Staff went above and beyond to make our stay as enjoyable as possible!! The breakfast had everything one could ever want. The rooftop bar/restaurant and the lounge were great places to hang out at. Every detail was perfectly thought about by the hotel (e.g., having tea/coffee and snacks always available for guests; having filtered drinking water machines available on every floor; perfect black out blinds; etc.) This was our favourite experience at a hotel so far in the past three weeks of travelling in France. Well done, everyone!!

FAQs about hotels in Provence

The Picturesque Land of Lavender and Pastis

With lavender meadows and limestone soils covered with garrigue, the beautiful Provence smells of herbs, flowers and warm mistral winds. This vast French region spreads along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea from the wetlands of Camarque to the peaks of the Maritime Alps.

Famous for its cuisine, picturesque villages and the weather, Provence is one of France’s most popular holiday destinations. People come here to relax under the stunning blue skies and enjoy a slower life pace over a glass of pastis or local wine.

But don’t be mistaken, Provence is as much about the bustling cities as it is about its quiet countryside. Make sure you pay a visit the 2nd largest French city, Marseille, the forever glamorous Cannes or the popular resort of Nice. All of them offer plenty of sightseeing attractions, cultural events and fine dining venues.

For a breath of art and history, stop in Arles, a town full of Roman remains and Van Gogh’s famous artistic inspiration, or Avignon, best known for the stunning Gothic Palace of the Popes - the seat for Western Christianity during the 14th century.

From blue sea to rocky mountains, Provence has something for everyone’s taste. So does Booking.com: over 2000 properties in the region, from hotels with pools to cosy bed & breakfasts for your perfect Provence holiday.

Everything!!!! First thing I’d like to say is that, as we set off for the campsite our satnav said we will arrive at 1600hrs. Last check-in on the campsite was 1800hrs so all was good! Throughout the journey, traffic was heavy with everyone heading South for the Summer. I sent a message to the owner and he told me he would wait for me until 1900hrs. Then there was an accident and huge delays which meant we didn’t arrive at the site until 2230hrs. The husband and wife team were waiting for us and greeted us with open arms and a bottle of rosé wine to welcome us to their site. I have also read other reviews that have stated the site is on a main road and it’s noisy….. we genuinely forgot that we were close to the road. Occasionally we would hear a loud motorbike but didn’t feel loud to us at all. Maybe if you live somewhere quiet and rural you would not like the main road, it didn’t bother us at all. We got fresh bread delivered early morning, there is a pool table in reception. There is a little shop for essentials at reception. There is a kids play area and a gorgeous peaceful pool with no deep end so it feels safe for kids but also great for swimming lengths for fitness too. There is a free shuttle bus into town all day every day. We stayed in a lovely 3 double bedroom caravan which was perfect - very clean and all the utilities needed. The outdoor seating area on the caravan was huge; half sheltered and half not. I read a previous review about the caravans being close together and you can hear everything your neighbours are saying. This is not true. Unless you have very noisy neighbours. Yes the caravans are quite close but the outdoor tables and chairs are at opposite end to your neighbours so we didn’t hear any of our neighbours conversations. This isn’t a huge busy campsite; it is a small, personal campsite which is perfectly situated 10 minutes drive from Cassis and within short distance of some of the biggest cities on the south coast of France.

Our stay at Lily of the Valley was truly exceptional. The service was outstanding — the staff showed such genuine care and kindness, making us feel special throughout our stay. The restaurants were amazing; everything we tried was delicious, and breakfasts were a real pleasure. We loved the comfortable bed, the beautiful atmosphere, and the overall sense of harmony. We’ll definitely return to the restaurant even if we’re not staying at the hotel — everything we ordered was exceptional, and dinner felt magical. The team here is truly unique: such warmth, professionalism, and attention to detail are rare to find. We spent a wonderful weekend and can’t wait to come back!

The location is just beautiful with great views of the sea and beach on your doorstep. Great food across all parts of the hotel, breakfast, main restaurant for dinner and a choice of the pool bar or beach restaurant for lunch. The team are very welcoming and attentive with a great eye on personal service. Wonderful to also see the hotel manager Stephenie meeting and greeting everyone on a daily basis across the day. The rooms and terrace make the most of the location and full markers for a comfortable, spacious bed with quality linen too.

Important historical town with very impressive papal palace, and lots of lovely pedestrian stone paved streets to wander around window shopping and drinking coffee in the tiny squares. Also a great base from which to explore the rest of Provence. There were of day trip and half day trip opportunities to Arles, the villages, the vineyards, the Roman ruins in Nime and Orange and Pont du Gard and day trips down to the Camargue as well. Good train and bus network so we we could leave our car and explore .

Hôtel Sainte Christophe is an exceptional hotel in an excellent position for walking around Aix en Provence. All the staff are professional, knowledgeable and very personable. The main contact we had was with Maouri from reception and she made our stay such a great experience. She is a great ambassador for the hotel. We also ate at the Leopold Restaurant and the food and service were wonderful. I can’t speak highly enough of the hotel. I will certainly return there on my next visit to Aix en Provence.

Get a ticket to enter 4 attractions for €15, we got ours at the Roman museum. But this should be available at the other historical sites or tourist office. There is also on a ticket for 6 venues. Go to the Roman museum. If you are there on a Saturday check the market on Boulevard des Lices and Boulevard Émile-Combes, features local food, textiles, and crafts, with a smaller version on Wednesday. Have dinner in Jardin Des Arts, sit in the garden, or dinner in Gaudina Alres.

We love this little town, its people, its culture, its shopping, its restaurants and the activities it offers in Camargue, such as museums visitis, bird watching, horse back riding, cycling, and swimming in the sea. Tip: avoid the week prior to the Gypsies celebration of Santa Sara. While most Gypsies are just fine visitors, some cause troubles. Some shops close. Luckily, we departed three days prior to the feast, when some shops were already closed and robberies started to happen.

I found it hard to choose a town in Provence as there are a lot and they all sound beautiful. St Remy is mid sized and has an abundance of restaurants, shops, cafes etc. it also has 2 larger supermarkets very close by and a small one in town. The market on Wednesday is excellent and there is a small produce one on Saturday. Its a very pretty place with friendly locals and loads of charm. We had 2 excellent meals at Aux Envies and Les Cocottes.
