- From $47.79 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.5Very Good - What previous guests thought, 876 reviewsthis place has a very comfortable, at home feel. it’s a little confusing to get to the first time around but once you’ve gone once, it’s a quick walk from “downtown” through little warrens and alleyways with lots to see and great coffee along the way. There’s a very clean community kitchen and a shared rooftop terrace right in the lake. i had the tiny economy room with the bunk beds which I called my little monks quarters, but it was charming, clean and comfortable at a budget rate in a hotel that does not feel “budget.”Guest review byMollyMexico

We enjoyed San Pedro. it was picturesque with the beautiful lake and mountains. It was walkable, also easy to get a TukTuk. If you walk up the hill into the village, you get past the tourist streets and see local life. There are plenty of restaurants and shops. Many of the restaurants had seating that looked out over the lake. The souvenir market sellers are not pushy. We went to a Mayan museum, Tzunun' Ya'. It was informative about the formation of the lake and the traditional life of the Mayan people. We didn't see sandy beach areas to throw out a blanket and sit by the lake.Guest review bySusanUnited States - 10.0

We were a group of six over 55's off on a great adventure. San Juan la laguna gave us so many things to do and see. we hired a local guide to talk to us about the spectacular murals and artist in town. we hiked the mirador. toured a honey farm. enjoyed serval meals. One that stands out was the Cafe Alma De Colores. it promotes social inclusion of people with disabilities. they also have a wonderful gift shop, with handcrafted items that support this population. visiting the street of sombras and the steert of umberellas. Lovely community . friendly warm and welcoming.Guest review bySherlock - 10.0

The town is up a steep hill so be prepared for some exercise or take a tuk tuk! Gorgeous views! Take a cooking class there like we did! Laid back town, not a lot to do or many restaurants, but a more authentic town that supports its Mayan locals with local wares and cuisines.Guest review byStaceyUnited States - 8.0
The market is fabulous for fibery things.
The market is fabulous for fibery things. Backstrap looms, cotton weaving yarn, and finished yardage and garments. NOT touristy, hard to find coffee before ten a.m., and very little English-speaking. It's a noisy and bustling center for locals (rural Mayans). The shops and the market are a bonanza if you are a fiber tourist. If you're looking for an idyllic green and quiet oasis on the lake, you need to look to the outskirts of town, or hop on a ferry to one the many smaller, more tourist oriented communitiesGuest review byLynUnited States - 10.0

Perfect location for a peaceful stay at Atitlan Lake. You can take the public boat service if you want to take a walk, food and bars. If you really want to rest, far from crowdy tourist and noise, then Tzununa for sure.Guest review byJUANGuatemala - 10.0

EquiRoast on 1A Calle close to the water opens not only at about 6:30/7 am but also has Caleb , the owner , who will offer a mind boggling amount of ways to make your coffee and also has nice , bitter DARK ROAST coffee ! Do not miss it !! It is important to know that the tuktuks only take you to the next town where you have to change to get to the next and then change tuktuk there againGuest review byUlfUnited States - 8.0

Such a cute town, I wish I had more time to explore because some places were closed on the weekends. It's very close to the party life in San Pedro but much more chill so you can go back to sleep and hang in peace, which I preferred.Guest review byBEUnited States - 10.0

A lovely little town with a wonderful cooperative, CECAP, that has a great store with woven items and a delicious café up on the roof with a fantastic view. Don't miss the 16th century church in the plaza and there are some great murals around the town.Guest review byWhitneyCanada - 10.0

As a former coffee buyer, I've been fortunate enough to experience a wide range of beautiful countries throughout the world, and Guatemala is my absolute favorite. I wanted to take my wife to see this beautiful country for the first time on our 25th anniversary, and fortunately, we landed upon El Picnic! It seems evident to me that this is absolutely the best place to stay in Atitlan. Because the temperatures are consistently cool in the evenings year round with 13-17C (57-62F) at night, the glamping experience of sleeping outside is a no-brainer! The places to stay at El Picnic are beautifully elegant and very impressive architecturally. One of the things I often worry about with AirBnb's and glamping resorts is whether or not they have good bedding and mattresses; no concern with this place, we had a great bed, it was super comfortable with a very charming bathroom as well. You would be hard pressed to wake up to a better view anywhere else in the world. View and comfort aside, Jochen and Gaby are excellent hosts. Gaby was very helpful in arranging transport and providing useful tips in visiting surrounding areas; Jochen is an exceptional chef, mixologist and baker. I can go on and on about the outstanding cuisine, coffee, rum cocktails and fresh baked bread with every meal! Suffice to say, we will be coming back next year. The guests were a pleasure to meet and get to know as well, places like this always seem to attract interesting and fun people. El Picnic has an awesome culture, it's conviviality at its finest!Guest review byAnthonyUnited States - 10.0

San Pedro La Laguna was a fun town to walk around. There are many Spanish schools there and many young tourists. Lots of fun and convenient bars and restaurants. The view of the lake and volcano is stunning.Guest review byMary S.Canada
