The strip of sand is overlooked by a busy road and shops. Very little shelter from the sun and on-shore winds whip up waves and churn the water to a very unappealing colour. Plenty of bars and places to eat locally - but very few truly "Thai" owned/run. LOTS of Indian restaurants! Stay away from the main town part if you want some quiet. It's over commercialized, and touristy. The resorts are overpriced for their services and amenities. However we loved Long Beach. It was a beautiful beach. If you like tea, I recommend you bring it from home. It's very hard to find good black tea in Thailand. During off season (July) the Island is reasonably quiet, many places are actually closed. Still, we had a great time. We had picked the right accommodation and were lucky with the weather, Still, it was often very windy with one powerful storm, which made the beaches useless: high bumper waves with rocks under the surf. Luckily, we had a great pool at our place. Things to do: Great local food everywhere and very affordable. It is useful to note that there are multiple long boats and piers to access Railay. The safest route is to the east beach from Ao Nammao pier where you can safely park a hire car for a reasonable cost. If you don’t have your own transport, there are various options such as taxis. There were many sightseeing opportunities I was unable to access due to my Muay Thai training event. If I return, I will pursue these options. The beach was near countless stores and restaurants.
