熊野庵 Guesthouse Kumano Iori
I had such a wonderful stay at Guesthouse Kumano Iori! I didn’t realise we’d have the entire place to ourselves, which made the experience even more special. It’s a beautiful traditional Japanese ryokan with modern appliances and amenities, making it the perfect place to relax and recharge after a challenging day hiking the Kumano Kodo. The host was absolutely amazing! She kindly picked us up at Hongu Taisha and prepared a really lovely breakfast for us. Her hospitality made our stay even more memorable. The guesthouse is also conveniently located just a 5-minute walk from Ukegawa bus stop, making it easy to get around. I couldn’t have asked for a better place to rest after our hike. I’d definitely stay here again if I get the chance. Highly recommended! ❤️
Kawayu Onsen Fujiya
Perfect Location: The location is absolutely excellent, situated right in front of the beautiful river. It was so peaceful. Authentic Rooms: The rooms are traditional Japanese style—very cozy, clean, and pleasant to stay in. Incredible Food: The food was outstanding! You can really tell that a lot of thought, care, and effort went into preparing every single meal.
Ashita no Mori
One of a kind hotel at the heat of Japan's nature
tsudoi
We stayed in a 2-bed room, felt very cozy.
一棟貸し民宿 川湯の家
The property was spacious and clean. The property gave us snacks and drinks which were very delicious and thoughtful. The owner was so friendly and went through the whole house with us. It was the most pleasant experience on Kumano Kodo.
Sansuikan Kawayu Midoriya
Exceptional views of the forest, rooms are big. And the Onsen was also incredible, it has an interior, and exterior bath just next to the river. I definitely recommend it!
Sansuikan Kawayu Matsuya
Clean. Good location, close to the bus stop and a fantastic view of the river. Comfortable. Efficient staff.

ゲストハウス Rei
My family liked how it was an authentic local guest stay! The place is comfortable, relaxing, and clean. The host was very informative and welcoming. The location was also very convenient. We were around five minutes close to the restaurants and seven minutes from Hongu Taisha-mae. We definitely recommend!

Nice home with many amenities including washing machine, a real dryer and a full kitchen.

The host was very accommodating when I arrived a lot later than planned, which I really appreciate. The beds were comfy, facilities all clean and new. Would definitely stay again

Beautiful location on the river…the private onsen baths were very nice and much larger than expected and were easy to find openings many times in the night and morning. Perfect temperature. The hotel traditional breakfast was excellent. Would definitely recommend and stay again!
Definitely the onsen. There’s an option for private and public onsens, and also public/private options. Full board with breakfast and dinner included
Mandy is a wonderful host. We rocked up on her doorstep after trekking in the rain all day, dirty and soaking wet. She looked after us, cleaned and dried our clothes and cooked us a fabulous meal. It was like a home away from home, and much needed comfort at the end of our Japan adventure. Thank you Mandy!
This hotel is run by the kindest couple, and I’m still thinking about how good dinner and breakfast were. Some of the best meals of my trip! You can also order lunch for the trail. The onsen was wonderful after a long day hiking. Room was on the 3rd floor and very quiet, it was compact and simple, very clean, with everything you might need, including yukatas for dinner and towels for the onsen. Shared toilets and sinks in the hall were never busy; there are two communal showers inside the onsen. I asked about laundry and they took mine and washed it for me within a few hours! The bus stop to Shingu or Hongu was a one-minute walk from the hotel. Yunomine Onsen was such a unique town, I feel lucky to have stayed here and enjoyed such great hospitality!
Beautiful old ryokan in the center of Yunomine Onsen, with key historical sites located just across the street. The onsens in the ryokan, especially those outdoors, are lovely. The kaiseki ryori dinner was incredible -- so luxurious, interesting, delicious and served in a semi-private dining room. Given our limited exposure to kaiseki, we appreciated that our server explained the food we were eating in English and how best to eat it. Our room was spacious with a view of the center of town. We were hiking the Kumano Kodo, so also appreciated the friendly staff helping us figure out how to take the bus the following morning to our next trailhead. I read my husband an article years ago about hiking the Kumano Kodo in which Ryokan Adumaya was highlighted, and have wanted to stay there ever since. We were not disappointed!
Tucked away in a peaceful, beautiful setting, this is easily one of the best BnBs.
Staying at Chanoka was a true highlight of our recent trip to Japan. Our room felt like a private retreat, with an epic view and every comfort thoughtfully provided: cozy chairs, tatami flooring, a lovely selection of teas (of course!), and a private washroom. After long days of hiking, it was exactly the kind of comfortable, welcoming space we needed. We opted for dinner, breakfast, and bento lunches, and were so glad we did. Every dish we enjoyed in the beautiful traditional dining room was exceptional. We especially appreciated the care behind each preparation and the thoughtful explanations that accompanied the meals. It’s clear that Jordan and his wife care deeply about the land they steward, the food they grow and prepare, and their tea harvest. I left with a deep appreciation for the subtle, layered flavours of roasted green tea, rice, soy sauce, and other delicacies, and with a lasting sense of genuine hospitality. Jordan also kindly drove us to the trailhead in the morning - a welcome treat for our sore muscles. After we left, we realized just how much we appreciated Chanoka’s peaceful setting, tucked away from the hubbub of Hongu. We will definitely be back.

Villa KUMANO
Good location to biggest inari . Close to gas station, bus cafe, shop and restaurant. Very warm welcome town. Charming star view at night . All rooms are comfortable. Kitchen, laundry, refrigerator, beer and ice . Very good place to stay.
熊野四季亭
Very comfortable and clean stay. I liked that the room had a sink in it. The host was extremely accommodating, kind, and fun to talk to
The view from the parking lot is the only saving grace of this place. Other than that there was a plus in that the host was responsive via whatsapp.
The guesthouse was beautiful. We appreciated the child's drinks in the fridge and the very yummy bento box dinner. The rolls for breakfast were excellent.
Cottage Kirihata
The host was fantastic! He was superbly helpful in giving me advice on my hike. When it rained on the day I was supposed to hike, I told him about changing my plans and he gave some advice on where to drop off my luggage, etc., and even gave me a protein bar! Apart from the fantastic host, the cottage was in great condition and it had really interesting, traditional-style decor while still having all the modern amenities (e.g. full kitchen - super helpful). I slept very comfortably.
Guesthouse Shitanoe - Vacation STAY 73436v
This is such a unique property that it begs a narrative and not just numerical ratings. First of all, the location is key because the hike from our previous location was so far. It was much more pleasant to break it up and arrive at Kumano Hongu Taisha early, have lunch, and arrive at Yumomine hot springs early before everyone else showed up. I'm not sure how everyone else is doing their mapping, but the trail goes north near this place before dropping south to Hongu Taisha. The place is located in a small village, and the property seems to have been a business next to the river. It's super quiet and the view of the river and mountain behind it is lovely. It's a super safe small town and the door is left open. The host is lovely, and speaks pretty good English. He stopped by in the evening to check in with us. The place is quiet and clean, has beautiful views, but sparsely decorated. My GF says "it needs a woman's touch" ;). There's a grocery store nearby, though the meals provided by the host were outstanding. Breakfast and lunch gets delivered between 6 and 7 AM.
