Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Public bath in hotel was good. Location convenient. A free drink every night alcoholic/non alcoholic. Also train station at doorstep though one could easily walk from main kyoto station.

Room was small but comfortable and had a balcony. Train station right outside the front door so easy to get around. Great guest lounge area. Complimentary drink from the bar each night. Complimentary tea and coffee from 10am each day. Kettle in the room. Lots of restaurants and 7-11 nearby. Close to Kyoto station.

United KingdomBreakfast seemed to be sold out when asking the person sitting the people but then at reception I was able to purchase breakfast. Extremely minor issue but was slightly confusing.
As an Irish traveller it was difficult to find a good breakfast in Japan. The breakfast in sakura at 1600 yen was very good and very similar to a breakfast at home if you wanted (sausage, scrambled eggs, bacon etc), it of course had more Japanese style food aswell which was also beautiful. At 1600 yen per person I could not fault it. The room was clean and had sound sleep each night. The public bath was well organised and was refreshing after a full day sightseeing. The complimentary drink each evening was also very appreciated (alcoholic or non). The staff were exceptional for a non Japanese speaker at any time of the day, there always seemed to be at least one staff member at reception with very good English even if the initial contact was not perfect (this is not a negative as it's my ignorance not knowing any Japanese but was highly appreciated). Was very close to kyoto station which would take you anywhere you wanted and was right beside Kujo station (literally seconds from front door) so as a comfortable Base it was perfect.

Hong KongThe room was small with nowhere for clothes storage. Being from HK we're used to tiny spaces and hotel rooms, so not much an issue for us, but may be for others.
Lovely warm room with split A/C and fab compact bathroom. As vegetarians we didn't expect too much from breakfast, but were very pleasantly surprised with the variety and amount of items on offer…..really enjoyed it! Evening free drink was a lovely touch and we liked the cozy vibe of the lounge with many guests wearing samue, post onsen. Free laundry facilities very much appreciated too.

EstoniaThe facilities were not super new, but that's okay.
The location was really good and easy to get to, just a short walk from Kyoto station. The breakfast was good and the welcome drink in the evening was a nice surprise bonus. We had a room on the top floor so the view was very good, plus the bed was very comfortable.

ThailandWe would like to have breakfast in some day, but it is not available for us even we didn’t book with meal.
There’s welcome drink everyday and free laundry machine so it’s very convenient. We also enjoy public bath everyday and night! The location is very good, the subway station next to Kyoto station is in front of hotel. Just walk across the road we can get to the bus station for kiyomizu temple, Gion and others.

AustraliaIt appears that most of the money spent on the hotel went into the lobby and downstairs shared facilities. The carpet and wallpaper throughout the rest of the hotel was stained and peeling. The bed in our room was very firm; our room was also quite small (we only had one hiking backpack and two smaller backpacks and it was a tight fit for luggage, not sure how two suitcases would fit). The room fittings were quite dated and did not look like the pictures on the website. Another issue was the smoking room downstairs which, when opened, let smoke throughout the entire communal lounge/dining area.
The hotel was in a very good location, approximately 8 minutes from Kyoto station where there were excellent dining options. There was also a 7/11 and a Family Mart within 2-5mins from the hotel. The public baths were great; although the male baths had two bath options and a sauna, while the female only had one small bath. The free tea and coffee facilities were good and the nightly free drink was a nice touch. There was even a reading nook to use. Free laundry service as well.
