The very comfortable king-sized bed was the best part of our Outback Retreat glamping experience. The view out to the bush from the sizeable deck was also a very relaxing spot to spend time. The grounds, landscaping and general facilities, including the two swimming pools and general store at Cooinda Lodge were all good. So was the pizza we shared at the Barra Bar. The location is also very convenient for taking a Yellow Water Cruise which we would highly recommend doing, especially a sunrise one when the wildlife is waking up. It's magic!

While the decor in the room was quite dated, it was extremely clean and the AC worked well. The bed was large and very comfortable. We were able to park just outside our room. The pool area was attractive with plenty of lounges.

We loved everything about our stay at Cicada Lodge. The peaceful location, within walking distance of Nitmiluk Gorge, is fabulous as is the comfort of our room, the bush view from our private balcony and the attention given to us during our stay. Each night we were warmly welcomed by the staff with complimentary drinks and canapés around the pool. The two course breakfasts are exceptional and were complemented by the most flavoursome freshly-squeezed orange juice I have ever tasted. I also appreciated that our pots of breakfast tea were made from leaves, not teabags. It is the little details that make all the difference. Watching the sunset on our second night, as we dined poolside on modern Australian cuisine, created a very magical memory, even more so because it was my birthday. One of the delightful staff got wind of the occasion and presented my dessert with a candle and a “Happy Birthday” message she had iced with flourish across the plate. She seemed to get as much of a kick from it as I did. We would highly recommend a stay at Cicada Lodge. It is definitely a worthwhile indulgence.

The area is wonderful. The sunset deck with pizzas is great. Having ready set camping facilities awaiting your arrival is a great way to camp. Thé shared bathroom block was very clean and well equipped. Shared Kitchen was also well equipped.

We stayed in Katherine for one night at Gorge View, had a meal of crocodile and Barramundi at the Katherine Club on O'shea Terrace, next morning went to the Katherine Outback Experience which we thoroughly enjoyed and had lunch at the New Shanghai restaurant. Only regret is that we didn't visit the Katherine School of the Air.

Go to Yellow Water Billalong, Ubirr and Nourlangie and definitely visit the waterfalls while you are here. If you don't have a 4WD, book an all day tour and they can take you. We are dinner at the Mercure restaurant. We had breakfast in Jabiru township.

Fantastic staff at the visitor information centre who were able to get me booked onto a Nitmulik Gorge Tour for the next morning. An absolutely beautiful space with amazing tour guide, Casey I think 🤔🙂

This is a very small spot in the middle of the jungle. Little market provides some basis food and clothes but one should not rely on it for its supplies. Good place to stop while visiting Kakadu park. Well positioned to visit all sites. Walking distance to Bowali visitors center.

It was a room (upstairs) with a bed and a fridge but not much else. The shower's taps were a feet level with nothing to hold on to when stepping in. The plastic plant on the bedside table just took up space. The restaurant was very different - it was welcoming, clean and the food was very nice. We only stayed one night.

Jabiru is a small town in the heart of Kakadu National Park, Northern Territory. It’s a perfect base for exploring the park’s stunning landscapes, Aboriginal rock art, and diverse wildlife. Highlights include Nourlangie Rock, Yellow Water Billabong cruises, and scenic flights over Kakadu. The Bowali Visitor Centre offers great cultural and ecological insights. Accommodation ranges from eco-lodges to resorts, and local eateries serve simple but hearty meals. Best visited during the dry season (May–October) for easier access and cooler weather.
