Not a great deal to do or see in Oita. The castle ruins holds some interest. A very friendly man in a temporary office in the car park helpfully explained more about the castle and it's moats. Could use Oita as a base for visiting Beppu if you can't get accommodation there By train it's only 280 yen and 12 minutes away.

Oita is an amazing getaway for Onsen lovers.
Oita is an amazing getaway for Onsen lovers. There is so much nature to be a part of. I would recommend every part of Oita, especially Beppu to all nature lovers. Do try the sand bath in Beppu and visit the Jigoku Meguri - 7 natural hot springs.

It was a great spot and great place for backpackers.
It was a great spot and great place for backpackers. THe room is just right for individuals and has tea. The hotspring and the suana is a added attraction to the hotel that was nice. Its not close to the main station but still a great spot about 15 minutes walk from the main station. They do have sandles and a robe for you in the room so look for it.

Oita is amazing. There is so much to see and do. I recommend going to the castle ruins near the station. The staff are all volunteers and they are so friendly. We for the opportunity to try on a samurai outfit and make origami. You can get some great food at the station, if you want a variety and to try what the locals eat.

Oita is a prefecture within Kyushu that is rarely referenced by travellers outside those who chase onsens, and although that may be a selling point, there are a plethora of places the prefecture has to offer that highlight its fascinating history and warm hospitality.
More than just hot springs, Oita boasts a rugged, untamed countryside just waiting to be explored. Want to know where to find it? Ask a local they happily shown off the secretive beauty of this prefecture they call home.
A short flight from any major city, Oita is nestled on the edge of Honshu and Shikoku, the top right-hand area of Kyushu. Landing at the airport, you’re greeted with oversized sushi rotating along the baggage claim carousel; it’s a taste of the quirky sense of humour the people of Kyushu love.
The hotel is well situated in Oita City in close proximity to the train station and covered shopping gallery. The breakfast had a good variety of dishes and were clearly marked with common allergens. The room was spacious and clean. We were lucky enough to be on the 17th floor and had a great view of the bay, mountains, and the city below. Staff were helpful and kind.
Conveniently located at the Oita Station, we thought it was a great stay. The hotel lobby is on the 8th floor of the AMU Building (department store). If you are traveling by train or bus, we highly recommend! Convenient stores like Lawson and breakfast places like Mr. Donut are nearby. Staff were friendly and we would come back there again.
Great hotel next to the train and bus stations. Wonderful Japanese/Western buffet breakfast served very efficiently. Appreciated the coin laundry and bathes. Rooms were compact, clean, and had all the usual amenities of a Japanese hotel. Plenty of restaurants and conveniences stores close by if you are hungry.
It was not far away from the train station and places with food.

This is our second time staying at this hotel. The staff were friendly and very helpful with our requests. The breakfast was very nice too. The room is a little small for two people but it's in a convenient location and it was quiet for us.
Staff was very helpful and they kept mineral water every day in our room. We could send post easily from hotel itself, they gave us box too. Lawson was also right in 1st floor. Free coffee and teabags were provided on lobby.
Hotel located in a central location of Oita, immediately near covered walking street / gallery with plenty of restaurants and shops nearby. Walking distance from one major shopping mall and railway station.
Staffs were very nice. They were ready to help and answer our questions. The hotel surrounded with restaurants, shopping street and convenience stores. Welcome drink was a plus :)
