Great room, comfortable, nicely designed, with everything one needs. Breakfast is excellent, including delicious natural juices and marmalades made from local fruits, and the restaurant is really cool. The hotel is very good located, 10 minutes from the train station. All the staff speak English very well and are very kind and friendly. They provide good information and city details. The decoration with otters is very fun. The room is not very big and some facilities may need a renovation, but for one person and one night it is fine. You can take a free bicycle that it's very convenient to reach the castle and the garden. Although there is no breakfast, they offer you some pastries and nikuman that are very good. The 24-hour free drink service is also very good. The wifi connection was quite good.

We had an excellent stay at the Ivy Square. The staff was very helpful, recommending an amazing local restaurant for dinner. Our room was quiet and comfortable with enough space for our many pieces of luggage. The location was perfect - at the edge of the historical center. And, parking was available for our rental car. It's very good value for money and higy recommended.

I had a great stay at S Plus Hotel Hiroshima.

I had a great stay at S Plus Hotel Hiroshima. The hotel is very nice and located in a convenient area, making it easy to get around the city. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, with all the necessary facilities for a pleasant stay. Okayama is a quieter town than other Japanese cities.

Okayama is a quieter town than other Japanese cities. Visited willow canal at Kurashiki by train, half an hour away. Also took the street car ( tram) to Koraken gardens. As our visit was January not many flowers out, but a big garden to walk around.

Only spent one day at the end of our trip which was enough...

Only spent one day at the end of our trip which was enough to basically shop and wander the historical area which I think is the main attraction anyway. Beautiful, scenic, clean, historic. And we loved Yoshii Ryokan in the heart of it all. Definitely worth a visit.

We found Matsue very walkable, the people were so friendly, and the city was a peaceful change from the larger cities. We also found a wonderful daytrip from there--Yuushien Garden was an inspiring spot, and the bus trip there and back was so interesting. We visited in early October, and also got to enjoy the Matsue Water Lantern Festival.

Tottori is the Sand Museum (closes January 5, the sculptors, real world wide artists) come in, the Museum opens for Japanese Golden week. We have been going there every year, since 2013. Always staying at the APA hotel, Ekimai.

Better to stay in a hotel than in the Guest House.

Better to stay in a hotel than in the Guest House. There is much to see on the island and it is very popular with locals. The tram takes you right there from the Hiroshima Station. A wonderful opportunity to buy local arts and crafts. The Miyajima Base Restuarant near the guest house had a totally gluten-free menu so all the deep fried food could be enjoyed by everyone. The rope-way experience in the snow was something exceptional.

Silent small town, just next to the station you have castle, not that frequently operating local trains from this station. To reach Hiroshima I had to take a bus and could not find local trains. Shinkansen is available, so those who dont worry about Shinkansen prices then it is super easy.

The town itself is nice but not too special. Plenty of good places to eat and many shops, but the main attraction is the startof the Shimanami Kaido bike route of course, it is gorgeous and highly recommended!

Lovely and underated city.

Lovely and underated city. If you go to Japan, you should make it a must. Try the Hiroshima Okonomiyaki, go to the Museum, walk in Hondori, enjoy the Castle and the park around it. Enjoy its people and everything it has to offer.

It isn’t a typical tourist destination from my understanding...

It isn’t a typical tourist destination from my understanding but the gardens by night are absolutely stunning. The casual is also beautiful and I’m sad to have missed the pottery class. Food and bars also exceptional - everybody is particularly friendly, and perhaps less used to accommodating tourists. Coffee: Empire coffee roasters. Friendly service and outstanding coffee. Food: Hidaya Yanigamachi. Grill your own delicious meat. Drink: ichigin. Super friendly and will involve you in conversations even if you don’t speak Japanese.
