Lots to like. Clean, comfortable. We put our family of 7 in a room that sleeps 8. Shared bathroom was super clean with private stalls and toilets. They also had a dog hotel for around $30 a night for the pooch. Had a fully stocked kitchen that we did not use but looked amazing.

This hotel provided a fantastic overall experience. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel provides parking and free bikes for guests. The hotel is quite near the coastal bike path and a lively night market. Our room had a view of the gorgeous misty mountains. The room was clean and comfortable, with all the expected amenities. The shower and great temperature and pressure. There are lots of options at the included breakfast--it is mostly an Asian style breakfast buffet--but some options for Westerners.

    Sleepy scenic town with some really cool cafes and restaurants. Airy , non crowded night market with lots of games and options for food. Even without Taroko fully open after the earthquake , Hualien is a great stop over for the scenic East Coast of Taiwan.

    It's a tiny town with fewer restaurants to choose from...

    It's a tiny town with fewer restaurants to choose from comparing to HuaLiang which is 18KM south of XinCheng. But, this town is also 18 KM closer to Taroko National Park. I highly recommend "Memories Homestay" for your overnight accommodation. It has the best CP value.

    This is my second visit to Hualien City.

    This is my second visit to Hualien City. It was good to get to know the area better. Although I spent the majority of my time at Dong Awa University, I was able to visit the Stone Museum and the Slow Food centre.

    Our interest was in travelling up the Taroko Gorge.

    Our interest was in travelling up the Taroko Gorge. Although spectacular, the access limitations imposed since the last major earthquake made our travel almost a non-event. Be aware, the visitor centre is closed, 2nd Monday each month, grrr.
