Such a beautiful northern city within easy reach of the mountains, full of history, art and heritage. Fabulous places to eat and drink on every street. Brilliant markets with endless food options and great live music. Plenty of places to get a Thai massage, very reasonably priced. It's easy to fly to Chiang Mai, but why not take the train as we did! - a stunning scenic journey from Bangkok (10 hours but it went by quickly!) ... Chiang Mai is also a safe city with a very low crime rate. We felt safe walking the streets, whatever time of day or night. Koh Tao is still one of the few raw escapes in Thailand in my opinion, its divers and back packers heaven. However as a father with 2 kids in my forties i absolutely loved it. If you step away from the busy areas and off the beaten track you can find amazing coves and hiden gems still. The tourism all over the world has killed so much of our wildlife and reefs. If you want the beach and trips from the beach to the islands do not recommend you go this time of the year. As three single travellers there were very few bars, lots of restaurants that sold alcohol but no bars you could sit at and have a chat only found four and three of those were a good 30min walk from the centre. Ao Nang seems to have changed a lot over the years and has lost a lot of it's character as it is now catering more for families, which is not a all bad if that is what you are looking for but comparing it with Hua Hin, or Koh Samui, it just doesn't.Guest review byDennisAustralia - 10.0
