Hyatt Regency Cartagena, Casa Mantilla 3-37, and Hotel Casa San Agustin got great room view-related reviews from travelers in Cartagena de Indias.
I was there with a small group of friends for approximately 4 days, arriving at noon on a Friday and departing on Tuesday morning. We could've stayed much longer. The restaurants alone are enough to keep you occupied for a week+. Food highlights: La Cevecheria, Restaurante 1621, La Vitrola, Restaurante Donjuán, Alma, and so many we didn't get to go to. We also booked a private boat trip to the islands one day that had a captain and crewman. Highly recommend Thalasa - the manager, Ana Maria, was extremely helpful in setting it up, and was there to greet us and get us settled that morning. As far as accommodations, we stayed at the Bastión Luxury Hotel which was wonderful. It was beautiful, comfortable, convenient, had a pool, and the staff - particularly Daniela G. in the Guest Service department - were very kind and always willing to give recommendations and directions. The old city itself is beautiful and vibrant. The stone walls enclose hundreds of charming colonial homes, churches, parks and plazas. Can't wait to visit again in the future!
It's beautiful Cartagena. Inside the old part of town you have everything and can walk anywhere don' t need taxis. You have very nice and not expensive restaurants . In plaza San Diego you have Juan del mar, very nice food , near to the left la cevicheria and a beautiful Argentinian restaurant. For good coffee the Juan Valdez cafe you just ask they have 3 or 4. If you by jewelry always bargain the price the cheapest I found is shadday in calle del estanco del aguardiente. Be careful with the hotels most rooms have no windows and some not even hot water in the shower. To go see the islands take una lancha, not the Alcatraz is terrible, once again bargain the price, if you bargain you can get most of the times good prices . If you need a hairdresser go out of the old city prices are always higher in there or call jeni she will go to your hotel and the prices are very good and she does a wonderful job 316 4954343. Do not choose Aqualina hotel it's the most terrible thing I have seen.
We stayed in Centro Historico which was fantastic, but rest of city seemed to be just another big city. Beaches, by our (Australian) standards were really poor, albeit still probably attractive to those from Europe. Just strolling around the historic streets was fantastic, with many sit down small restaurants/ bars to take a break. The great night time activity is around the two squares to the East, with regular horse-drawn buggies adding to ambience. But city authorities should really close of streets to cars in this evening dining area. There was an endless stream of yellow taxis constantly circling empty, looking for that elusive fare. No need. Diners can walk to end of a new car-free zone if/ when they want a taxi. The KGB bar, as suggested, is a USSR themed bar, was a great spot to chill.
We stayed two days in Cartagena. It was beautiful and nice to walk around. However it was very hot and we found ourselves running from shade to shade and also there wasn't a lot to do, so two days was fine. We went to the beach by the Hilton on the very end of bocagrande as we had heard that the beach was dirty further down. The but we went to was lovely and I would recommend it- it was the warmest sea I have ever swum in- it was like a bath! :) The fortress was good to visit too. we ate at Cocina de Pepinas and Lunaticos as recommended and both had fantastic food.
The old city is absolutely beautiful. Many top restaurants you'll find inside boutique hotels but they only serve dinner from 7 until 10 pm and it is necessary to make reservations in advance during high season (at least 2 to 3 days prior) El Gobernador, Marea and Carmen are really good but also on the expensive side. Don't expect white sand beaches because is volcanic sand but if you really want it, the best you can do is go to the Rosario islands where you can also stay if you wish, again, reservations are a must!. As for vendors, massages and food on the street and at the beach always haggle the price they will try to overcharge you, also ask taxi drivers to turn on the taximeter as soon as you get in and if possible use uber.
Cartagena has a beautiful walled city (historical center), full of incredible passages with windows and some history. There are also all kinds of restaurants and bars on the wall as the French Riviera. Tembien from Cartagena you can go to the beaches of Baru and Rosario Islands (White Beach among many).
Extremely nice place, with a up-standing attention from the staff and great services available in the hotel itself. A quick story, it was raining hard, and we borrowed an umbrella from the hotel for us (2 kids + 2 adults). After a few minutes, someone from the hotel rushed under the rain to find us in a nearby shop to give us another umbrella so we would be more comfortable. We enjoyed every moment of our stay with them.
Amazing, friendly service!!!! The decorations of the hotel feel warm and inviting. The rooftop pool relaxing. Delicious restaurant onsite with amazing live music on Saturday’s. Excellent location. Quiet, comfortable rooms. We loved everything about our stay at Casa Lola.
This hotel was absolute perfection! The city was amazing but we would all return for the hotel! The roof top was so relaxing, food and staff were excellent and the rooms were comfortable and beautiful. The twin beds were almost the size of doubles.
The omlette cook just kept smiling no matter the line. Cindy was so kind to make reservations at restaurants. During check out at 430 am, a to go breakfast was presented. Super location, super service. Hotel also had great beach security.
Super friendly staff, breakfast buffet was really good, ac and wifi perfectly working and the location is very central
