Pilar and Jesus were amazing hosts . “DETAIL “ is the secret to this accommodation. Everything is so detailed and it is a credit to the hosts. The property is located in a very quiet rural location with fabulous views. Peace and Tranquility in a beautiful renovated house, with some fabulous personal touches. The food is top class. I had a Steak and I don’t ever remember having one as nice or as well cooked to perfection. I would highly recommend this accommodation.

FAQs about hotels in Cantabria

The Colours of Nature

Bordered by the Bay of Biscay to the north, the small Spanish region of Cantabria is known for undulating, lush landscapes which sharply rise to sheer peaks in the south-western Picos de Europa mountain range.

The capital Santander is an important port and has a long promenade lining its sandy beach. The coastline to the west is packed with Cantabria hotels on the beach, some of which are in Comillas. This small town has a number of interesting buildings, including Gaudí’s Capricho. West in the Oyambre National Park is San Vincente de la Barquera. Take to the water for spectacular views of this village, its impressive bridge and the often snow-capped mountains beyond.

At Suances to the east, green cliffs plunge to the sea, while nearby medieval Santillana del Mar is the closest town to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Altamira cave paintings. Another medieval jewel is inland Potes whose cobbled streets and stone bridge over a stream are all in the shade of the Cantabrian mountains. In the east of the region, the rocks at Noja descend into crystal-clear waters, while Laredo’s curving bay ends in a hill that offers lovely views.

Whether you opt for one of the luxury hotels in Cantabria, an apartment or guest house, Booking.com has a great range of choice.

We absolutely loved our stay at Cabañas con Encanto! It totally met all of our expectations. The location is incredibly serene and peaceful, surrounded only by other cabins spaced out at a perfect distance, with the soothing sound of the river in the valley below. The view was simply breathtaking! From the moment we arrived, we felt warmly welcomed—the hosts had already heated the cabin for us, making it cozy and inviting. Everything we needed for a comfortable stay was provided: a well-equipped kitchen (including a moka pot, toaster, pans, and even a dishwasher), a reliable heating system, a hot shower, and a charming fireplace with firewood ready to use. We couldn’t have imagined a better place to spend two perfect days immersed in nature. Highly recommended—this place is truly magical!

We liked arriving and leaving.

We liked arriving and leaving. The bit in the middle was spoilt by the unreal sanitised environment. There was nothing of Spain in evidence. For example, pay 5 euros to have your photo taken with a donkey. Overpriced restaurants ( compared to other popular parts of Cantabria and Asturias)Are there any Spanish people left living in Santillana?

There are 2 Suances, the main town up on the heights and then the beach Suancs with all the restaurants, bars, cafes and kiosks to suit the many beach visitors Our accommodation was in the town on the heights and it was only when we saw the view from the roadside Tourist Office in the way into town that we appreciated how high we were above sea level. The zigzag drive from town to beach would be considered spectacular out in the country rather than a build-up area. There is a shortage of parking during the day at the beach level during the time we were there, Wednesday to Sunday though we had no plans to go on the beach or into the sea, the weather being simply too hot during the extreme heatwave at the time of our visit. We were happy to continue on last the beach access roads and drive up to the lighthouse in the headland and take refuge from the heat on the shaded terrace of a large bar/cafe/ restaurant with cooking breezes.

We were there at a quiet time - at the height of the tourist season I imagine it could be rather busy. If you enjoy a variety of sea views - beaches and rocky coastlines - then the area is perfect. Also the hinterland is very varied with numerous pretty villages and excellent driving roads.

Potes is a busy town with lots of shops, restaurants and supermarkets. It sits at the edge of the beautiful Picos de Europas National Park. Places like the Deva Gorge, the San Glorio Pass and Fuente De are within easy driving distances from the town. We were there for 5 nights in late spring, which is a little quieter than summer and also a bit wetter. But most days were dry and the temperatures were perfect for walking and exploring. The drifts of wild daffodils in the meadows near the San Gloria Pass are stunningly beautiful and wild orchids are common. We recommend a trip on the Fuente De Cable Car which will take you up to the snowy mountains with fabulous views. But get to cable car station early to avoid long queues.

The town is full of character with cobbled areas and old historic buildings. The Gaudi designed house “El Capricho de Gaudí, is the highlight of a visit. There is a glorious view of the beach and coast from the Mirador of St Lucia. Also a couple of colourful macaw parrots noisily flying around the trees by one of the car parks is a bit of a surprise.

Borja, Lorrena, Fernando and Diego (barman - not his real name) were fantastic staff members at Hotel Olimpo, so friendly, welcoming, helpful and fun. Food was amazing, hotel was immaculate with beautiful views. Amazing location, lovely walk across the beach to Noja. Isla is lovely with quirkly little shops and nice walks. I chose Laredo as my family visited there a lot when I was young. It has a fantastic sandy beach. It has restasurants and Bars, we particularly liked the Pub Graucho for cocktails and El Tunel for seafood. It was out of season (March) so many closed places but that meant the beach was almost empty apart from dog walkers and occasional surfers/paddle boarders.
