Staying at Eko-in was an exceptional and unforgettable experience. I highly recommend booking the Okunoin cemetery night tour—it was both atmospheric and deeply moving. The meals are fully vegetarian and beautifully presented. If you're not a fan of tofu, some of the dinner dishes might not be to your taste—but that, too, is part of the cultural and spiritual experience. I was initially anxious about sleeping on a traditional futon, but it turned out to be surprisingly comfortable and added to the overall sense of authenticity. A truly unique stay.

Great location, only steps away from Hayatama Taisha and a 15 min walk to Kamakura shrine. Also, host was very welcoming and helpful.

This was the most wonderful stay I have experienced. I stayed here whilst I did the Kumano Kodo. I loved the style of the building. The location was great for the walk itself as a half way point. You feel exhausted after that first day and this is a great place to stay to rest and recoup. The welcome drink was very welcomed and we enjoyed it in the lovely garden. The room its self was plush and so comfortable. Hitomi and Omry did everything to make this the most comfortable and enjoyable stay. I don’t even know where to start with the meal, you must book the dinner, breakfast and lunch. It was definitely at the maximum end of my budget to do this but I will never forget the experience. Me and my friend shared a 5 course dinner, all courses were oishi (delicious) and so perfectly presented. Even now 2 months later I can remember the dinner and the flavours and how it made me feel. The packed lunch the next day was perfect fuel for the walk. Great shower to rinse off from the day as well and lovely living room area.

Hospitality was amazing and even gave us some manju that they make in their shop to try!! Delicious! Perfect stay in a great location for the kumano kodo trail. Would definitely stay again!

The monk who runs the property was so helpful recommending local restaurants and giving advice and even gave us a lift to the station. There were free drinks including alcohol. The rooms are part of a temple. The hotel is very close to the main shrine and not far from the station so a great location. The place to stay in Shingu. Good value for money.

The host is super friendly and speaks very good English. Our room and the bathroom facilities (used by only 1 other room) were very clean. Water boiler and microwave in the room. What we liked most was the relaxed atmosphere for dinner - the food was great and we got a chance to taste several typically Japanese dishes. So make sure to book with food if possible! At the beginning we found it a bit pricey, but in the end it was really worth it
