The Grand Bazaar is mostly jewellers selling the same products. It's a shame as we were expecting a diversity of products. There's better shopping outside of the Grand Bazaar (and cheaper prices).
Its over rated and have got very expensive. it seems everyone at grand bazar, be it lamps, or souvenirs or even dry fruits, have jacked up the rates. its better to buy from other places like Istiklal street or lanes of Galata area.
Every thing is over priced and good luck if the sellers find out you are a tourist! Restaurants around the Bazaar are also mostly expensive and not a good value for money! Good to visit but not to buy things from
Just a crazy place of shops - too big you will surely get loss. The only thing that attracted me here is the Exchange. You can get better Exchange Rate in this place then that from Google on the same day. On the day when i was exchanging, the Google rate was 1 Eur to 21.5 Here I got for 1 Eur to 22.2 But i found a better shop at 22.5 Just that i can't find that shop after some walking around. So its easy to get loss here
too crowded, it is disappointing to see how many tourists are assaulting this place to bargain on fake items just for the sake of securing an improbable high fashion item. All the shops have the same stuff and ask for 3 times their real value only because of a fake brandname!
Huge! I was there 2 times and the 2nd time didn't impress me like the 1st time. If you look around you will notice everybody is selling the same items (pottery, spices, lamps...). I liked more the bazaars in Iran but definitely a 'must see' place in Istanbul
Home Quality Hotel was a good place to stay, tucked away in a corner of the Sultanahmet Old Town district of Istanbul. It's about a 10-minute walk to the Hagia Sofia and Blue Mosque area, which also has a tram stop that connects to the Grand Bazaar area as well as Beyoglu/Istiklal/Karaköy areas. We were there during mid-March so the cold, rainy weather prevented us from having the rooftop terrace breakfasts. Staff is very helpful.
The hotel staffs are amazing very friendly and helpful. Special thanks to Ramazan, Dileck, Ayu, Mehmet, Shirin and Nazimye. The hotel is conveniently located near most of the historical buildings (aya Sofia, Topkapi palace, grand bazaar, spice bazaar, blue mosque and many more) My family and I love this hotel we don’t stay anywhere else whenever we are in Istanbul other than this hotel. Book this hotel you will not be disappointed.
We chose the DoubleTree hotel near the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, having had positive experiences with the chain before. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the check-in process was smooth. The room was spacious and perfect, making our initial impression quite positive. However, the only drawback was the defective mattress, which was full of undulations. It made sleeping extremely uncomfortable, and we woke up with aches.
The Euro Design Hotel is a valiant effort but falls short on its promise. The rooms are small albeit nicely appointed. The Hotel was clean and well looked after by way of its house keeping staff. However, there is little or no room service, the breakfast needs improvement and the rooms could do with better sound proofing. Location is fantastic - 850M from Grand Bazaar, 1KM from main attractions in Istanbul!
Great hotel with a great location. 5 5-minute walk to the Grand Bazaar or Aya Sufie. The staff is super friendly and very helpful to requests. I liked our stay there. It's also near the sea if you're up to going for a jug. A lot of great restaurants nearby as well. The breakfast was nice, it's a Turkish-style breakfast with additional continental breakfast options.
For a 2 night Istanbul halt, this place is OK. Close to Blue mosque, Hagia sofia, grand bazaar, palace and the few places of interest of Istanbul Old City. Thats the only advantage. The rooftop dining area view is available in many hotels around here. My room had a decent view of the small park in front and the Bosporus and hagia sofia.
All staff was excellent, they helped us find a very comfortable taxi. Aaron was courteous excellent and assisted with our cruise, let us borrow a metro card and our son really enjoyed hanging out with him in the lobby. Beautiful small hotel with excellent breakfast and central to grand bazaar and all site seeing, easily accessible by tram.
Hotel was beautiful, not quite 5 stars but definitely 4.5. Buffet breakfast (best I experienced in Istanbul) was amazing and was close to Grand Bazaar and other attractions. Elif in reception was excellent to deal with and ensured we had a wonderful stay. Will stay again next year.
We enjoyed the location of the hotel which was very close to the tram, grand bazaar. Close to the people there which allowed us to experience Istanbul and it’s culture
Friendly staff and they were helpful, the rooms were clean and comfy beds. The hotel is close to the Grand Bazaar, 5 mins walk. Highly recommended
Grand Bazar is just for visiting not for shopping as costs are higher here. The funny thing is that everything is about negotiation in shops or on the streets. You will have a big surprise that the final price you are paying it is with 30% - 50% less. I.e. Turkish yoyo on the street is 5TL but if you offer 2.5 TL you're gone have it :) Good look.
Visit The Grand Bazaar in the evening, before closing to avoid the crowd. For the rest of sightseeing afternoon around 3-5 pm is the least crowded time.
A large number of retail stores near by Sultanahmet, Cemberlitas and Grand bazar selling genuine leather shoes, they are offering latest models and a large number of brands at very good prices.
One can experience the contrast of the 1001 night feel of the grand bazaar to the slick city state of the art shopping malls , and to an antique flea market in the French quarter . A unique city
Grand bazaar is amazing but good luck getting round without being hassled
The atmosphere. You can find most of these things in other places but not in market places with such heady atmosphere as in Istanbul. It is an experience to spend time in Grand Bazaar even if you buy nothing. Shopping areas in India, my country, are equally interesting but they tend to be dirty and full of traps like potholes and overflowing drains. Istanbul has the atmosphere without these problems. The place we liked most was Arasta Bazaar near the Blue Mosque.
