Famous for its association with Robin Hood, Nottingham is in the very heart of England. The outlaw’s legend lives on, with many city streets and buildings named after him and his Merry Men. A Robin Hood statue sits at the foot of Nottingham Castle, on a small hill with historic pubs built into it. Also cut into the rock are visitable caves extending under the city.
The Old Market Square is the largest in the UK and becomes a city beach in the summer, with rides and a small pool. Permanent fixtures are the impressive Council House with its Exchange Arcade shops, and the several Nottingham hotels with parking in the surrounding area.
During the 19th century, Nottingham was an important lace-making centre and many Victorian warehouses and buildings remain in the Lace Market area. Neighbouring Hockley is home to the National Ice Centre and independent shops, while the biggest shopping centres are Broadmarsh and the Victoria Centre.
In the western suburbs, by Nottingham University, Wollaton Park surrounds an Elizabethan stately home, while east of Trent Bridge cricket ground is the National Water Sports Centre in Holme Pierrepont. Sherwood Forest, Robin’s stomping ground, is near Mansfield, while East Midlands Airport is south-west of Long Eaton.

“The owner of the hotel is a very nice helpful man”
“Beds was comfortable and very nice homely lounge”
“Friendly staff and she had a beautifully smile:) the location of the hotel is good and central of where I needed to be. I really enjoyed my walk around the park across the road.”
“The staff - particularly the guy and girl who was looking after the hotel on 29th April - 1st may were extremely polite and helpful and genuinely cared that your stay was good. Breakfast - I paid extra for this but well worth it as a lot of food for the price. It's the first hotel outside the university campus. It takes about 10mins to walk to the campus and 20mins further to the East Midlands conference centre in the university campus. Pleasant walk but also lots of buses going to the city centre or into the university campus. For the price it is good, safe, clean and nice staff.”
“Parking was excellent a bit of a maze to actually find hotel because of one way system”
“The room was great with it's own facilities to cook and even use a microwave. Great position in the city centre and I would recommend to everyone I know .. You must stay here!!”
“Couldn't fault any of my stay, from location, staff, the room. Great service. Will be coming back when visiting a concert again”
“We really liked the location and quality of this hotel. Our first room was too noisy as it was next to the boiler room or something, but we were immediately moved upon our request. And the room we got was excellent.”
“Nothing bad to say fantastic location lovely apartment comfortable bed (makes a change) There was an event on at the arena didn't even notice noise until we opened balcony door next stay already booked :-)”
“Shirley on the front desk was fantastic, worked her backside off to make sure everyone was taken care off quickly. The rooms were massive and to location is spot on for the city centre.”
“The room was clean and comfortable, the staff were friendly, helpful and polite and the food was amazing.”
“5 star staff - friendly , helpful”
“The hotel was gorgeous and comfortable. And far more than what I expected for how much I paid.”
“close to city and tourist attractions beautiful old world hotel best breakfast we had all month”
“After reading all the bad reviews I was left worried about our stay however I was very surprised. Beds waa comfortable, hotel was very spacious, brilliant city centre location, very clean rooms, nice little toiletries and staff on reception and at breakfast were fantastic! Lots of variety at breakfast! Thanks for a lovely stay.”
“Location, near to Rock City and city centre, car parking joined to hotel. Large airy bar, good afternoon bar food, comfortable room. Staff helpful and polite. Check out at 12.00 gives time for walk into centre in the morning, car park ticket validated to midnight so possible to check out, load car and then lunch/site see/shop before leaving, Good selection at breakfast, always like an egg chef on hand for an omelette.”
“The staff were friendly, polite and helpful. The hotel was clean and had everything you need. The decor was fabulous, very funky. The St. James has a really central location, right in the heart of Nottingham City Centre. The beds were really comfortable and the classic bedrooms were a good size. Enjoyed spending time in the bar, again great decor and good service.”
“Highly recommended! Very close to the train station, bus station and City centre! Helpful staff and comfortble rooms :) Free WIFI in the rooms and throughout the hotel. Will Definetly stay there again!”
“The hotel decor is a bit worn out, but it is clean, the rooms are quite big and it is the best value for money in Nottingham city centre. The cooked breakfast is usually very good too.”
