Uncovering Fukui
Fukui is a hidden gem. In comparison to other places in Japan, the English accessibility is fairly low. Train conveniences vary and the feeling is more "country side" or inaka. However, I really enjoyed my trip. There were dinosaur scientists everywhere. All the main attractions for Fukui were well-labeled and easily accessible. I highly recommend the dinosaur museum! You can get a package deal at the private train station that covers train fare, community bus fare, and entrance admission. Bonus, you're not fiddling around with change. Fukui is like the dinosaurs it"s been uncovering lately. Mediocre on the outside, but it doesn't take much digging to uncover something really cool and worth your time. The mural outside Fukui station is worth a visit alone.

Pleasant stopover
Fukui is small city. It is interesting just to walk around and see people going about their daily life. I would recommend trying local buckwheat soba. Really delicious. I came during Sakura season so it was pleasant to walk along the river with the blossoms and everyone out in the evening. For travelers, it is a transit point for going to other areas like Eiheiji or Echizen and Ichijodani. I did not go to the garden but understand it is lovely.

Fukui is a second tier city in Japan but it still has a lot of sightseeing spots which is worthwhile to pay a visit. You can still enjoy a lot of good and quality food there but it is not a place for those who loves shopping.

Not recommend for budget travel and a bonus if you have a car as the village shuts down at about 4:00 PM. 20 minute drive into Fukui and there’s a lot of options for food. Breakfast at the hotel is Japanese style. It’s amazing if you like that kind of thing. I do. Very clean.

Very clean and easy to access from Fukui Station. The breakfast had a lot of options with both Western style and Japanese options. The room was large and had extra storage and desk space. The refrigerator was big and didn’t freeze my items. There was no issue asking for an extra pillow.

One of the few hotels in Sabae if you are attending an event at Fukui Sun Dome. (It's still about 20 mins walk from the hotel to the dome though.) Hotel is clean enough, has a large shared bath, and plenty of self-served amenities.
