Torichosuji Train Station is a 1-minute walk, and the JR Kumamoto Train Station is a 10-minute drive away. Guests can choose among 5 dining options and relaxing massages can be requested as well. Everything from the lobby to the room was excellent. Clean facilities, genuinely friendly staff, a lovely view, and a bed dressed in crisp, comforting linens. The hotel isn’t brand-new—it’s more like it’s been around long enough to learn good manners. And honestly, that quiet elegance is part of the charm.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Ryokan Yamanoyu. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel incredibly welcome and were very flexible with arrivaltime. They went above and beyond to accommodate our special dietary needs, showing exceptional care and effort. Their kindness and high level of service made our stay special - thanks!
The onsens were a highlight—especially the outdoor ones. The variety of both private and shared baths allowed us to enjoy peaceful, relaxing moments in beautiful surroundings.
As it's a smaller ryokan, the atmosphere was intimate and personal, which made our experience more unique. We stayed for two nights, and the ryokan surprised us with two different dining experiences in two separate rooms. It was a fun and memorable touch—and the food was excellent on both nights, beautifully presented with great attention to detail.
We highly recommend Ryokan Yamanoyu and would love to return one day. Thank you for making our stay so special!

Guests can relax in the hot spring bath at the property. There is also a public bath that can be reserved for private use.
Cannot recommend this ryokan enough. Amazing service, clean rooms, and one of the best service from the staff in my experience (all were exceptionally friendly and helpful). Great attention to detail as well (left our shoes by the heater so when we checked out our feet were nice and warm).
The food is also another highlight. Dinner and breakfast were absolutely delicious. If you’re not a fan of horse sashimi, do not worry, the taste is not strong. Light enough for you to try something new and finish the portion.
Onsens were also great. I love how they swap female and male baths depending on the time of day so you can try all they have to offer. There’s also two private baths as well for couples who want to go together. Place is also tattoo friendly (my husband had on his shoulder but it was not brought up).
Thanks for an amazing stay!

The ryokan has been immaculately crafted to create a quiet enclave away from the hustle: quiet atmosphere (aside from the soft crackle of the small fire in the central shed), immersive nature elements of the plants/rocks/wooden structures, large outdoor onsen intimately surrounded by greenery. Staff are warmly welcoming despite our language barrier. Impressed at their proactive approach at offering to take photos, and asking our departure plans to arrange transport. Kaiseki dinner was top notch, with detailed attention to visuals as well as flavours. The overall environment also encourages other guests to be respectful as well

Featuring a relaxing ambience, each room comes with a comfortable seating area with a low table and seating cushions. Some rooms are fitted with traditional futon bedding, while others have Western beds. A TV and a fridge are included. Ryokan wakaba is a beautiful space. The staff are attentive and friendly, there’s a nice bar on the main floor, and it’s well situated in kurokawa onsen—close to the other ryokan onsens but not in the middle of the foot traffic. Compare to other ryokans, the group onsen is not as hot. However, guests of the ryokan may reserve a private bath at no charge, and the space was great with hot and good water. The food was great, and served in the room. Given the options for private baths, this ryokan is great for families.

Our stay at Kurokawa Onsen Ryokan was nothing short of magical. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel genuinely welcome with their warm and attentive hospitality. The room was traditional Japanese style, peaceful, spacious and beautifully maintained. The private onsen was a truly relaxing experience, offering serene moments of calm and privacy. We also tried the public onsen facilities, which were just as wonderful, with a tranquil atmosphere and stunning natural surroundings. The absolute highlight of our stay was the food. Both dinner and breakfast were traditional Japanese meals, and every dish was outstanding, beautifully presented and full of flavor. You could tell each element was prepared with care and passion. If you're looking for an authentic and unforgettable Japanese ryokan experience, I can't recommend this place enough.

Our family had a lovely stay
Great service and nice room. Highly recommended the place. Had a relaxing stay at Hotel Yumeshizuku.
The staff were friendly and helpful, the onsens were lovely, and the food was fantastic (we did not go hungry). Amazing value for money for our short overnight stay.
Lovely peaceful accommodation in a beautiful part of Japan. The property had everything we needed and we enjoyed relaxing in the sitting room and there was a lovely big dining table. The views from the room over the sea were amazing!
Brilliant! A lovely, beautifully decorated and extremely comfy hostel in Kumamoto (a little away from the centre, but a fairly short walk from multiple train stations). Lots of space, both in the rooms and in the common areas. You could really relax and enjoy a home away from home. Incredibly kind, friendly and helpful host, too. I wish every hostel/guesthouse were as amazing as this one!
Very lovely well-equipped cottage with personal touches of class and luxury.
Its was a lovely place to relax in the country side without too much fuss. The cabin had everything we needed from a washing machine to comfortable enough to beds and room to move. The view was spectacular and the hosts were welcoming and friendly.
The hotel is located in a secluded location which is very quiet and relaxing. There are lots of things to do and see in the Mt Aso locality. It was lovely having our own private outdoor bath to relax in after a busy day sightseeing. All the staff are lovely.
