The Nutshell is a unique landmark in West Mersea, and we had longed to have a look inside ever since we first stayed in West Mersea 10 years ago. Thus we took the chance of staying in The Nutshell when we discovered that it was for rent. It is an extremely cosy cottage, the kitchen is well-equipped, from the dining table you can watch people (and dogs) pass by. The harbour is round the corner, good restaurants are close by.

Everything. The house was like walking into a quality show home. We didn't need to bring any toiletries, towels, or bedding. The kitchen was fabulously stocked with tea, coffee, and even a Hotel Chocolat hot chocolate maker ...... and a gorgeous home baked cake greated us on arrival. Also very flexible on check in and departure times.. Just so lovely. We will book again.

The location. The cottage had everything you could think of and was very comfortable. If you enjoy history, quirky but with a modern kitchen and bathroom this is the place. Oh yes, and stunning sunsets. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would hopefully stay there again in the future.

Jamie was an amazing host and prepared a last minute stay for us due to another host failing on us! Island house exceeded our expectations and Jamie and family were amazing. The house was comfortable and spacious with a lovely big garden and driveway. Jamie provided a booklet with everything we needed for our stay at west Mersea island! Would defo recommend to anyone who wants a short family break in a nice quiet island!

This is a lovely property just a 3 minute walk from the seafront. John took extra care to make sure we had all the local information and that we got into the property without any issues. West Mersea itself is lovely and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The Coast Inn, 5 minutes away provided excellent local catch of the day and there are several providers of seafood in the immediate area. Highly recommended for a relaxing stay.

The location was good- nice and close to the little village near by and close to a pub and 2 fish restaurants. We ordered a dessert from the hotel however that did take a little while and the coffee my partner ordered was totally forgotten about. There were some unpleasant guests a few rooms down from us however this was of course not the hotels fault. Overall it was a very pleasant experience and we will be returning at some point.
