A great value for the money! Convenient location in the middle of the city, near sightseeing areas. The old hotel is clean and very well kept. The rooms are also are big enough to have comfortable space. The bathroom has been renovated to be quite modern and clean, and the very soft water used for bathing is excellent, making it as good as much more famous and expensive places. The very large meals are also very unique, featuring local ingredients and preparation. The dining room is comfortable, and you do not need to kneel down on the tatami to sit.

Our private outdoor bath with a view was just unbelievable. The massage chair in our room was a bonus. The massages we received were great and at a reasonable price. Would have loved to stay longer.

You can walk to aizu bukeyashiki within 15mins from the hotel, which is great. The rooms are pretty unspectacular and I was disappointed to see no Kotatsu inside the rooms during our December stay. The private outdoor onsen my wife and I booked for an hour was way too hot to even get in and there was no way to adjust the temperature by adding in cold water. It was the hottest water we experienced during our whole trip to Japan and we simply couldn't get because it was so hot. The public onsen on the other hand is amazing. The outdoor area has many smaller pools that cascade their way through the outdoor area and this does not only look great but also all of the pools had different temperatures so we could enjoy them without any issues. As for the kaiseki - it was half kaiseki half buffet which we felt was a great middleground that worked very well. Food was amazing and I would highly recommend the dinner. One thing to mention is that they provided a free shuttle to the station on check out day and the driver went above and beyond to ensure we get the right train (or bus in our case) Still, compared to other similar hotels we've visited, it felt a bit overpriced and lacked the wow-factor.

We stayed in the annex, in a room overlooking the Aga River. It was incredibly beautiful to see that view every day. The room was well-equipped, with comfortable futon, yukata, bathroom, fridge and onsen amenities. The large public bath and rotenburo in the main hotel were excellent.

This is a gorgeous Japanese inn (Ryokan). The lady who runs it speaks good English and is very kind, friendly and helpful, as are the staff. The room was beautiful and I slept comfortably on my futon after a dip in the private bath. I had breakfast in the morning and it was one of the best Japanese breakfasts I’d had and so beautifully presented. The hotel is a 15 min walk from the station and therefore, within a 15 min walk there are quite a few places to eat. The owner can help you with all the recommendations of Aizu Wakamatsu too.

A very special and traditional, relatively small and personal ryokan. Highlights are the dining rooms, where the guests sit around (on tatami) traditional fire places. The food is partly roasted over charcoal. Although basic communication in English works, some knowledge of Japanese language and culture is very helpful. If you go there during the week, you can stay for a really attractive price…

Lovely traditional Ryokan with meals cooked and served sitting on the tatami floor around an Irori sunken fire. The staff attended to cooking the various courses over the hot coals and even breakfast was cooked this way. It was delicious and a great experience. Nice onsen and lovely staff and nostalgic old building.
