Charming! Beautifully preserved architecture line cobblestone streets, within the fortified walls, next to the Caribbean Sea. Great restaurants, watering holes, shops, historic churches, museums - a wonderful experience.
The old walled city is full of resteraunts and bars with a variety to suite anyone's tastes and budgets. Plenty of local sights to see while walking around and photo ops to be had. Depending upon your hotel location and room orientation there could be some traffic noise at night. Taxi rides to and from Boca Grande are easy to get and only a few dollars at most. Lovely patios to sit on and have a beverage the only draw back is the street vendors will approach you to sell you whatever goods they possess...most of the time a simple "no thank you" will suffice...there are the few that are a little more aggressive with the sales pitch but keep saying "No" and they will move on. Plenty of people walking around till Midnight or later and I never thought safety was an issue.
Cartagena is a delightful city. Much to see and do, or you can just come and enjoy the beach, and sitting by the hotel pool. The heat, especially mid-day and afternoon, is INTENSE, especially if you are not used to high temps with high humidity (think New Orleans in July)! No Uber is permitted but cabs are plentiful. Be sure you settle the price BEFORE you get into one of the yellow taxis. One driver wanted 50 pesos for a short ride. We said no. Next one said 10 pesos. We rode with him!
We arrived in Cartagena with high expectations. And although the colonial architecture was spectacular, it was often overshadowed by the multitude of tourists. The historic center seemed very touristy for us. We were approached by many vendors while sitting in the sidewalk cafes. Many horse drawn carriages circling the neighborhood. I really felt sad for the horses. We cut our stay in Cartagena short-two days. To top it off one of the shops over charged my credit card $200. We had a much better time in Colombia visiting other parts of the country-Amazon, Minca, Santa Marta, Tayrona National Park and Barichara.
A city with a lot of history. You have to drink a lot of water because is a very wet city (more than 90% of humidity ) and wear a hat. Is not just the city, there are many places you can visit around of Cartagena. The people is very nice. You need to change your dollars with pesos colombianos (COP) but there are a lot of exchange houses in the city. The worst exchange rate is in the airport exchange house.
Great city with a lot to do... Many restaurants to choose from, reasonably priced. Easy to walk almost everywhere. Taxis are available too. Day sails to the islands close by for swimming in clear water. A 2 hour sunset sail is also a good option. The city is full of history, including old Spanish buildings/architecture and a fort to tour. Great place to visit, I would recommend it.
Oz Luxury hotel exceded my expectations. This is an elegant boutique hotel with an excellent location within a 2 minute walk to the beach and surrounded by restaurants in a very safe area. The rooms are spotless clean with an elegant style of decoration and a very very comfortable bed. The insight restaurant was just perfect and the upstairs terrace was algo gorgeous providing a beautiful view of the city. This gem is now where I will stay on my future visits to Cartagena. It is also just a 5 minute drive to the old city.
Fantastic hotel in a wonderful central part of the old city. From the moment you arrive, you are bowled over by the friendliness and professionalism of the staff. The hotel is in a beautiful old building. The rooftop pool is a good size with bar and restaurant. There are 5 comfy cabanas together with the sun beds, so plenty of space. Breakfasts are amazing. Highly recommend this hotel.
Amazing location, 3 minutes from the beach, 10 minutes from the old city, lots of places to eat and book tours, near by pharmacy, staff was very attentive, rooms where clean, I stayed on the 26 floor and it had an amazing view to the beach, wish they had a atm in the hotel, need to walk to a adjacent mall to get money but even that was like real close. Definitely will return to stay.
Staff was really great (and all called "Rosa", notably Rosa Roja, Rosa Azul, Rosa Negra). The hotel also helped us out with coordinating the Covid-tests we required for our return trip home. The hotel is located in one of the cutest streets of the old city, and everything was at walking distance from the hotel. Great place to stay when visiting Cartagena!
This is a wonderful hotel in an old colonial building. The room and bathroom super clean and lots of space and hot water in the bathroom. Good breakfast served in a lovely setting. We stayed 2 nights while exploring Cartagena, then left for the islands, and returned for one more night. The staff is absolutely wonderful!
Staff was very very helpful. Bedroom was amazing with a private jacuzzi. Breakfast was delicious, they will serve it to you on your balcony, overall 5 star treatment...a very small hotel which makes it even more charming. LOCATION! couldn't be better for the old city. Totally recommend staying here over Bocagrande.
Hotel is in a couple of old colonial houses in a great location in the old historic city of Cartagena. The internal courtyards were a pleasant place to relax outside the rooms. Breakfast was good with really friendly staff on duty which made a great start to the day.
Cartagena was a great travel destination and staying at the Bastion Luxury Hotel inside the Old City was definitely the best way to see the place - beautiful roof top pool area - AC worked great - big showers - it was a very quite hotel & service was impeccable
In one word location. The hotel is in the heart of the tourist zone of Cartagena. I had fun, It were a really good time there. Highly recommended. The staff couldn't be better, always polite and willing to help.
I really liked the location, on the weekend at night there is a great ambient near the hotel. The room was nice and clean and the stuff was super helpful. I also loved the breakfast. Thank you for everything!!
Zana Hotel staff was very helpful and met all my needs. The hotel is conveniently close to the epicenter of action here in Getsemani. Very close to Trinidad Plaza which comes alive at night.
This hotel is perfectly located, in a quiet area of Getsemani, you can walk to the old city. People a very helpful. Good breakfast, very cosy rooms. The top roof area is very enjoyable!
If you want the sanitised version of Cartagena stay in Bocogrande. For us Old Town was ‘too polished’ but this area gives you a real feel and the hotel is first class.
The only good thing about hotel Still is its location. Although you can find many homeless people around it, Old city is just behind the corner.
The property is perfectly located within the old city of Cartagena. Everything is walking distance from the hotel.
The hotel is located in the best location of Cartagena de Indias
Wonderful stylish hotel. They have maintened this 200 years house in a very good state. My Room was tastefully decorated, clean, and comfortable. The rooftop with the pool is incredible! A special mention to the staff who is very helpful and friendly.
Marco one of the staff was so very helpful. All the other staff members were awesome but Marco went above and beyond. I enjoyed my stay very much and will be returning again.
