- From $124 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.4Very Good - What previous guests thought, 165 reviewsBeautiful location on the beach. Individual bamboo huts and air con rooms . Tried both and each has its benefits. Huts are quite open and attract jungle visitors as expected but all part of the experience, just be sure to take precautions against mosi’s. Beds were very comfortable and both huts and rooms have a comfy outdoor seating area. Food was good (buffet style) but maybe an occasional BBQ would have added some variety. Staff are very attentive and reception staff were helpful. Easy to get a Tuk-Tuk just outside the main gate. A few restaurants within walking distance. Sun beds were a bit short on a couple of days. There is an overall chilled vibe which is extremely relaxing. Would recommend.Guest review byGillianUnited Kingdom
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.2Very Good - What previous guests thought, 461 reviewsEverything about this place was exceptional. Located right in front of the beach, the views were immaculate. The staff was incredibly friendly and we were very well taken care of. They gave us a lovely welcome drink and a beautiful flower for me! The rooms itself were so big and it was very rustic yet so comfortable! We ordered room service and let me tell you, the chocolate mousse is a must have! The breakfast next morning was a set menu but quite a spread and we enjoyed that as well! Thanks for a wonderful stay! Next time we'd definitely come for longer.Guest review byEden FernandesOman
- From $57.92 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.1Very Good - What previous guests thought, 205 reviewsWe loved our stay at Lakraj. The location is wonderful, easy walks to restaurants and The doctor's house. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Our first room didn't have a TV so we were easily moved to a new room with wonderful sea and pool views 😀 We hired a scooter right across the road and they organized a driver for us for a safari tour at Udawalwe safari about an hour and half drive. The hotel pool was awesome, a natural sea pool. We saw turtles swimming right outside as well. All in all a wonderful experienceGuest review bySuebenneAustralia
- From $105.40 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.9Excellent - What previous guests thought, 739 reviewsDots Bay House is more than a hostel. I really liked that my dorm bed was basically in its own private mini-suite. I could have easily spent an entire month here, as it's steps away from the beach and has a coworking space and yoga studio. The food was spectacular! I had the best butter paneer of my life, and I was surprised to have such a good pizza in Sri Lanka. The staff was kind and helpful, always checking to make sure my needs were met.Guest review byStefanieUnited States
- From $55 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.1Very Good - What previous guests thought, 399 reviewsThe host family was great, they really take care of you. It was like a mini resort: right on the beach, removed from the street noise, a sweet little bar and outdoor seating area for eating, sun beds, but not large and impersonal.... And the stretch of beach is wide and long with little commercialization. Quite perfect. Room was spacious and bed comfortable enough. And very few people on beach.Guest review byRogerUnited States

The host family is very welcoming and friendly, and they lent us snorkel gear to swim near the turtles! We really enjoyed our stay.Guest review byHeidiUnited States

Mirissa is a popular tourist destination, and one where...
Mirissa is a popular tourist destination, and one where tourism income trumps everything else - usually at the expense of the environment. So, if you’re looking for an idyllic escape to a pristine, tropical paradise, you’ll need to lower your expectations quite a bit. Unfortunately, the businesses lining the beachfront have been allowed to attempt to artificially hold back the sea, by building awful sea walls, sandbagging, etc. This has resulted in far less beach than there would naturally be. The other inescapable truth is that it’s quite polluted - mainly with discarded plastics (bottles, drinking straws, bags, etc.) and other rubbish. It really is heartbreaking to see, and it’s everywhere. Picking up a few bags of it everyday on my walks didn’t even make a dent! (This problem isn’t limited to Mirissa, by the way. It’s everywhere in Sri Lanka. Substantial regulatory change and investment in education are needed - now!) As a visitor, do your part and at least set a good example by not discarding your rubbish. On the plus side, the people are very friendly and welcoming, and there are quite a few great places to eat and enjoy a cold drink. I found the better restaurants on the main road rather than the beach. There are also plenty of lovely, small, family-run restaurants throughout the back streets that are worth seeking out.Guest review byGavinAustralia - 10.0

Matara, was a good place for me.I stayed at La Polena, for 12 nights. The breakfast was excellent and the lady that made it changed the sheets and cleaned my room twice.I do think that they could give visitors a bottle of water daily. Also a jug to make a cup of tea in each room.Very little money is spend on maintaining the place. Also a sign with numbers for hiring Tuk-Tuk drivers would help. The manager is nice ,but a little slow in offering advice. Island rsetuarant past the Doctors had teh best food.I also needed more veg.So bought carrots, tomatoes and cucumber for myself. Also egg, roll in town. Restaurants at the beach are a rip off.10% added for tax. This is nonsense.Tuk driver from the Railway station to hotel.600 rup The one Hotel to Trainstation 800 the train from Matara.4 -5 hours 600rph.?Guest review byMalcolmNew Zealand - 10.0

Talalla beach is clean and not crowded like many on the South coast of Sri Lanka. Relax all day under the sun and take a dip in to the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. Not really a surfing beach but the right hand end in front of Talalla Retreat is safe for swimming. Friendly locals and a small supermarket nearby. Ate at all the local restaurants - they were all excellent, especially Manju Cinnamon Hut.Guest review byRayNew Zealand - 10.0

I spent one night at a Coastal Villa in Mirissa, and it was one of my best experiences in Sri Lanka. The villa is situated in a calm and quiet area, yet it is within walking distance to both the town and the beach. The rooms are spacious, and the beds were clean and comfortable. The air conditioner functioned well during the extremely hot weather, and the staff were very helpful. Initially, we did not book the room with a meal included, but the staff were accommodating and provided a variety of delicious Sri Lankan dishes on short notice. I decided to extend my stay, and the villa staff easily fulfilled my request. I recommend Coastal Villa to anyone seeking a place to stay in Mirissa.Guest review byNick - 10.0
