Monteria is a typical northern town in Colombia.
Monteria is a typical northern town in Colombia. Hot and Hot and Hot! It cools nicely in the evening. They call the people who live here Costenos. People of the coast. The city has everything one needs to live a modern life without the hubbub of a big city. No real traffic to speak of, low crime rate and plenty of shopping. Monteria is mostly an agricultural town, lots of cows. There are no real tourist attractions unless you want to see the giant muddy Sinu river. They have an annual Ag Show, Feria. I have never attended. Monteria is how real Colombians in the northern Colombia. If you are traveling along the Pan-American Highway, it passes by Tolu and through Monteria on its way south to Arboletes and further south to Apartado( Routa de Banano), Turbo and eventually Medellin. A truly spectacular ride!

Montería is a nice rural city. The people are great, the countryside is beautiful, and the proximity to the coast is definitely a plus. If you don’t speak much Spanish I’d recommend you practice or have a guide for your trip when traveling here. Traffic is crazy, so if you’re not used to driving in Colombia I’d recommend a taxi or Uber. Just like much of Colombia not many places have central HVAC so prepare for things to be on the warmer side. All in all Montería is a hidden gem for those looking to experience the Costeña culture in Colombia without the large population or many other tourists.FordUnited States of America
