Jerash is much smaller and quieter than Amman.
Jerash is much smaller and quieter than Amman. But you will get to meet people like the operator of the 511 grocery or other markets, the owner of the property, and people say hello all the time. A short trip to Ajloun and you see a Byzantine castle. In between is Souf, a small town with many shops. The ruins were spectacular.
The ruins were spectacular. I thoroughly recommend taking 3-5 hours for them. The area is also a good getaway for North Jordan. You can enjoy cheap local food in Jerash. I found a nice shawarma place 5 minutes walk from the ruins. It was called: داريا للمطاعم جرشGuest review byTomaszPoland - 10.0

Jerash archeological site is huge and worth visiting, spectacular views, whole streets with columns, temple of Zeus and Artemis. Probably more interesting details could be received from local guide, but all explanation posts are in place. Take 2L of water per person, especially during summer time and ignore local mercenaries inside. Jerash the hisotry park: if you have any real interest in Roman architecture, reserve the whole day to appreciate everything the huge park has. More to see than Petra on a smaller footprint. The hotel is conveniently located on the northern side of the Jerash ruins, with the entrance gate just a short walk away. To top it off, the owner kindly drove me back to Amman after my stay.
