Located 50 miles from Geneva, Chamonix is accessible through Geneva International Airport. Booking.com features a great selection of hotels, apartments and vacation homes in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc.
I enjoy hiking in the mountains and forests so visiting Chamonix in late summer was great. The variety of trains and cable cars offer access to high, and in some cases spectacular, viewing points and places to start walking without necessarily doing all the hard work climbing. But be aware, this stage in the season, Late September, means several of the cable cars are not operating.
Chamonix itself reflects a degree of faded glory; it was overrun by tourists (yes, including us) and gave the impression of being a bit of a tourist zoo rather than the small, cute French Alpine town it was decades ago, and still sells itself as. But. Going just a street or two off the main thoroughfare and there's still some charm in amongst it all. Food, views, relaxation can be had with a little effort then, if you want, dive back into the hubbub and heaving mass of the unwashed. Chamonix is all about location and access, access to Mont Blanc, the surrounding countryside, Aguille du Midi etc, and for the average tourist it's a great base. It's not car friendly by any means (very limited parking, congested streets and locals quite fed up with it all), so if possible ditch your car and use the train to go in. Making your way around on foot is no trouble, and there is a bus that goes up and down the valley road, so access to lifts and outlying villages is no problem. Self-catering, if you can find the rooms, helps, as there are a few supermarkets scattered throughout the town. One huge advantage of staying in Chamonix itself is the ability to catch the very early cable-cars up the mountains. Don't be suckered in by late breakfasts or your family's desire to sleep in; if you get onto one of the first cable-cars up the mountain you will never regret it; you'll be in the company of the hard core climbers and trekkers, and will avoid the onrush of the bulk of tourists. We managed to get the first cable-car up (around 6:10am), got to do the Panaorama and look all over and through the Aguille, packed as much as we could into the day at a leisurely pace and be back in Chamonix for a mid-afternoon coffee. Most of it we were either by ourselves or with a handful of others; as we waited to go down the onslaught began coming the other way!
Great place for hiking while tasting Savoy food and wine. There are a lot of hiking routes for beginners and professionals. Chamonix is not a big town, everything is in walking distance. People speak english so french is not required.
The liveness of the town, full range of shops’ level, AMAZING views, cultural settings (eg Crystal Museum), entertainment, tours, hiking trails… a paradise. Costs and prices wise: moderate for that type of location. A very charming town.
The small town is charming and very beautiful. Easy walk anywhere, tons of restaurant options, lots of great shops. An option for every budget. Food is very tasty and there are lots of alternatives for different tastes. Definitely recommend the hike to Mont Blanc Ice Caves, the caves, taking the gondola and the train down. Walking down from the mountain top can be a little brutal on your feet as there are lots of rocks and surface is very uneven. Going up is no problem. For a great French cuisine experience try Josephine’s restaurant !
Location was good however the bedrooms and ceilings were all painted Matt black - hard to find light switches and the room needed deodorising and cleaning. A big brekkie buffet and polite staff however this hotel needs a thorough clean throughout and better communication prior to check in - all facilities and events should be explained and a better check in and check out system as it is chaotic especially at check out time . Not a preferred choice of hotel for us it just isn’t clean and tidy to a standard. Lots of good restaurants and shops however it is super expensive for a decent meal.
Location of the hotel is at the heart of the shopping district, restaurant and all other shops. Hotel has great room size with good heaters and balcony. Staff are amazing and helpful, upon checkin small gift given to all guest it was portable glass bottle with led where you can fill it up with fresh water anytime from reception. Ski shop detached to the hotel as you can rent ski gear with cheap cost.
The hotel has an open-plan bar and restaurant that's really good. For those with children there is an open plan play area right next to the bar. It does not interfere with the bar (much) but means you can sit down and feel like an adult while the kids play. There is no where like it in Chamonix - one of the locals told us when she dropped in herself. Town is 100m away.
Spa and location were good; close to the restaurants downtown however the way were were greeted absolutely ruined our experience at this resort. I have never experience the treatment we received upon arriving at the hotel. Arrived early for check in and when asked if we could leave our bags in storage were told it was full and asked to leave the hotel.
Location: The best! In the centre od Chamonix. Room: Mont Blanc room wast the best choice for us (family of 4) - amazing view! It was like a small flat, not room :) Service: We apreciated tea and coffee for free. Hotel: Old furnitured, but this is understandable. We liked hotel club for evening meetings with our friends.
The Hotel is very central to Chamonix and all the shops and restaurants are only a short walk. The room is very comfortable as is the bathroom and separate toilet. Towels were really thick. Car parking on-site is very reasonably priced compared to the nearby public car parks. Staff are very helpful and friendly
The location is very close to the train station. Hotel email us the QR code for car parking. Heated shower towel rack which dry up towel faster. Free guest pass to ride the bus and train when you check in. If can email QR code before that will be better, start check in day and end with check-out day.
The hotel is kids friendly, you will notice that from the loopy. There is drinks for free for kids, and candies, for adults there is a hot beverage machine for free also! They are very generous and professional. The place is clean and quiet. Love it. Thanks for every one working here, appreciate u all.
