FAQs about hotels in Cartagena de Indias

Caribbean History, Color & Soul

Colourful and historic, modern and colonial, local and touristic, Cartagena de Indias represents one of the liveliest Colombian beach resorts. Its character mixes cultures and peoples, including natives, Spanish, African and Arab. Its rich legacy granted its Old Town the recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

When the Spanish founded the city in 1533, the region had already been inhabited for thousands of years. It became an important port for the Spanish gold and a significant political centre. Echoes of those times can be seen throughout the historic centre, in the city walls, the San Felipe de Barajas Castle, and the colourful streets and colonial squares. Some of the best hotels in Cartagena de Indias can be found here.

Proudly Caribbean, Cartagena’s soul gives the rhythm to the streets, and the music coming out of cafés and restaurants is nothing but a physical manifestation of its collective spirit. Follow the beat, get to the seaside, and have one of your best holidays. Hotels near Cartagena de Indias’ beaches will be the perfect stage.

You can reach the city flying from Bogotá El Dorado International Airport to Rafael Nuñez Airport. Don’t miss this remarkable piece of Colombia, Booking.com offers you the best hotel deals in Cartagena de Indias.

Somewhat dangerous at night if you dont know where you are going.I spend 10 days during the fiestas novembrinaws, too many people that weekend from 10 to 14 of november.I like more quiet places.Rest of the days were just fantastic.Nice beaches if you go to playa blanca, also islas del rosario. You can go shopping although not many special items to buy, same old tourist stuff.Nice people every where, very kind. Have to try pescado frito and arroz con coco by the beach , sitting on a tumbona.

It's a beautiful historic city, however it is extortionate prices, everyone wants to scam you, everyone wants to make money out of you, you have to pay for absolutely everything, tours are a bit of a scam, the water unfortunately has a lot of plastic and rubbish which is very sad to see and some of the streets are filthy. However the locals are harmless and friendly and the food is great. I wouldn't spend more than 3 nights there. The islands are overrated and have been destroyed by pollution unfortunately.

We loved the old walled city.

We loved the old walled city. The Mercado was rough and dirty with contending boom boxes that were not good for our eardrums. Eating out was very good with many places/restaurants to choose from and the food was tasty and not expensive. We loved the old convent and the area around it. The history is indeed interesting. The weather was bright but hot while we were there. The culture of the city is appealing and Cartagenians are proud to maintain it and not simply copycat American pop culture. We did a lot of walking and enjoyed the place. We felt safe and had nothing ontoward to contend with. The police were around but were never outwardly displaying arrogant control.

Beautiful boutique hotel in Getsemani and only a short walk from the old city. Getsemani is an absolute must visit - we almost enjoyed it more than the old city! The hotel had a lovely rooftop pool and bar and the rooms were fantastic. The staff were all incredible - particularly Jhonatan on the front desk who went above and beyond to help us, with nothing being too much trouble. He helped us with local recommendations and organising trips to the islands - we can’t thank him enough for making our stay so special!

The location is 10/10. Located right outside the centro histórico walls, right down the street from the Serrezuela Mall. Even more important for me, it’s located right the street from Marsol, the best mode of transport between Cartagena-Barranquilla-Santa Marta. The hotel is great, my room was huge and everything worked really well. AC excellent, wifi excellent, hot water excellent, clean, nice bed. Great price as well compared to other expensive hotels in Cartagena. One of my favorite hotels. 10/10

Hotel Casa San Agustín was really an extraordinary and magical place. They have taken care of every detail in the architecture of the place and the staff was so worry about everything you need. In addition, the food in Alma Restaurant was delicious. The place was magical, literally a diamond in the middle of old Cartagena de Indias. My trip would not have been the same if I had not stay here.

Hotel was clean with good facilities. Food was good. All the staff were friendly and helpful. It was easy to travel into the Historic City with a 15 minute taxi ride coding US$5. And we had no problem with any taxi. Uber is not good because private cars are not allowed into the old city. We simply asked the drive how much and that was the fixed price. No one tired to cheat us.
