Don't stay overnight in crowded Chamonix, unless you like a Disney-kind of atmosphere. Instead, village Les Houches has pleasant places overlooking the Mont Blanc glaciers. Excellent Tourist Office. Town quieter and friendlier than Chamonix. Two good access points to the middle mountains for hiking. Bus system excellent, buses ran every 30 minutes while we were there. Quite walkable to the train station, as well.Guest review byJill - 10.0

Very nice area with beautiful mountain views, right under the famous Mont Blanc, easy to access quite a lot of ski lifts taking you up to the ski slopes. Very high level professional ski slopes Les Houches' downside is their council operated facilities have arrogant staff (not including the cashier staff who are very nice). The flat is located maximum 10 min on foot from the center of les houches. We can take the train every 1h to chamonix for free with a carte d’hôte. Rental shop, gondola lift and the stop of bus line 1 are just in front of the building. A very good pizzeria is just on the ground floor in the same building.
