Northampton is one of England’s largest towns and has appeared in writing since the 10th century. The large medieval market square has an array of stalls 5 days a week, and nearby are the Market Walk and Grosvenor shopping centres. A larger retail and entertainment site is out of the town centre near Sixfields Stadium, home of Northampton Town FC. The Northampton Saints rugby union team play nearby, and Silverstone is south-west of the M1.
To the east is Billing Aquadrome, a marina complex with go karting, minigolf and a miniature railway. A smaller marina is along the River Nene in Becket’s Park, overlooked by 78 Derngate, a Grade II-listed house redesigned by Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
Other notable buildings are the Guildhall and colonnaded All Saints Church. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre dates to 1100 and is one of England’s largest round churches.
On the outskirts of town, by one of several golf courses, is Delapre Abbey, and to the north are other historic mansions of Coton Manor, Cottesbrooke Hall and the most famous of them all - Althorp House, the final resting place of Princess Diana.
The Northampton accommodation on Booking.com includes hotels with swimming pools, alongside apartment and guest house options near the train station and university.

I formerly lived in Northampton and was staying over night to meet with family. As a town it has changed significantly from my child hood and whilst attractions in the town could be considered limited, there are interesting places to see and it acts a good based to visit other attractions in the surrounding area.

We used to live in Northampton some years back and the changes were a shock to the system. The volume of road works was staggering. More cones and detour’s then the M6 in the 80’s. The town center covered in chewing gum pats everywhere. Most of the big stores had closed down and large shop area closed off.

There are loads of individual shops in Northampton, and not many large chain shops. It is quite a large city centre. There is a large central church - All Saints Church, which is open during the day, and serves refreshments, with lots of outdoor seating. Saint Peters church is another, older building with many interesting features. There is a large bus station very close to the centre of town, and the train station a short walk away. There are plenty of places to eat and drink, with several interesting pubs to choose from.

What I didn't like in Northampton:
What I didn't like in Northampton:
Northampton is a town from the past. Poor quality roads.
I was really disappointed in parking meters - I could not pay for parking by card as all the parking meters required coins. In 2023 that is a big disappointment as I don't use wallets since 2004 and don't have any space for coins.
I could find a parking lot where I could pay online. The website was ancient, like being built 15 years ago.

I am originally from Northampton so know what areas to avoid. I personally wouldn’t want to book a family holiday there. I only stay to visit family.
The billing aquadrome has some nice accommodations on site, however the site is not how it used to be many moons ago. The rides are now very limited, & in the way of family entertainment you would have more fun in Skegness.
Northampton is huge! Very busy! Keep an eye out for those bus lanes 🤦🏽♀️

We lived in the town for 17yrs in our past and it has deterioated ie gone downhill a lot, still to people who have not known what the town was like over 20yrs ago, then they may have a different opinion.
Fantastic peaceful location with well kept grounds and exceptional decor throughout the hotel. Lovely comfortable spacious room very light and airy. Top quality furnishings and fittings. Bathroom was exceptional with a stand alone bath and a great shower. The toiletries were beautiful, luxury towels and plenty of them. Not the cheapest stay but well worth the money
The buildings related to the hotel have been fantastically restored, built in 1594 it has an amazing historical look, also being a listed building adds to its authenticity.
My room was a large double, and my bed was extremely comfortable, the duvet and pillows were perfect, the toiletries were good quality, and overall very good room facilities.
The apartment was clean, warm and comfortable. Security access to the apartment itself was excellent and the covered, secure car park was a welcome bonus. Several good take aways located within a few minutes walk. Northampton station and the town centre are about 10 minutes walk, so very convenient for travel, food and entertainment.
The apartment was clean and spacious.
Hosts were very accommodating and very easy to contact.
Wasn't directly in town which was nice as was quiet but was only a 5-10 min walk to the town centre which was nice :) however there are amenities close by if needed.
WiFi was really good!
Overall we really enjoyed our stay :)
We have stayed at this hotel a few times now and all the other times we have stayed we really enjoyed our stay but not as much this time reason being breakfast was not up to much no cups at breakfast to have a brew and no milk either, bed felt like it would break because everytime you turned over it would make a noise
Excellent spacious apartment equipped with everything you need for a self catering break. Beds were amazingly comfortable and despite being on a busy road noise level was low. Just a few minutes walk into town centre and train station. Great communication with our host. Would definitely stay if we’re in the area again!
Very economic and better than expected with excellent breakfast and tea /coffee making TV/Wifi all usual facilities found in room. Consider this a good budget hotel and good for the price. Very handy for town / colledge etc
Staff were very friendly. It was clean. Location was brill, 10 mins walk to town..Breakfast was better than expected it was full English rather than continental. Parking was easy, plenty of space. Definitely would go again.
All in all good quality Hotel well located to Northampton town centre.
Excellent value for money.
Superb breakfast.
Clean and comfortable throughout, family run personal service. Very highly recommended.
Loved the views around the hotel. Bedroom was extremely comfortable, probably the best night sleep I have had in any hotel.
Good choice for breakfast, was offered use of the spa but didn't get round to it.
A wonderful guest house situated just outside Northampton Town Centre. The facilities were great and included a large refrigerator, microwave, a superb shower and en-suite and an excellent double room.
Room was lovely and bed very comfy. On arrival lovely lady on reception who was very helpful.
Also close the town centre only a short walk or buses were available just outside hotel and every 10mins
Staff were super friendly greeting us! The room was bright and spacious and the beds extremely comfy. Located in the city centre so easy to go out for the evening and just walk back to the hotel.
Location was good for access to Northampton. Beautiful setting. Good size room. Nice decor in public areas. Leisure facilities available but I didn't get to use them.
