Everything about this resort is exceptional --the views, the facilities, the staff.

Located in the São Miguel Island of the Azores archipelago, the Caloura Hotel Resort is inserted on a protected natural area and features direct access to the sea and natural volcanic pools. There is also a swimming pool surrounded by sun loungers. Fantastic hotel. It had a very tropical/exotic location vibe. Everything is clean and well maintained. They thought about sustainability - there is a reusable glass bottle in the room, shampoo and soap are in dispensers on the bathroom wall. We really enjoyed our stay. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The location is just beautiful.

Among the facilities at this property are room service and a 24-hour front desk, along with free WiFi throughout the property. Free private parking is available and the resort also offers bike hire for guests who want to explore the surrounding area. This place is a rare find & absolutely gorgeous: Beautifully designed suites, pool and dining area, all with stunning views of the ocean and sloping vineyard, delicious breakfast with fresh local bread, cheese, fruit, etc. The Refúgio is run by a lovely family, who attended to all our needs with kindness and care (including our after-midnight arrival). We ordered dinner in the morning for that night and it was the best we’d had during our time on the islands: cooked with local ingredients and vegetables freshly harvested from their garden! The pool is clean and inviting, the water a pleasant temperature. Many hiking trails are easily reachable by foot, including the ‘coast to coast’ and ‘ten volcano hike’. The intimate size (four suites and two chalets) creates a true retreat feel. What a luxury! This place is a gem. We would return here in a heartbeat!

Leisure facilities include a large fresh-water outdoor pool. The staff was exceptionally helpful including organizing a rental car delivered to the hotel. The room was spacious and comfortable.
