The new room was very spacious and super convenient; I especially liked the big desk I could use for some computer work. For me as a surfer it was also great to have a little backyard/garden area so I could hang up my wetsuits. The kitchenette was well equipped and spacious as well. Laundry facilities are available for guests to use 24/7 free of charge; you can watch movies à gogo with the Sky channels, and the wifi is fast and reliable. Gisborne is a very pleasant and picturesque City.
Gisborne is a very pleasant and picturesque City. Unfortunately the whole sweep of the Poverty Bay Beaches has been spoilt by recent adverse Weather Storms leaving debris on the once beautiful bathing areas. Sightseeing from the Kaiti Lookout is always a great view, and the Local Council has done a lot of work clearing the Beaches, with work still to do, I imagine. The hosts were incredibly busy, but took time to arrange another room for us. This is a very old hotel, with all the maintenance issues that you can expect. There is no meals service, so guests need to bring there own food and drink or get some from the very small village store. The first city in the world 🌎 to see the sunrise and has beautiful beaches to swim.This city is family orientated and the lifestyle here is relaxed mode. The people here enjoy the hunting and diving/ fishing experience (kai gathering).Also alot of agricultural/ horticulture revolves here as well. There is also a lot of farming sheep & cattle here on the east coast and definitely comes with a beautiful coastline to drive and enjoy 💯👌 Highway 35... Te Puia has nothing to offer. The only shop in town was closed. The hotel bar was closed, dining room and lounge were closed. No food or drink on offer. The hot springs The town is known for consisted of one tepid pool behind the hotel which was filthy and not even hot. All in all very disappointing stay. The hotel rooms were clean and comfortable, no issue there. And the bathrooms were clean and functional. Not a lot to do in Hicks Bay itself, walk to old wharf is interesting. In the area there is the East Cape Lighthouse (lots of steps but worth it), most easterly point of New Zealand. This was more hostel like accommodation than hotel. Small room but clean & tidy apart from very dirty windows -a good clean & repaint required. Bathroom refurbished & great shower but once again windows the same as bedroom. Advertised pools were one pool which unfortunately was so extremely hot you could not get in !
