Absolutely everything!!! The room was fabulous, both Paula & Daniel at reception were fantastic. The communication via bookings.com with this hotel was first class. We have been travelling in Spain for around 3 weeks with multiple hotels and this is the best experience so far! Fresh fruit in the room and a glass of sparkling on arrival. On site parking and a brilliant location. If you like seafood check out restaurant MARUCHO just 5 min walk and absolutely fantastic 😎

Pilar and Jesus were amazing hosts . “DETAIL “ is the secret to this accommodation. Everything is so detailed and it is a credit to the hosts. The property is located in a very quiet rural location with fabulous views. Peace and Tranquility in a beautiful renovated house, with some fabulous personal touches. The food is top class. I had a Steak and I don’t ever remember having one as nice or as well cooked to perfection. I would highly recommend this accommodation.

FAQs about hotels in Cantabria

The Colours of Nature

Bordered by the Bay of Biscay to the north, the small Spanish region of Cantabria is known for undulating, lush landscapes which sharply rise to sheer peaks in the south-western Picos de Europa mountain range.

The capital Santander is an important port and has a long promenade lining its sandy beach. The coastline to the west is packed with Cantabria hotels on the beach, some of which are in Comillas. This small town has a number of interesting buildings, including Gaudí’s Capricho. West in the Oyambre National Park is San Vincente de la Barquera. Take to the water for spectacular views of this village, its impressive bridge and the often snow-capped mountains beyond.

At Suances to the east, green cliffs plunge to the sea, while nearby medieval Santillana del Mar is the closest town to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Altamira cave paintings. Another medieval jewel is inland Potes whose cobbled streets and stone bridge over a stream are all in the shade of the Cantabrian mountains. In the east of the region, the rocks at Noja descend into crystal-clear waters, while Laredo’s curving bay ends in a hill that offers lovely views.

Whether you opt for one of the luxury hotels in Cantabria, an apartment or guest house, Booking.com has a great range of choice.

We absolutely loved our stay at Cabañas con Encanto! It totally met all of our expectations. The location is incredibly serene and peaceful, surrounded only by other cabins spaced out at a perfect distance, with the soothing sound of the river in the valley below. The view was simply breathtaking! From the moment we arrived, we felt warmly welcomed—the hosts had already heated the cabin for us, making it cozy and inviting. Everything we needed for a comfortable stay was provided: a well-equipped kitchen (including a moka pot, toaster, pans, and even a dishwasher), a reliable heating system, a hot shower, and a charming fireplace with firewood ready to use. We couldn’t have imagined a better place to spend two perfect days immersed in nature. Highly recommended—this place is truly magical!

Great hotel I arrived a few hours earlier than check in but my room was ready and I was welcomed in, the car park is a great size I was in a van and had no problem with space when parking, The Room was lovely and clean, The pool was a little chilly but very refreshing but to was the middle of Aug fantastic spa downstairs which was complimentary, Rear door straight out onto the beach, Even when leaving the hotel I was asked if I wanted to leave my vehicle in the car park if I was staying in the area for the day, Very happy indeed

A lovely hotel on the peninsula. The receptionist explained everything to us in beautiful English which was really appreciated. The hotel was spotless and away from the road. It had its own beach and pool. A perfect place to spend the last night of our holiday. We booked a superior room with terrace, sea view and half board. Really good value. The evening meal was delicious and breakfast had all you could want. We had the most amazing view of the bay. The hotel provides swimming towels.

The location for us was perfect as we like to be close to the ocean & the view from our balcony was great. We ate in the hotel restaurant upon arrival, the meal was of good quality & if our stay had been longer we would have ate there again. Thereafter we decided to try out the other restaurants in the area. The breakfast for ourselves was well worth the additional cost, there were ample choices to suit all.

We like the bungalow a lot. It was very cosy and all was good. The staff is very friendly, the bungalow was clean and has everything you need to cook. The two bedrooms had a window. Big frigde, small freezer. Little terrace at the bungalow with table and four chairs. The camping is located a small walk to the beach. The surroudings are beautiful! Surf beaches closeby!

Typical mobile home. The camp site is in a great spot, with direct entrance to a beautiful beach. The bar is great with nice food and very good drinks. There is also a very nice bar on the opposite side of the beach. All in all the camp site had everything we needed (also a grocery store) and is located in a nice area.

We loved Santander.

We loved Santander. We chose to fly into Santander rather than Bilbao, and we would absolutely make that choice again. It’s an elegant, very walkable city with the sea always close by and good public transportation for getting around. We stayed for two nights, which was ideal for us: an arrival evening, a full day to explore different parts of the city, and another evening to enjoy the restaurants and atmosphere. We took taxis to and from the airport, and while in Santander we mostly walked, used the bus, and took one taxi. It was a lovely and easy introduction to northern Spain and a city we were very glad we included in our trip.

We liked arriving and leaving.

We liked arriving and leaving. The bit in the middle was spoilt by the unreal sanitised environment. There was nothing of Spain in evidence. For example, pay 5 euros to have your photo taken with a donkey. Overpriced restaurants ( compared to other popular parts of Cantabria and Asturias)Are there any Spanish people left living in Santillana?

Great beach town with lots of water/ beach activities possible, or just sit on the beach between breakfast lunch and dinner! Plenty of bars, cafes and restaurants. Great for families and learning to surf. Water is clean and temperature perfect for swimming everyday. Lots of walking tracks and incredible scenery all around the city. We were without a car, but still managed to see a lot during our stay. If we lived closer ie not in Australia we would stay again!

We were there at a quiet time - at the height of the tourist season I imagine it could be rather busy. If you enjoy a variety of sea views - beaches and rocky coastlines - then the area is perfect. Also the hinterland is very varied with numerous pretty villages and excellent driving roads.

Borja, Lorrena, Fernando and Diego (barman - not his real name) were fantastic staff members at Hotel Olimpo, so friendly, welcoming, helpful and fun. Food was amazing, hotel was immaculate with beautiful views. Amazing location, lovely walk across the beach to Noja. Isla is lovely with quirkly little shops and nice walks. I stayed here with my husband and teenage son and all three of us had a fabulous time and look forward to returning. Was great to kick back and slow down from a fast paced life back home to a relaxing break in Isla.

I chose Laredo as my family visited there a lot when I was young. It has a fantastic sandy beach. It has restasurants and Bars, we particularly liked the Pub Graucho for cocktails and El Tunel for seafood. It was out of season (March) so many closed places but that meant the beach was almost empty apart from dog walkers and occasional surfers/paddle boarders.

Potes is a busy town with lots of shops, restaurants and supermarkets. It sits at the edge of the beautiful Picos de Europas National Park. Places like the Deva Gorge, the San Glorio Pass and Fuente De are within easy driving distances from the town. We were there for 5 nights in late spring, which is a little quieter than summer and also a bit wetter. But most days were dry and the temperatures were perfect for walking and exploring. The drifts of wild daffodils in the meadows near the San Gloria Pass are stunningly beautiful and wild orchids are common. We recommend a trip on the Fuente De Cable Car which will take you up to the snowy mountains with fabulous views. But get to cable car station early to avoid long queues.
