Colourful and historic, modern and colonial, local and touristic, Cartagena de Indias represents one of the liveliest Colombian beach resorts. Its character mixes cultures and peoples, including natives, Spanish, African and Arab. Its rich legacy granted its Old Town the recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
When the Spanish founded the city in 1533, the region had already been inhabited for thousands of years. It became an important port for the Spanish gold and a significant political centre. Echoes of those times can be seen throughout the historic centre, in the city walls, the San Felipe de Barajas Castle, and the colourful streets and colonial squares. Some of the best hotels in Cartagena de Indias can be found here.

If you can't stand the heat, stay out of Cartagena.
If you can't stand the heat, stay out of Cartagena. It is a beautiful city with very friendly people. The food was terrific, and I have never had any issues with the gastronomy. There are many things to do and see. It is a unique experience. Do your research and plan your outings. If you like history and culture, you will love this city. It would be best if you understood Spanish or used a translation device.

Would not come back. Cartagena is not inexpensive.
Would not come back. Cartagena is not inexpensive. Many of the prices were more than in California. The vendors are extremely aggressive. It is not restful, peaceful or ever quiet. Very difficult to sightsee or relax and enjoy your vacation. There are lots of stray dogs. The beaches are not beautiful, ocean is not crystal clear, no mass transit.

Maria and Morgan are incredibly lovely hosts and their little Boutique Hotel is truly one of a kind. We had an incredible stay here in Cartagena. The rooms are lovely, beautifully decorated with great attention to detail and the staff is very attentive to your wishes and needs (try the delicious pancakes for breakfast!). This was one of our best stays we had during our three weeks in Colombia. Thank you for this great time.
Staff was really great (and all called "Rosa", notably Rosa Roja, Rosa Azul, Rosa Negra). The hotel also helped us out with coordinating the Covid-tests we required for our return trip home. The hotel is located in one of the cutest streets of the old city, and everything was at walking distance from the hotel. Great place to stay when visiting Cartagena!
Casa Ego in Cartagena is a gem that offers an exquisite blend of luxury, comfort, and Colombian charm. Whether you're visiting for leisure or a special occasion, this boutique hotel provides a remarkable experience that captures the essence of Cartagena's vibrant culture and history. Breakfast was delicious.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. Although the hotel was an old house, it was very well-kept and near the heart of the old city. Rooms have aircon, which comes in very handy. Overall was a decent value over money.
The hotel was very well situated in the old city. The rooms were big and well serviced. The food was good with a la carte breakfast including local foods. Staff all very friendly and attentive to our needs.
