Numerous cycle paths around the lake, lookouts, vineyards,...
Numerous cycle paths around the lake, lookouts, vineyards, some restaurants around the cycle paths are closed even though Google shows them to be open. But there are occasional places to refill drinking water on the cycle paths. The bike paths are flat and suitable for everyone, but there is almost nothing in the shade for children, so you will spend the whole day in the fire if you come in the summer :) but to get wet you can jump into the lake - only from the beach for a fee, or you can get a card at the local accommodation for free entry. The disadvantage of the lake is very, very many mosquitoes in the early evening at the lake.Guest review byVitekVojkovskyCzech Republic - 10.0

Illmitz is a great location for visiting the Neusiedler See National Park. It has a good choice of restaurants; our hotel (Hotel Post) did evening meals Thu-Sun, so we had a chance to try other restaurants on oher evenings (Heuriger Holzhammer Pusztascheune Illmitz, Antonios Hof). Before leaving we used the web site https://www.birdingplaces.eu/ which had good information on places to visit and what we might expect to see. The hotel itself also had a good booklet on local places to visit and wildlife and we bought an English language version. There is also a good National Park Information Centre.Guest review byPeterUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Pamhagen has limited attractions itself but has opportunities close by and further afield. It is a few minutes walk from the Hungarian border. We do recommend the Gasthaus zum Türkenturm for a meal - just 30 seconds walk from the house. We took the opportunity to hire cycles and to visit Neusiedler See. Podersdorf am See is on the lake and there are good places to eat and drink whilst watching the activities on the lake. Whilst staying in Pamhagen we used our car to visit three capital cities, all within reasonable reach: Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest. The first two are easy to get to on the motorways or cross country, whilst the Hungarian capital is further but straightforward to go to.Guest review byGordonUnited Kingdom - 8.0
I believe many have never heard of Neusiedler See, although...
I believe many have never heard of Neusiedler See, although the region and eponymous national park are part of UNESCO’s protected cultural landscapes. The lake’s eastern shore is considered one of the most rich natural world heritage sites. Neusiedler See is sometimes named the Viennese Sea, as the lake is the largest in Austria - a country with one of the most lakes in Europe. Slightly salty, the lake can warm up to 30 degrees Celsius in the summer. What makes this region truly unique is its soil, ideal for winemaking. Unsurprisingly, Scheiblhofer, an esteemed Austrian winemaking company, found its home on the easternmost shore of the lake. The estate, stretching 104 hectares, includes an outstandingly original wine-hotel-cum-event-place since 2022. The Seewinkel region is famed for its salty marshlands, beef, the legendary pork Mangalica and much more, which you can experience and taste in this one-off, exceptional wine hotel. Andau is a village bordering Hungary, easily accessible by car through the winding local roads that merge onto the nearby motorway crossroads. Guests most often arrive from motorway A4, connecting Vienna and Budapest. Vienna and Andau are eighty-five kilometres apart or an hour’s drive. Bratislava is even closer, approximately forty minutes away. Understandably, the hotel takes excellent care of guests arriving by car. A spacious underground parking garage with electric charging stations ensures guests arrive elegantly. Although Andau lacks a train station, you can take the train to St. Andrä am Zicksee. You can take a bus or taxi or arrange a hotel shuttle from there. Bus connections leading to Andau are punctual and frequent, too, as apt for Austria. Should you host an event in the hotel, note that this region of Austria is a cycling paradise. Crisscrossing the picturesque countryside can be an unforgettable team experience. You can rent bicycles in the resort, too.Guest review byGorazdSlovenia - 10.0
Perfect destination for families with children.
Perfect destination for families with children. The lake is quite warm, shallow, the beach is nice, well equipped with playgrounds, possibilities to eat and drink, have a shower. In the town there are enough restaurants, supermarkets, often markets.Guest review byPeterSlovakia - 8.0
It is an excellent place for families with kids.
It is an excellent place for families with kids. Also one big advantage is that it is easy to reach from Vienna with public transport. The lake at Podo beach is shallow to far away so for kids who cannot swim yet but are trying to learn it is perfect. The Podo beach play areas are excellent and interesting for children. There is a restaurant within the beach area which is quite fine, but one can also go to the nearby restaurant outside the beach and come back. We found out that with the Burgenland card issued to us upon checkin one can go in and out of the Podo beach as often as one likes. Also near one of the entrances to the Podo beach there is very well supplied supermarket- no need for us to go all the way further into the town in search of supermarkets.Guest review byMadalinaAustria
