The room was exceptionally clean, brand new bathroom, comfortable temperature, cosy beds. I love the smell of the shampoo and shower gel! We got a room with balcony, and it was really handy to be able to smoke on the balcony, and not to go all the way down to the entrance. They have vending machines with crisps and drinks, that came really handy at 2 am when coming back from partying! Breakfast was great, lots of selection, loved the tuna salad and the freshly baked loaf of breads.

What a jewel of a hotel! There are only 6 rooms - each decorated totally individually and uniquely. The house is from the 1800's, and was a labour of love to restore and repurpose. I chose the hotel originally not only because of location and price, but because it has a lift - a real bonus anywhere in Dutch cities (other than the big chain hotels). The lift has been ingeniously fitted into the house - fits one human and a suitcase, but certainly does what it is intended for. We had rooms on the first floor, so only used the lift for the luggage. The stairs and narrow and steep - it is Holland, after all! Our hosts - I cannot say staff- were not only pleasant, but truly happy that we were guests. The continental breakfast was original, fresh, and served oh so beautifully either at the communal dining table, in the kitchen area itself, or in the conservatory behind the kitchen, with a view of the garden. There were tables and umbrellas in the garden, and a safe place for cycles. Parking is available, but expensive, and is on the street - if you're lucky, right at the door. The house faces the outer "Singel" canal, and it's a very short stroll into the inner old city, which is enclosed by that canal. Hosts are only there to greet guests until 6 pm, so you need to plan for that. We awoke to the smell of fresh cinnamon buns...how decadent! We didn't meet the owners, but Julie (above and beyond, guiding us in by telephone when my smart phone went on strike ), Piet, Jesse and Daphne were formidable ambassadors for them. If you are lucky enough to stay at this property - give them our kind regards!

    The staff were very helpful, friendly and happy to speak English. We were given a room at the back of the hotel as the front could have been quite noisy as it is adjacent to a busy road. Towards the end of our stay we noticed some damp on the ceiling of our bedroom below the air conditioning. We reported the situation and reception were swift to investigate. Unfortunately the situation worsened overnight to a 'drip' and the following morning the hotel were able to move us to another room on the same floor without any problem.

    The location was great for us and our dog. Had the weather been better, it would have lots of walking areas and scenery nearby for our puppy. The hotel itself was of the highest order. Great service, fantastic breakfast selection and quality, and a spotless room with brilliant facilities.
