Imagine watching the blue waves of the sea with sand between your toes; walking along the palm-lined streets with stretches of rice fields by your side; relaxing in quiet jungle retreats and shopping in energetic local markets. All of these experiences packaged together can be found in a village on the coast of Bali, Canggu.
Canggu is a destination that offers something for all travellers. One of the best things to do here is to sit back, sip a cocktail and relax at one of the many black-sand beaches of the place. Test the waves of the sea by bringing out your surfboards at Berawa Beach. You can learn to or practice yoga here, or unwind with an Indonesian massage. A Canggu visit is incomplete without a trip to the iconic Tanah Lot. Perched on a rock, this temple holds immense cultural importance and is an ideal location for a photoshoot.
Canggu is famous for its delectable local foods as well as its varied global cuisine. Enchant your taste buds with the mixed flavours of Balinese nasi campur (mixed rice) featuring grilled chicken, beef curry along with sambals at Denpasar's Warung Wardani. Spicy fish satay or lilit ikan is charcoal grilled to perfection and is a fine balance of spicy and sweet. Indonesia's all-time favourite, Nasi goreng (fried rice) also needs to be on your list. Topped with a fried egg and served with chicken or beef satay, this dish has the heart of millions of food lovers.

Canggu is a very busy part of Bali.
August 15, 2025
Canggu is a very busy part of Bali. The locals are very friendly with lots to see. Lots of very nice restaurants clise to our stay.Traffic is extremely busy and getting even short distances is difficult due to seriously heavy congestion. We enjoyed our stay but would look at less busy area if you want to travel to the sights to see in Bali

t’s great for a couple of nights, especially as Canggu is quite busy so its not relaxing. The beaches here aren’t as nice as those in other parts of the island. There are some great spots, but you need to do your research, as the area is very spread out—so planning your days is essential. Canggu is ideal for young people who want to go clubbing and party, but it’s not the best destination for scenic beaches. Berawa Beach had quite a bit of rubbish, which was disappointing. That said, I did love riding on GoJek through the rice paddies—it was a beautiful experience.

Canggu is super crowded and there are massive amounts of traffic making it tricky to leave the immediate vicinity. But otherwise, there are lots of eateries and massage/beauty clinics etc. There are also beach clubs but if you're not staying near one, you'll be dealing with a lot of traffic to get to them.

Djabu was a great villa especially for the location! It was very affordable and the reception (Anna) was super helpful and kind with great suggestion to restaurants etc. The only downfall was that our room was at the very end and having 3 big suitcases to push around from reception and on the way back was a bit hard given the footpath was not evenly paved. Other than that overall the villa was great and what we needed during our short stay .

Unless you're a surfer, please avoid Bali and consider going to Huahin (or a similar place in Thailand). The roads are dangerous and terrible, and people's behavior on the roads is shocking. The area is also a bit dirty. The same goes for the food stalls, so we mostly ate at chain restaurants. What a waste of time and money! One thing: Indonesians are friendly and nice people unless they are behind the steering wheel of a car.

Very touristy, the city is not aligned with the overall vibe of Bali. A lot of traffic as well so it becomes difficult to move around during peak hours. I wouldn't go there again, and would prefer spending more time in Uluwatu instead.
