This was a very nice change from the urban hotels during our travels around Japan. The proprietress is very charming and the breakfast prepared for us was very intricate with many Japanese foods. Sleeping and bathing traditional Japanese style is also something worth experiencing. To get there from Nara, take the train from Kintetsu Nara to Ikoma station where you can take the tramway up. You can just as quickly reach Ikoma station from Osaka. We visited in September and the last tram up was at 11pm. There was a restaurant open near the ryokan until 10pm (Indonesian). And if you are able to do some stairs, I highly recommend a visit in the morning to the temple complex above the ryokan. Keep following the steps above the first temples and you will find yourself on a truly magical path.

Kotono yado Musashino offers accommodation in Nara, and is located a 11-minute drive from Nara Station on the Kintetsu Nara Line. They gave special care as we were on honeymoon. Enjoyed the great service. Free entry to the hillside with picnic mat and breakfast bento. Superb! They also helped us call for taxi and was overall very attentive.

Wakasa Annex features an outdoor hot public bath and free WiFi. Other facilities include a 24-hour reception, drinks vending machines and free parking. Todai-ji Temple is only an 8-minute walk. Everything exceptional, with big care for every single guest. One of my top rated places, where i stayed. I can just say - Thank you for all!

Offering public baths, Yoshidaya Ryokan よしだや is situated in front of Sarusawa-ike Pond. Kofuku-ji Temple is just a 2-minute walk away. Free WiFi is available on site. Great location, lovely helpful staff, nice room, wonderful view, great shower/bath.

They speak some English and have pamphlets that explain the experiences you can purchase. We purchased the fire and chant ceremony and were blessed. It did not feel like there were many guests, so it was nice to enjoy the quiet baths and dinners. We hiked to the summit for about 20-30 min. Be sure to grab a hiking stick along the way. Very beautiful grounds and well maintained. We enjoyed the lit path at night. Yes, there are some bugs but surprisingly I didn't get many bites. Kaiseki meal was prepared beautifully with local ingredients of shiso, tofu, and pickled vegetables. They provide tea with your meal, so bring a water bottle to dinner, if you prefer.

A 12-minute walk from the Kintetsu Nara Train Station, Hotel New Wakasa offers Japanese-style rooms with tatami (woven-straw) flooring. The amenities provided were excellent. The room was superb and the staff welcoming and polite.

Nara is an amazing place to visit, and Tsukihitei is THE place to stay in. Hidden in the most beautiful forest, just a short walk away from everything you want to see in Nara. The Roykan itself is built like fusion between zen garden and a Japanese palace.
