This luxurious hotel offers 3 swimming pools surrounded by palm trees and comfortable sun loungers. Rooms have private balconies and free WiFi. The Sonesta is a beautiful hotel. We stayed in the King Suite which had a balcony. I felt the room itself was a little small, but the balcony was quite spacious, although it would have been nice to have a small table on the balcony to place drinks on. Breakfast was good. The hotel has access to the beach which is nice. I only used the pool on the last day which was lovely as well.

Super fun city with amazing food and culture. You must always be aware of your surroundings though and be careful as it can be dangerous. A man on a bike snatched my phone from my hand. It did not ruin my opinion of the city though.
This was our second trip there, having been there in 2020, just before Covid shut down the world. Even though there were travel advisories, the city was very safe and had a large police and tourist police presence. The vendors catering to cruise ships were a bit annoying, but with timing activities they could be avoided. The people were very helpful and friendly. Beaches were easily accessible by taxi.
It is an incredible city to visit. The heat is a deterrent to doing a lot of walking, luckily there are many cafes and places to savour their incredible fruit juices. A bit too many tourists, but that is understandable because of it's many attractions. It is quite affordable- restaurants range from a $4 meal to to a $100 gourmet feast. Water is safe, street food is safe and delicious-all good! People are great! Very friendly and helpful. Some areas you have to be a little more aware-but overall very safe.
Getting around the city was easy and we always felt safe, even after dark. We walked from our hotel in Getsemani to Centro each day. If we wanted to go to a farther location, the taxis were inexpensive but be sure to ask the cost before getting in our you may pay more than you need to. They have a Hop On-Hop off tour bus for the city but it would be less expensive to go to the spots you were interested in by taxi but they do have an audio recording with information that may be worth it. We did a boat tour to Baru and Islas del Rosario in a small/medium size boat and the ride over the waves was painful. The island stops were nice but only do this in a large boat if at all. We also did a day on Isla Tierra Bomba which was a much easier boat trip of about 10 minutes. The island has gorgeous sand and the sea is warm and enjoyable. When walking around you will constantly be approached by folks selling things and it is irritating...you need to look them in the eye and say "No" unless you want to bargain and buy something. There are also rappers who come up to you and rap for a donation. I didn't tip them but now think I should have just donated a small bill or some change and had fun with it rather than being annoyed. You will find the same merchandise almost everywhere; the more run down the neighborhood you are walking in and the dollar stores will have the lowest prices. We really liked the coffee at the San Alberto coffee shop. The prices in the upscale restaurants are very reasonable when you do the currency conversion. Walking around Getsemani you see some sweets with artwork painted on the buildings and umbrellas or flags overhead. The Naval museum in Centro is worthwhile. The doors and door knockers are interesting as are the churches.
The walled city is a very speciall one. It really worth to walk it if you appreciatte the arquitecture of the colonial era. The walls are in a very good conservation state. The location of the old city by the sea is great. It is posible to know it completely by walking. It is also an excellent idea to rent bikes. The sunsets are beautiful. The city is plenty of people at night when the wind lowers the hot of the day. To have dinner in the open air at a restaurant in a square is great. The city worths each one of the 14 days we spent. I firmly recommend it.
Stunning colonial architecture swathed in gorgeous bougainvillea flowers, friendly buzz on the streets, stellar and reasonably priced seafood and local cuisine. Huge hilltop fortress with commanding views, a naval museum that will engage serious history enthusiasts and little boys who like boats. Several pretty plazas for sitting and people watching and easy access to excursions to nearby island beaches. Sound good? You'll love the old walled city of Cartagena.
The hotel location is in the old center in the Barrio Getsemani near the Calle 10. Calle 10 is the one of interesting area's of the old center. There are restaurants, shops, bars and cafe and the lively Plaza de la Trinidad with its night life is near by. However the small hotel is quiet and relaxed. The rooms are simple but clean. The staff is was friendly, helpfull and every time good mood. The breakfast is standard for Colombia with cafe, fruit, bread and you can choose more items from a menu. The hotel can arrange air shuttle.
Staff is super friendly and detail oriented. The hotel is architecturally delightful on the inside. I have stayed in 3 different size rooms from small, to medium to the main suite - all of them are good rooms. It’s very clean. The on-site restaurant is great. I love the breakfast. Have stayed in a lot of hotels in Colombia, about 8 different places in Cartagena- and I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. Good spot!
Getsemani, Cartagena de Indias
Lovely place with very friendly staff, they were quite welcoming and gave us recommendations on places to visit taking into account the post-lockdown restrictions. The location of the hotel is great, two blocks away from Plaza de la Trinidad. The street where the hotel is located on is pretty lively with street food and neighbors hanging out on the street playing dominoes and cards.
The location was perfect. Getsemani is a stunning neighborhood to stay in and so close to the old city. The staff at Arsenal was always helpful and kind. It was my birthday and they surprised me during breakfast with a happy birthday song and pastry. The hotel itself is worth it. It’s super clean, the rooms were really nice and spacious. Honestly, it exceeded my expectations.
Very nice hotel in a great location in the city center of Cartagena, amazing breakfast but above all the staff was very nice and helpful, they allocated us very quiet rooms exactly as requested and helped us a lot with the luggage and getting the taxi to airport, a big THANK YOU and I would definitely recommend this hotel to anybody visiting Cartagena.
Laguito, Cartagena de Indias
A good hotel like a Hilton needs to be, Big room with comfy beds. Good cleaning of the room. More than a good breakfast for Colombian standards. Friendly staff and clean hotel. Nice bar and restaurants and a really good pool, private beach, and pool bar with a lot of good food on the menu.
This hotel is located right next to Plaza Fernandez de Madrid which is buzzing with energy any time of the day. The staff were super friendly and my room was nice and spacious. The lady who served breakfast was very sweet!
In the old city, the hotel is well kept and comfortable with excellent and helpful staff. The breakfasts are incredibly good, with and excellent choice. We would definitely stay here again when we return to Cartagena.
I liked how clean the hotel was every single day. That is probably the best thing about the hotel. I liked the swim pool (considering others in Cartagena is a big one), and I liked the food, which was really nice
The location was great, the property was amazing, really great value for money. Such a beautiful boutique hotel with an amazing rooftop terrace and restaurant! The staff was super friendly too
A lovely stay in a beautiful hotel. The food was great, the staff were responsive - a real boutique stay. Cannot thank the staff enough!
My room was luxurious, beautiful, comfortable. the hotel had a relaxing rooftop to escape the hustle and bustle of Cartagena.
