Unique setting that feels like traveling back in time, the place is very cozy and we were able to star gaze at night. The host brought us fresh eggs and toast in the morning and we were able to enjoy our breakfast in the beautiful dessert farm.

No wifi or breakfast even though they were listed on booking.com. This could be a big deal since there's no cell coverage and closest food is 20 miles.

Be sure to bring food with you as none is provided or locally available. There is a well equipped kitchen that you can use.

The cottage was a lovely original cabin that has been lovingly restored. Filled with books and antiques, surrounded by hills and farms, it is like stepping back in time.

Friendly host. Beautiful little corner of Nevada. Felt like a homesteader for the night. This place is rustic, so set your expectations accordingly and you'll enjoy your stay. Bring your food because it is no longer a B&B.

Unfortunately, breakfast is no longer served, but we were asked by Dave if we planned to use the fully equipped kitchen. I won’t say for certain, but you could probably make arrangements to use the kitchen by calling ahead. Talking to Dave about his father and the story of how they came to be at Unionville was amazing for a WWII US Navy/war in the Pacific buff like me. There are pictures of his Dad, his aircraft and Navy pilot training certificate in the house- those points totally made it for me. I truly think that I could talk about stuff like that with Dave for hours, but he does live and work on a working farm with a lot to do, so unfortunately, that opportunity didn’t present itself. The house is rustic and without internet, but we actually enjoyed being able to disconnect. We were totally comfortable and slept well.

It's a 20 minute drive to the nearest restaurants. There's no cell service.

This is a special place to disconnect and relax. It's 3 miles from the nearest paved road. The building has been beautifully renovated without losing its pioneer character. It's a museum with rooms and common spaces furnished with genuine period antiques. Some of the exterior walls date from the 1860s. Despite that, the plumbing works well, the beds are comfortable and the common kitchen facilities are completely modern. I hope it can stay this way a while longer.

Old house; Near Ghost Town; Off the Grid; But why?
    • Leisure trip
    • Family with young children
    • Queen and Twin Room
    • Stayed 1 night

There is no food for miles. The older reviews talk about this being a bed and breakfast or being able to buy breakfast... do not be fooled. When we checked in the host just said "no" when we asked. Then you turn around and see a working full size refrigerator... all empty, not even the expected old ketchup bottle. But working. Then 2 dishwashers (not working any more) and full cabinets of place settings to service a gaggle. But no food. There are lots of moths here. The house is old and the screens date to the origin. So by dusk you should assume you are sharing the space until the morning with a lot of critters. Keep a hallway light on and they won't bother you. The whole place is full of piles of stuff -- either old books or vcr tapes or just knick knacks. So go in expecting that. Zero wifi or cell connection -- for miles before you get to the place on our service plan at least. The instructions are NOT clear but do not follow your Map -- come in only from the North down to the South road. We followed the map shortest route which turned to be a Eastward road from the main highway.. went over the mountains, past a bunch of mines and cows, but all dirt or ruts or gravel -- thankful we had a high clearance SUV but still did not need that stress as the sun set behind us.

The location was the only thing to spot on this -- it was where we needed to get to in Nevada to make our goals on the overall drive. But knowing know the marginal comfort of the place (and the cons listed below) I might have pushed on for another hour on the main highway to Winnemucca (headed East/ north) or couple of hours to Sparks/Reno (headed West). Now if you are looking for a place near a ghost town that might be another reason you would go here. Here is the scene -- Kind of imagine if you had a really old grandmother whom you know lived off the grid.. and she passed... and you had to go to the house for arrangements. The stay would be like that -- you know living there is possible as she did it, but she left you no food, and all the stuff and beds date from a couple of decades past.

This is a great little place in the middle of nowhere! But that is why you are going there. It is very rustic and charming. However, it needs some serious cleaning. Spider webs all over, very dusty, dead bugs. etc. The rustic experience is great, but can still be clean. That is the only thing I would warn people about.

Very rustic and charming. Great for this type of experience of being back in the "western days". No cell/internet service at all, you are completely off the grid! If you dont bring it, they wont have it. Bring exactly what you need.

One of the most interesting places I've stayed - chock-full of books of every kind, interesting historical artifacts, antique furniture. David was an exceptional and friendly host. My 19 year old, city-raised daughter was thrilled to with the very rural feel of the property, complete with goats, hogs, dogs, cats, lizards, mountains, and history of Unionville.

That it didn’t match the photos presented in the ad. No flowers & furnishings with pillows that need cleaning. A lot of cleaning. No owner check in when electricity went out due to a storm. We looked via our cell phone flashlight for candles & matched. About an hour later we found a lantern. Mouse droppings in kitchen drawers & bathroom.

Location is just as describe-amidst silver mining ruins. Also, to envision what it was like 20-100+ years ago.
