About Tokyo

Including tips for the best time to visit Tokyo

Japan's capital is one of the world's most incredible megacities, with over 13 million residents and a variety of diverse districts. Tokyo's mix of old-world charm and cutting-edge innovation means it has something for everyone.

There's no better place to start experiencing Tokyo's traditions and culture than the ancient temples of Asakusa, the Meiji Shrine (in Harajuku), and Chiyoda's Imperial Palace. An enormous amount of seafood—close to 2,000 tons daily—is traded at the Tsukiji Market, which is also a great place to enjoy a sushi breakfast, before shopping for fresh meat, fruit, vegetables, and flowers.

The city is also home to some great museums like Tokyo's National Museum, which houses a large collection of Japanese art, samurai swords, and colorful kimonos. Film-lovers shouldn't miss the Ghibli Museum, showacsing the work of world-renowned animator Miyazaki Hayao. This space features original sketches, a rooftop garden, and life-size recreations of film sets.

For the best views over the city, take a trip up to the Tokyo Skytree – one of the tallest buildings in the world. The observation deck offers 360-degree views, plus there's a shopping mall and restaurant on other floors below. Then catch a sumo wrestling match in Ryōgoku or visit the rides and attractions at Tokyo Disneyland. Narita Airport is Tokyo's main airport, located 43 miles northeast of the city. The quickest way to travel between them is the Skyliner electric railroad, which takes less than 45 minutes. Some international flights operate from Haneda Airport, though most are domestic.

Our family member is there at Tokyo now.

May 8, 2024

Our family member is there at Tokyo now. James sibling & wife. People who saw us may be shocked bc his twin has identical looks. Very very nice, we enjoyed ourselves 3rd time at this hotel & will absolutely come again. Your young cute & beautiful reservationist was very helpful. I don’t know her name but she was 1st to bring new items & our laundry. She’s should be in top of your staff list because she heard my situation & came by to see me two times. Thank you Doomo Arigato gozaimasu. To all your staff also. Even the young man who was doing the blinking at me at the hotel.

Tokyo is a big city and so much to see. Plan well and dont be too strict with your time because there is so much to take in. Dont be scared to ask the locals for directions and help. Carry cash, eat alot and enjoy the beautiful city.

Public transport is a dream.

May 7, 2024

Public transport is a dream. Fast, organized, clean. We loved the cleanliness. In Europe some citys are already garbige dump. It is nice to see that there is also a city with so many people and streets a clean. The Train stations and trains are clean. People are polite: everybody is folowing the rules. No garbige on the streets, no cigarets, no animal excrement. Very good food. Taxi app is working 100%. Taxi drivers very polite and honest. Not like in some Europe countrys. Very safe!! No crime! Its cheaper then in London and Paris.

The City is very clean and people are very polite.

The City is very clean and people are very polite. We like Tokyo. Food is already fantastic. The things we don't like are it's too crowded and subway station is confusing sometimes. But we wish to revisit Japan in future.

The most amazing city on earth.

May 6, 2024

The most amazing city on earth. Pleasant, charming, organised, busy and quiet, green and buzzling. Tokyo never sleeps and from early morning runs along the Sumida river to late evening strolls between Omotesando and Shibuya, one can be fully entertained around the clock! Favourite spots include hidden secret gardens, quiet rooms at the Tokyo National Museum, and riding the Tokyo Metro (trying to read the ads in Japanese and enjoying the jingles at each station).
