Only accessible by train, departing from Montenvers-Mer de Glace Train Station, Terminal Neige Refuge du Montenvers is a shelter-style hotel set in a 19th-century building and located at an altitude... I stepped off the little red train and was blown away. Pictures so often cannot do justice to amazing places like this. The hotels website got me here, but experiencing it first hand, will have us coming back! We walked into the hotel and were greeted by friendly staff. Upon check-in we immediately asked if another night was available. We were told they would try to accomodate us, and to check back in later. The man seemed doubtful he had another room for three, my husband and I, plus our 9 year old son. We dropped off our bags and sat for lunch at the restaurant, the glass room perfect to take in our surroundings. We had dinner around 7pm. Dinner is included and they don’t disappoint. The food was fantastic. The next morning, assuming we’d not get another night on short notice, we reserved rooms elsewhere for the remainder of our vacation, and we checked out. To our total surprise they we able to secure us another night and booked it assuming we’d want to stay! The service here was unparalleled. Had we not assumed the worst and booked elsewhere, no question we’d have stayed another night. I felt terrible we didn’t ask first if they were able to swing the extra night. If you want to stay somewhere that will take your breath away and have the very best service, this is your place!

Great staff. Very helpful and could speak very good English. Room was nice and clean with everything we needed. Arrived late so did not see Chamonix like we wanted to. Love to go back skiing someday. Rate this place very good.
Chamonix is a charming little town, packed full of restaurants but if you come to ski then prepare to be disappointed. The lift pass is expensive but there has been little investment and the whole system it is antiquated, particularly compared to Austria. Areas are only linked by long tedious sweaty bus/train journeys. It was meant to be fully open during my visit, but some pistes were not even groomed and it was horrible on some of the old rickety lifts. We talked to a local who despaired of the state of the slopes and spoke of how little of the pricey lift pass money was invested back into the infrastructure. We did enjoy Christmas in Chamonix though, there was a lovely Christmas Eve parade and we had some very nice meals in the many restaurants in the town.
Chamonix is a lovely little town. It's a perfect location for skiing in the surrounding slopes. As a family we skied in Les Houches and got the free train from Chamonix every morning and free bus back from Les Houches. I would totally recommended staying here for begineer skiers with kids. The ESF school in Les Houches is also fantastic. Chamonix also has a great selection of restaurant and do not miss Aguille de Midi cable car !!
Amazingly beautiful mountain town with tons of activities for everyone to enjoy, whether you're an outdoor enthusiast or not. Incredible skiing with enough variety to keep you entertained for weeks. Great food, hospitable locals, very international group of visitors. Easy to get there via Geneva airport and local transportation is excellent. You do not need to rent a car to enjoy this area.
Great advanced offpiste skiing in the right conditions; marked and prepared slopes nothing special. Lifts not the most update or in best condition; we were stuck twice for 10-40 min on malfunctioning lifts. Nice ambiance in the town. Fairly expensive. Ski areas not interconnected like the Arlberg or Superski Dolomiti. Easy to access from Geneva airport.
We had a wonderful dinner at "Le Chaudron" - excellent food, wine and service! For all of Chamonix's restaurants in the historic Rue du Moulin, make sure you reserve at least a few days in advance! Our favorite breakfast spot was Extreme Café - very nice owners and great food! We rented ski material from Intersport in the city centre but they had so many customers they weren't attentive and didn't even ask how our boots fit (I had to go find someone to try different boots and they weren't very interested). We heard Snell Sports (just up the street) is really great - maybe try them instead.

Wonderful staff and very pleasant environment. We had a mountain view room which was so worth it. The view is simply amazing. If your room doesn't face that way, there is a little lounge on the entry level that looks out - just down the hall from the reception. a great place to have a drink and relax, especially if it is too cool to be on the terrace. There is a lift/elevator (but small - 2 or 3 people max or 1 person and a suitcase). Very clean, slightly rustic - but well appointed. The restaurant was nice as was the terrace for enjoying the late afternoon. Wifi was very good. Parking available. Wish we could have taken advantage of a few more of the amenities - just not a long enough stay. Very happy we stayed here!
