A beautiful luxurious property with gorgeous sunset. Food was amazing and service too. Only an hour from the airport. Beach very quiet but the under current is very strong so you can’t swim in the sea. There is a large swimming pool to relax in though.

We had such a lovely stay at Hibiscus Beach Hotel & Villas! 🌴✨ We spent a night here and honestly enjoyed every moment of it. The staff was so friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout our stay. The service was really good, and their warm hospitality made us feel comfortable from the moment we arrived. And the food was definitely one of our favourite parts! 😍 Everything we tried was really tasty and matched our preferences perfectly. We genuinely enjoyed our meals and had a great overall experience. It was a short stay, but a really memorable one. Location was spectacular and had the chance of Kayaking in the Bolgoda lake which was an amazing experience. The staff was very friendly and attentive to our requirement. Food was delicious and their flexibility on preparing and delivering food on time as per our preference is also appreciative. Room was very spacious with all necessary furnitures and bathroom facilities. I highly recommend to anyone who is looking for relaxing getaway and hope to go there again in the future as well.

From the moment we arrived at Tangerine Beach Hotel, we knew we had found a special place. The warm welcome at check-in immediately set the tone staff were genuinely friendly, helpful, and attentive to every detail. Our room was comfortable, clean, and tastefully decorated, with lovely views and a sense of calm that made it easy to relax. Housekeeping did an excellent job keeping everything neat and fresh every day. The facilities, especially the pool and garden, are beautifully maintained; walking through the lush grounds to the beach felt like stepping into a private tropical retreat. A special highlight was the complimentary high tea they arranged for us athoughtful gesture that made our afternoon extra special. The tea service was beautifully presented with a great selection of treats and a perfect view of the gardens and ocean.

Poor staff service during our visit while it was raining Unfortunately, they did not provide any umbrellas, and the staff did not seem concerned about the situation. However, the property is in a fantastic location, and I would still recommend it for a visit. It’s worth noting that the Sri Lankan economy has been affected by political issues, which had a significant impact on the tourism industry. Many employees currently working in this sector are relatively new, which may explain some of the service shortcomings we experienced.

Travelers who plan to visit the southern region can choose Kalutara as a destination for their first day, as it is only about two to three hours from the airport. The town of Kalutara is very busy and stretched out along a busy road, quite a distance from the hotel. We didn’t visit as we had come to relax at the hotel after a couple of days sightseeing in Colombo and before heading to the much nicer beaches further south.

The breakfast buffet was very good and the quality of treatments at the spa did not disapoint. However, we were disappointed with the general professionalism of the staff considering it is a 5 star resort. The staff was kind and friendly but just not up to the standard one would expect of a 5 star hotel. Here are a few examples: at the pool we ordered some food and when we were going to sign for the bill, the waiter said they had made a mistake and charged us for a dish that was 0.50 USD more than what we had ordered. He asked us if we didn't mind paying the extra amount so that they didn't need to redo the bill. Of course we didn't mind as its such a small difference (so we accepted) but out of principle, if a mistake is made by the staff, they should know to just fix the error rather than asking the guest to make up for their mistake (however small). We were also disappointed at dinner that the two a la carte restaurants were only open on alternate nights as it meant we couldn't get a table until 9 pm which is late with kids. Also the first wines we tried to order were out of stock. Finally on the second night at the Italian, three of the dishes we chose were unavailable. This is understandable as it is end of season, but again is not expected at a 5 star hotel. That said, the quality of the food at the Italian was really very good. As for the rooms, although comfortable, the extra maintenance effort is lacking. The hot and cold water in the shower was very difficult to control; the light in the small magnifying mirror in the bathroom was not working and the main telephone in the room did not work. Lastly, we visited the spa and although the overall experience was very good and the therapists were experienced, it was disappointing to have to wait over half an hour (after our scheduled appointment time) for our treatments. Overall, this felt more of a 3-4 star hotel than 5 star.
