Set in a historical building, a 4-minute walk from Huayan Temple East Plaza, Pipa Hotel offers accommodation in Datong City. Free WiFi is available throughout the property. Everything at the hotel was exceptional: the clean rooms, bathrooms, the delicious breakfast, coffee available all day (for a small fee), the location in the middle of the ancient city. The hotel staff was especially nice. Questions were answered in English (if an English speaker was available) or with the use of a translation app. We could book train reservations and a taxi ride to the Hanging Temple. The directions for using the city bus for the Yungang Grottoes were very good. All in all, I would recommend the hotel to anyone who wants a several-day stay.

Totally amazing place to stay! Highly recommended. First of all, it is only 7 mins walk from the ancient city of pangyao. It is also so nearby the railway station. You can go by DIDI or bus, both are so convenient. Second, the decor of the place is AMAZING! I couldn’t help take pictures and video when i first came it. They even have a swing and glass-fish! The staff are so friendly and nice people. The Owner gave me water when i first came and when i left. Whenever i ask for anything she always helps. They have bar and food there with nice prices. I didn’t eat there but saw the food, it looked so delicious. The rooms were also amazing, it is two levels bed and mine was the one above. Surprisingly, it was so comfortable too. When i move it doesn’t vibrate into the bottom bed. The toilet is clean and they have shower gel, hair shampoo, small towel, and toothbrush with toothpaste ready for you to use. The air conditioner works fine and the wi-fi is connected from my room.

Breakfast was delicious, and the staff were so kind, warm, and helpful, making us feel very welcome from the very first moment.

If you want the romance of a traditional courtyard with true boutique-hotel comfort, stay here. The property is brand-new, immaculate, and beautifully lit at night. Rooms are quiet and minimalist with great water pressure, reliable fast Wi-Fi, plenty of bedside outlets, and strong AC/heat. The bed and linens meet Western comfort standards. Breakfast can be chosen Chinese or Western—I tried both during my stay and each was fresh, well-presented, and generous (fresh juice and good coffee/tea included). Staff were proactive and friendly, arranged luggage pickup from the city gate, and communicated smoothly in English. The location is perfect for walking the lanes yet peaceful once inside the courtyard. Tips for Western travelers: cars can’t enter the old town, so message the hotel for pickup; wear comfortable shoes; and leave time to simply enjoy the courtyard—part heritage museum, part modern gallery. A flawless stay.

Wonderful hospitality from the moment we arrived. Staff were most welcoming, accommodation quaint, yet modern. Lovely afternoon tea was a nice touch. Transfer from train station to hotel and back was most appreciated. Just made the holiday so much better!

This was a treat :) it is in the old city walls where there is tons of shopping, eating and sightseeing. We were also easily able to book a tour that picked us up at the hotel for the big sites light the pagoda, hanging temple and grottos. We wanted an English guide so booked through another source, but the hotel would also arrange for a taxi service if you wanted. The city wall is just across the street and you can ride bikes up there and during the evening there are shops and bright decorations. The 9 dragging screen with the glasses tiles is also a short walk. Museums, pagodas, temples, quaint streets and busy markets are all within walking distance. It is a bit away from the new city center and the south railway station (where all high speed trains come in) … BUT they arrange for free transportation to and from the hotel. It was apparent at every step of the way that those working were eager to please and wanted the stay to be perfect. They upgraded our room free of charge when they saw we had two kids and only 1 bed. The larger room was available so they have it to us to make the nights more comfortable. They also provide a free breakfast each morning and the food was outstanding. They made it to order and over fed us each day. Laundry machine and detergent is available for use. The facilities are very newly updated and clean. We wished we could have stayed for longer.

We travelled in a group of 3 pax and requested for an additional bed; we were very happy to see this already arranged by the time we checked in after a long flight and given an upgrade to the executive size. Room was clean, spacious and bedding comfortable with a Nespresso machine in the room. We also enjoyed the diverse spread at breakfast - with lots of local fare and a good balance of non- local to choose from. We also appreciated the amazing speed of the staff who responded to our requests with friendliness and alacrity - the concierge desk, the bellboys and the ladies at the breakfast counters were very helpful during our stay. Highly recommended for a comfortable stay in Taiyuan
