This was awesome, we wish we could live here! Perfect stylish studio with everything you need. Very comfortable and welcoming. The kitchen is super cool and modern and there are amazing drip coffee tools. Good to know the bed is a pull out couch (comfortable one), but in the closet there are also futons (you can prepare them yourself). Amazing shower too, it’s brand new, sparkly clean and great water pressure. We loved all the local restaurant recommendations highlighting local produce

This is a charming new home in a quiet neighborhood. The host was very gracious and met us when we arrived to let us in. Location was good - a 5-7 minute walk to the train station, convenience store and restaurants. The 4 beds in the upstairs bedroom were wonderfully large and comfortable.

We spent two blissful nights at the beautiful Pansy Guest House and met the sweet and generous owner, Fukumi-san. Despite her age and recent health challenges, she drove there to welcome us and also on our checkout, when it rained heavily that morning. Her lovely house is fully equipped and comes with: a dedicated free parking lot (number 2), a beautiful garden with lots of blossoming flowers the view of which you can enjoy from the comfortable engawa, washing machine with a covered yard for drying laundry, the deepest bath tub to enjoy a comfortable hot soak, all manner of equipment, utensils, and beverage options in the perfect kitchen, comfortable TV room, a beautiful Japanese living room with beautiful tokonoma and display of girls dolls, and a comfortably decked out bedroom with futons on tatami. There was nothing we needed that Pansy didn't have. We felt very fortunate to stay here and to experience the unforgettable omotenashi of Fukumi-san. Surely, we would like to stay here again when we visit the Kumano area in future.

    I spent one night in Kii-Katsuura after walking the Kumano...

    I spent one night in Kii-Katsuura after walking the Kumano Koda Daimon-Zaka section up to the Nachisan shrine and waterfall. It is a four hour train ride from Osaka but we’ll worth it to see this beautiful area in Japan. Just to warn you, the iconic red pagoda near the waterfall is currently being restored and is covered in tarpaulin until early next year. Katsuura is a sleepy fishing and onsen town. Visit the fishery on the port at 7am to see the daily tuna auction. A great experience is bathing in the cave onsen at Hotel Urashima on an Island five minutes by ferry from Katsuura.

    The place was perfect to venture every day to gorgeous...

    The place was perfect to venture every day to gorgeous places, part of the so called ‘Kumano Kodo’ route, visiting the most breathtaking locations we have ever seen. Local buses take you to every direction: from the Nachi Falls to Hongu (via Shengu), all of which are the main reasons, to visit Nachi-Katsuura. Walking around the quiet town, however, is also a good idea: the seashore is spectacular, walking or biking around, and admiring the charming, original old houses, dotted around the place. You can also witness a genuine tuna auction, a ten minute walk from the house, if you are willing to get up before 7am. Most importantly, I must mention local people. In general, all over Japan we find people charming and kind. In Nachi-Katsuura they go out of their way to help you! We were looking for a bakery (there are several, with yummy products) and a local resident, we only asked to instruct us in the correct direction - actually walked with us to three, before finding what we were after. Equally, all bus drivers were so helpful always, we just fell in love with them. Our host was equally kind, as were his friends: helping with our luggages, and serving us wonderful food at his lovely restaurant.
