Week or more (I was told by my hotel) advance ticket necessary to go there. Security blocks off whole area starting across wide street, sidewalk across road blocked too. Without access ticket one can't get close enough to see anything. Long queues--didn't see any special access for old, handicapped etc--there must be some somewhere but I saw none. Glad I had been there years before cuz it's not worth the effort now (May 2023).

Check the dates and times that you can participate in this. Long security lines, but it goes relatively quickly. I didn't know much about the history before going, so honestly it wasn't the most interesting place we went and it was very busy.

Bring your passport, they do check it at multiple points. If you go to the flag raising ceremony, you get a bigger crowd on weekend. Be aware that they raise the flag just at the crack of dawn, get there at least two hours ahead if you want front row (if you're not in the front, you're not going to see it, because parents will raise their kids on their shoulders).

Not much here unless you go inside the museum etc. But the museum can take up to a well to properly see everything inside. Cover up. Very hot and no shade. Tru and go away 7pm to see them take the flag down but get the very early to get a good view

Really just a very large square - but do persevere and wait for the lowering of the flag, to watch the synchronised marching display. But be warned, the locals gather to watch and you need to be in position 30 minutes before sunset.

The security check for the square is the same as for the forbidden city. No ticket is needed for the square but if you want to enter the forbidden city get your hotel or a chinese friend to help you buy them early that day online. There’s a daily visitor limit for the forbidden city.(At the gate they check your passports to confirm the purchase and give you the tickets.)

Location is the best it’s walking distance to Wangfujing street and so many great restaurants close by, also walking distance to the forbidden city, Tiananmen Square it’s minute walk to the metro station too 2. The staff are very helpful and friendly we arrived early morning and wished to check in earlier with 2 little kids, they tried their best to get one room cleaned and ready for us to rest a bit after 11 hours of night flight we’re very grateful! 3 breakfast is good too

It’s right next to the forbidden city and Tiananmen Square. There are also great shopping centers nearby. I enjoyed the view from my room. Staff was also very helpful. Concierge helped me order tickets to the Summer Palace and Temple of Heaven. They also helped me set up and address on Meituan :) (Basically Uberears or grub hub for American travelers)

I really like the location of the hotel, it's smaller than what I expected but it's very convenient to go places especially since there is the subway station just minutes away. Also, there are many shopping centers and the famous Forbidden City/ Tiananmen Square close by.
