories at breakfast, so guests become part of our extended family when they stay with us. Our newly-constructed heated pool and deck will provide an excellent spot to relax. We invite you to our home, to experience the best that New Orleans has to offer.
Your hosts are Betsy and Bill Rayner. Bill wears his British birthright proudly, witnessed early on by his Cockney accent. Betsy's origins are in the heart of corn country, Illinois. The two remained an ocean apart until Betsy's final year at the University of Notre Dame. A summer abroad took Betsy to London, where Bill was running a courier business. A chance meeting in a pub, one pint led to another; Betsy and Bill became engaged. A few years living in London, then back to New York City. Along the way, the Rayner two became the Rayner four, with children Kelly and Billy added to the mix. After many visits to New Orleans, where Kelly was attending Loyola University, they fell in love with this city. A visit during the onset of Hurricane Katrina, witnessing the goodwill and resilience of residents, sealed the deal. Betsy & Bill are joined by their basset hounds, Marge and Mabel. Guests will be treated to a wagging tail and a daily croon of affection.
Situated in the historic Faubourg Marigny, we are within easy walking distance to the French Quarter. Within our own neighborhood, we have friendly bars and restaurants, ranging from dive bars to white tablecloth style. The new St. Claude streetcar line, right at the end of our street, provides a fun way to explore other parts of the city.
