Also their generosity and kindness were amazing despite me being a little lost in my Japanese understanding. Stay was comfortable with a great view of the mountains greeting you as you woke up. The hotel was very new and staff were warm and friendly. Central location to food, shopping and walk to castle. Fortunate to have the onsen to ourselves for 30 minutes even though hotel was quite full over the golden week. Best touch was lounge had ice cream, they served free udon noodles at supper, and breakfast was a good spread.

The Breakfast was Exceptional, make sure you book it at the Reception Desk when you check in. The Staff were very nice and able, they accommodated my lack of Japanese Language. There's an Open Bar in the Evening which I created a few Vodka Creme Coffee Drinks from — It closes at 9pm. It was amicable. The room was of a Traditional Japanese style, you can request extra Futons if you need. Pillow Selection is interesting, an available multitude. There are extra services available in the Lower Floors, something akin to a Spa, I'll have to go back to see it.

Everything was perfection - starting from my arrival, public bathhouse experience, the cozy room, delicious dinner and breakfast and very kind staff members. The view of Mt. Aso from the third floor lookout and the footbath area is impeccable. Also, much special thanks to Mr. Isao Tsugayasu, who was extremely helpful and kind to us throughout the stay! He truly made our experience at Yumeshizuku unforgettable. Thank you so much again for your kindness and hospitality. I look forward to my next stay at Yumeshizuku in the nearest future.

Instead she called the rental place and arranged that for us, return our Yukata the next morning when we checked out. Kumamoto has a relaxed and laid back feel with lots to see and do. We enjoyed walks along the river and went as far south as Lake Ezuko. The tram was inexpensive and very easy to negotiate. Kumamoto is also a convenient home base for visiting areas outside of the city.

I didn't expect much from Kumamoto on my first visit, but I was surprised to find it a lively, vibrant city with multicultural influences, and trendy neighborhoods packed with boutiques and restaurants that rival anything that Tokyo offers without the suffocating crowds. The castle is an obvious draw and was busy, though not too crowded when we visited in early April, with tourists from many countries in evidence. Make time to head across the street from the castle to Kumamoto City Hall and go up to the free viewing lobby on the 14th floor for a great view of the castle grounds. Then get out and wander. My family and I were impressed by the lively shotengai and the interesting mix of boutiques, bars and restaurants sprawling across downtown Kumamoto. We've all lived in Tokyo and thought that Kumamoto's downtown neighborhoods seem on par with those in Tokyo's Nakameguro, Jiyugaoka, and the like. Wish that we'd scheduled more time here and less in Kagoshima.

Kumamoto is a bit of a sleepy town in Kyushu, the castle was severely damaged in the 2016 earthquake and is now a mediocre experience, Suizenji gardens are small but beautiful, but one day in the city is enough in my opinion.
