I recently had the pleasure of staying at COMO Shambhala Estate in Bali with my family, and it was an extraordinary experience. I was supposed to stay for 4 days and end up staying for 3 weeks The villa is beautiful, everything is new and well decorated. Super quiet, great internet for work, far from crazy ubud traffic but still close enough for anything you need to do in ubud centre. The highlight was to wake up looking at the rice fields and spend the afternoon at the pool with the sound of the river. They provided everything I needed, driver from/to the airport, cleaning every day, sent my clothes to laundry, visa extension, provided massage at the villa, bought coconut and fruits fresh in the morning, they even built a wooden step when I mentioned that I had a problem in my ankle and was afraid of the stairs. And the most special part, they invited me to a local ceremony at the village temple. It’s 10 times better than hotel. I had the comfort of staying in a house with kitchen, living room and private pool. And they also took very good care of me.     Payangan is about 20 - 30 minutes out of Ubud, depending on traffic. It is an excellent introduction to Balinese village life and the 'real' Bali. There are no facilities except some basic little general stores, and no ATM in the village. Outside of the hotels, there are no restaurants. It's a 'get away from it all' destination.

    + - Beautiful place - Amazing surroundings. - Friendly staff - Good food - Spacious rooms - - Little flaws in the room (airco and fan not working properly) - Little bit overpriced (laundry service, taxi service) - Staff should put out cushions by the pool when pool opens (we had to ask after being there for 2 hours) - The charge of 10% service fee on everything really bothered us.

    The area is spectacularly beautiful however it cops a lot of rain and there can be land slides which cut road access. Our hotel (Adiwana Dara Ayu Villas) was a long way from other properties, so eating options (hotels, restaurants, local warungs) were non existent and sadly as the food in our hotel was abysmal (even the Indonesian was done badly) we skipped eating meals which diminished the pleasure of the holiday.

    This was our favorite place in Bali. A true gem, hidden in the middle of rice fields, 15 min away from Ubud by taxi. The location is remote and quiet, close enough to bustle that you can get there quickly, but far enough that you feel like you are really staying in the middle of the jungle. The entire villa complex is gorgeous and fun to explore, the (cheap) massages were fantastic, the villas themselves very private and excellently-fitted.

    Located in the deepest part of Ubud, the setting is fantastic, the best rainforest style hotel in Bali. The temperature is low at night, and customers need to keep warm. Both the natural scenery and the location of the hotel are excellent, the night is very quiet, and it is comfortable to sleep with the sound of insects and frogs.
