I depend heavily on reviews and so I read a lot of the reviews on here before deciding to go with this option. A kitchenette is also available in this studio type room equipped with all the essentials like a fridge, freezer, dishwasher, microwave, induction burner, oven, plates and pans. If you like to cook your own meals, then this location will be great for you. The bathroom was spotless and I am kind of a germophobe. Location was close to the bus stop and train station with restaurants nearby and a laundromat opposite it. We enjoyed our short stay and we will definitely stay again. Highly recommend.

Arrived super early but room was ready so let me check in. Off road parking within the grounds for motorbike and able to park at rear out of sight although it’s a quiet place, beautiful views, good breakfast and room was very spacious clean and comfortable. Staff were helpful. Nearest super market was around 11km away. Petrol station just up the road and there’s a restaurant around 1.5k or so up the road that does lunch and evening meals.

The Essence of Portugal

With fabulous beaches stretching from Caminha by the Spanish border to just south of Espinho, Portugal’s Norte region is known for beautiful scenery and historic cities.

Most Norte hotels on Booking.com are in its UNESCO World Heritage-listed capital Porto (or Oporto). Attractively spread over hills, it has wine cellars storing port from the Douro River Valley vineyards upstream.

Voted one of Portugal’s most liveable cities, Vila Real has the Mateus house overlooking a peaceful pond. Guimarães boasts a UNESCO World Heritage-listed historical centre and is known as the ‘birthplace of the Portugal’. Its stately castle and the Palace of the Dukes of Bragança are well worth a visit.

Bragança itself is by Montesinho Natural Park in north-east Norte, and a keep remains from its former castle. Chaves also has a castle keep and a Roman stone bridge, but unlike Braga, it no longer has remains of its Roman baths, erected over hot springs. Braga’s crowning glory is the Bom Jesus do Monte sanctuary, set high in hills, with a wonderful staircase and garden overlooking the city.

South of Galicia is the beautiful Peneda-Gerês area, Portugal’s only national park, and to its west is Viana do Castelo with its Norte beach hotels set on Blue Flag beaches. Also noteworthy is impressive Basilica de Santa Luzia, surveying the riverfront town below.

Our family lived on the new wings with interconnecting rooms, overlooking the vineyard. Since we went at winter the low season, travellers aren’t many, so the place was quiet and peaceful. Breakfast is great! Range of food selection is appropriate given the hotel size (about 40 rooms) and the quality is 5 star grade. The only place I can find a true type of croissant I used to eat but not those sticky one in the pastry shops. We had lunch at their pub serving light meals. Price is affordable at about 18 Euro per dish for pasta and meat sandwich respectively. Given the tranquility, the scenic maple tree under the winter sun, and the quality of food, I personally feel worth it. Dinner we ordered room service at about 30 Euro per dish as we wanted to rest at the cozy and comfortable rooms. Rooms are 5 star grade in terms of comfort level, though size isn’t big. Laying in the bed looking out to the green vineyard and hills, plus their complementary sweet Pacheca port wine is another unique and memorable experience. Staff are friendly and helpful too. Even there aren’t many guests, the hotel still put effort to decorate it for Christmas everywhere indoor and outdoor tastefully. Really appreciate!

Of course The Yeatman is tradionally Porto's finest hotel, certainly one of them, in most people's estimation. It remains a luxurious, charming and fascinating building and a superb place to stay or eat. The surroundings are elegant, classic and yet modern. The views across the river back to Porto itself are unbeatable. The multi-level design of the building set a precedent that has since been followed many times in Vila Nova de Gaia. All the restaurants are excellent. It's expensive, but relatively reasonable in shoulder season or off season. On this visit, I enjoyed as always seeing a bird of prey - a Harris Hawk, my cousin tells me based on photos - being used to scare off other creatures, and the lift interiors with their clever wall to wall panoramas of the Douro Valley and a wine cellar. Finally, it was sweet to be in a room named "Quinta do Crasto" after one of my favourite Douro wines!

A beautiful property for a holiday stay. There are plenty of scenic walking routes, beautiful beaches, and stunning coastal views along the shoreline. The area offers many restaurants and bars, making it a great place to relax in the evenings. The staff were friendly, and the prices were reasonable.

It was compact and easy to get around, it is historic and religious so lots of cathedrals and churches to visit. It was the festival of Sao Joao while we were there so there were parades through the streets which was interesting. There are plenty of bars and restaurants. The public transport is really good and a must visit is Bom Jesus do Monte which is a short bus journey away. If you like craft beer a visit to Letraria and Mal Amado are well worth it. We found all the people in Braga to be very friendly.

Excellent accommodation with 20 - minute walk into town...

Excellent accommodation with 20 - minute walk into town centre. Charming old town with variety of restaurants, bars and cafes. The hospital ship moored in the harbour had a fascinating history as well as very interesting to explore. The Saint Luzia Church on the hill was beautiful and provided some amazing views across the city, river, and the sandy beaches to the South. Friendly local people and some good quality restaurants.

Great location!

Great location! You can walk to the airport (around 8 minutes) and close by restaurants (5 minutes). Staff was very kind and helpful! We'll definitely go back next time we travel to/from Porto airport.

Guimaeres in old town a very busy and vibrant place with a distinct buzz. Some interesting sights and plenty to see for a couple if days. Lots of cafes and restaurants nearby with good food.we went on a recommendation and would advise others not to miss it.

It's a failing port town.

It's a failing port town. It's seen better days, lots of abandoned buildings, nothing much to see. The people were nice, there's a nice park, but it just feels like youre stuck in the outskirts.

You can e.g. rent a Pedallo at the Rio Caldo. In October there are not many shops open anymore but with a 20 Min. drive, you will find a supermarket. Also within an hour drive you'll find nice mountainside places worth to visit - trekking is definitely great in the area

A beautiful coastal town with lovely beaches, a relaxing atmosphere, and friendly people. Póvoa de Varzim is a charming seaside destination—perfect for a peaceful getaway. Clean beaches, great seafood, and stunning ocean views. Highly recommended! A wonderful mix of beach, culture, and local charm. We really enjoyed our visit. Beautiful sunsets, a vibrant promenade, and a welcoming atmosphere. We'll definitely come back!

Esposende is the perfect place from where to explore...

Esposende is the perfect place from where to explore northwestern Portugal. It's a quite town that offers all the necessary services. Many beaches nearby. Ofir beach south of the river is our favorite, but there are many beaches north of Esposende as well, with paths along the dunes and the pine forests. The local cuisine is wonderful, the sushi and pizza places were horrible.
