Kershaw park very nice and scenic ; Active railway very attractive feature; Cathedral Gorge amazing. Lovely quaint little true-American town. The Catholic church really nice and welcoming for Sunday morning service. Need to finish the railway station building renovation! Shortage of good restaurants in the small town, but understandable.

Caliente is a great base camp for exploring everything in Lincoln County. The depot is there (although it is currently closed for renovations) and there's a cute little museum in a train car that's worth checking out. The Sidetrack Cafe is a good place to grab a meal, and there's a nice coffee cart for people like me who need to start their day with a foo-foo latte, not just a cup of black coffee. There are bike/hiking trails in Caliente that are super fun to ride. Nearby are 5 state parks Definitely check out Kershaw-Ryan right by Caliente and Cathedral Gorge further north, they are both really easy to get to. The others (Spring Valley, Echo Canyon, and Elgin) are a bit off the beaten path but also worth a stop. A great, authentic old west experience can be had in Pioche, which is about a half hour away, and if you're into alien stuff, Area 51 is within driving distance.

We went during the wrong time of the year. A lot of things were not accessible due to snow or were closed for the winter. That was entirely our fault. Next time we'll be sure to go before the first snow, maybe in November.

Caliente was very warm and welcoming.

Caliente was very warm and welcoming. We stayed on the way to Great Basin so didn't have much time. The train depot is wonderful for history buffs. Wish we could have seen the boxcar museum. The Side Track Restaurant was wonderful...had dinner and breakfast there and the servers couldn't have been better!
