Every friday after 18.00 the entrance would be free of charge. Although it's not enough to see the collections, but it worth if you just want to have a quick look at monalisa, venus. The Egyptian section still be my favorites
While undoubtedly one of the worlds great museums the crowds can be off putting. In the winter it's better and less crowded but we were there in August also and never again at that time of year.Selfie sticks should be banned there, it seemed to us that a lot of people went there took selfies at the most famous paintings and then left.
I was not a fan of arts, so i did not actually enter the museum. But even if you walk by the louvre square, beware of those gangsters who give out papers for you to sign. Although I was aware of their existence, kept my pockets empty and refused to have any contacts with them by saying "no", they still slipped their hands into your pockets, no matter you noticed their hands or not. They don't steal, but ROB now!!
Get a pass and skip the lines. It's so worth it. We walked through the gardens to the Louvre. Best way to arrive. Give yourself at least 3-4 hours for a quick tour. Expect the Mona Lisa to be packed out. Head for the lesser known exhibits during busy times. The louvre map is pretty useless but there are some great guides online. Get your hands on one and plan ahead to avoid lots of unnecessary walking. Look up often because there are suprises on the ceilings. Don't download the Louvre audio app as it's a waste of time. If you want an audio tour then grab a headset at the front desk.
We have a free walk tour guide at the hostel where I stayed you can join with them at the lobby around 10am meeting time. If you are first time its good for you to join and you will not waste your time looking how to go to Louvre. Cash tips to the tour guide is all up to you how much you want to give. Not at all is fine with him.
Make sure you get your tickets on line with a time frame for entrance as there is always a long queue at the ticketing booth. Amazing exhibits and one day is hardly enough for a thorough visit. Audio guides are enough to understand the history of the exhibits.

The personal had an amazing attitude, very nice all of them, from the cleaning crew all the way to the gentlemen at the front desk. The location was excellent too, 5 minutes walking from the closest train station, 20 minutes from Notredame, 25 minutes from Louvre Museum, it was very convenient for our group of 7 with 2 kids. Price was a little too high but I guess it is because is Paris and the location.

Location perfect for Eiffel Towel and Louvre Museum
Go to the Louvre on a Thursday, it's a lot quieter. Don't queue up at the pyramid; use the underground entrance next to the metro. If you're under 26, don't queue for a ticket, just show your passport at the entrance to the exhibitions
Choose hotels and restaurants that aren't "name-branded" chains. Explore side streets. Go to mass instead of just touring Notre Dame or Sacre Coeur. Visit the Louvre on Sunday when it is free to mingle with the locals. Take the metro instead of cabs. It's cheaper and can be part of the adventure if you live in a city without a subway.
Musee d'Orsay had an exhibition of Van Gogh's work which was amazing. I also really enjoyed Musee Rodin which has his sculptures displayed in the gardens which are worth a visit in their own right. The scent of roses was lovely. It is also great to watch the artists at work in the streets around Sacre Coeur Cathedral. The architecture of buildings in Paris is also really attractive and varied. And then there is the Louvre - really too much to take in on one visit.
Musee du Louvre is, in my opinion, the best starting place. Be prepared to spend a whole day there.
The Louvre and Musee D'Orsay for the major collections and The Orangery for Monet's Waterlillies for a taster of Impressionism.
If you pick your time it is not that busy. Definitely get onto a small group guide of the Louvre though
