As noted, we chose the remote location with a pool as a retreat, however this turned out not quite as we had hoped. All during the hot summer days, the swimming pool was infested with hundreds of thirsty wasps. The owners did make some attempts to control this after we complained, however it was more like closing the door after the horse had bolted, so the only time we were managed to enjoy the pool and the area around it was after 18:00 when it became shaded by the mountain, and the wasps were less active. This severely limited the amount of time we had hoped to spend just relaxing by the pool; besides we were all stung at least once! We investigated this, and with planning BEFORE the swimming season the number of wasps can be greatly limited. BUT this requires foresight, and we are most disappointed that we suffered because no care was taken in this regard. Steps were taken, but they were ineffectual. Also, a little update to the kitchen might enhance the overall experience for upcoming visitors.

We spent 10 days at the property, so we were able to get a good perspective. The secluded nature of the location offered a peaceful and private experience – it felt like we almost had the entire place to ourselves. We especially chose it because we wanted a true retreat. The views are magnificent, and you can hear the bleating of the goats browsing in the beautiful Cypriot brush all around. The mountain rises majestically behind the property and casts a shadow in the early evening, which was a relief in the burning summer heat. The air conditioning in the room worked efficiently, we would have been lost without it. The studio was comfortable and appointed in a ‘rustic’ design style – easily seen in the description photos. There is a terrace, which is nice for relaxing when it is shaded, and all the basic equipment is provided in the kitchen. It is about 10 minutes’ drive to the Krousonas, the local village on a very winding but beautiful drive, if you need basic supplies. Our host, Eleni, and her husband were genuinely hospitable, and communication in English was a breeze.

Arrived late in the evening on a motorcycle in pouring rain and wet to the bone, but the place and the owner made us immediately feel comfy. One advice: dont try to follow directions from Google maps. When you arrive at Krousonnas, just follow the green signs to the guesthouse.

There was a broken shower that we were informed would be repaired but wasn't. Nonetheless, this was a minor inconvenience, to the extent that I did not bother to remind about it either

Beautiful, big and comfortable room with a lovely balcony with great panoramic views on the mountains and the sea in the distance. Superb breakfast! Lovely pool with great views again. Eleni is a lovely and friendly person and a wonderful host. A pity that the restaurant was closed due to works but there is the possibility to eat freshly cooked local food (by Eleni) on your own balcony. 😊 If not, there are some good options in the villages around, like Krusoonas or Loutrakia It was a pleasure staying at Aetovigla!

Nothing! but don’t trust Google Maps when navigating the area - it lies.

Truly stunning views, really comfortable self-catering accommodation with the option of having some affordable, generous and delicious meals prepared by the owner, Eleni, including great home grown/made produce. We had a wonderful time enjoying the peace and quiet, and the mountain breezes were a welcome respite after the heat in the city.

Absolutely nothing

From the moment we arrived to the day we left, Eleni was a great host, friendly, very helpful and kind. Her cooking is fantastic, the best stuffed wine leaves we have ever tasted! And her husband was very kind to help us when our car got into some serious trouble! The holiday studio has the most fantastic views of both the surrounding mountains and Heraklion in the distance. It is very comfortable and the kitchen has everything you need to cook. The balcony or patio is really big and offers great views of the sun rising or of starry nights. We hope to return sometime soon.

basic kitchen equipment (but good enough!) ie self catering could have a bit more eg chopping board, sharp knife, and like other places just some ‘basics staples’ when remote, but we do understand early in the season!

Unfortunatelly bed was very uncomfortable.

Eleni is a great host, very flexible, talkative and helpful. Very nice cottage and well furnitured. Convienent kitchen with all needed equipment. Quite place high in the mountains where You can really rest after all day sightseeing or other activities. The pool was awsome. Great place for people who likes nature.

Aetovigla is something very special. We enjoyed the calm atmosphere in the mountains. The view from our house was just amazing. Eleni is a great host and her meals were very delicious. Everything was clean and we also got some self-made wine and fresh vegetables out of the garden for free. We will definitely come back to this wonderful place. Thanks Eleni.

Only a 45min drive from Heraklion airport but nice and peaceful in the middle of nowhere. Exactly what we wanted after a late flight arrival in Crete. The view over the mountains was beautiful. We had a great dinner when we arrived and enjoyed a fantastic breakfast!
