The bungalow was very nice, bigger than I expected and with a bathroom for each bedroom. The garden outside the bungalow was also beautiful, and I really appreciated the water filter. Breakfast in the morning was simple but delicious, and the staff was so helpful.

This hotel is amazing. In the middle of a busy city, Hotel Colomba is set in peaceful, beautiful gardens, securely behind high walls. 100% recommend Zarela’s. The owner was wonderful. She had wonderful recommendations on places to hike and good restaurants to eat at, along with just being a fun person to talk with. She was there at 6am to let me in and give me my room after an overnight bus ride to Huaraz. She even makes you a full French press of coffee every morning. Accommodations were very relaxing and comfortable

Fantastic location, easy to access, amazing views of Huascaran Park just behind the town! Desk staff were extremely helpful and friendly (even brought us up hot tea to our room about half an hour after we checked in 🥰), breakfast was made fresh for us, and we were even made some Muna tea (helps with altitude) when we mentioned my husband was having some gut issues! Would absolutely stay here again!!

Really interesting city with great options for visiting a number of natural and historical sites: 2.5 hours to Chavin de Huantar, 2 hours to glaciers and mountain lakes. The city is teeming with travel operators to take you there - there are also colectivos at your own risk. Lots of restaurants of various cuisines, including both tourist-focused places and more local ones. We even found some good vegetarian options - especially at Paulino's Indian and Casa de Zarela Thai.

Like Cusco and Lima, it was a crowded city of aggressive drivers constantly honking and spewing exhaust. Prices were higher than Cusco with less souvenir shopping. Maybe choose a place a little outside the town or another town that is closer to most of the day trips--it'll save u bus time too.

Huaraz is a great location as a base for mountaineering and hiking. At an altitude of 3000m you can retain your acclimatization there. There is a good supermarket Trujillo where you can get most food for the mountains, good restaurants with nice artisanal beer, stores with basic hiking equipment and gas. The town is chaotic but in a nice kind of way and seems to be safe.

A great base for trips out to the surrounding mountains.
A great base for trips out to the surrounding mountains. Lots of great trekking with stunning views and such a different range of scenery. Snow and ice with glaciers, or big crevasse strewn hills, or stunning big valleys with views over Huaraz. Lots of outdoor shops, lots of good places to eat and doesn't feel at all touristy.

Not really a nice city.
Not really a nice city. There is the Museum in the center of the city worth seing, with a garden of (real) Chavin stones.
Food is terrible. Almost all restaurants, expensive or unexpensive, only serve fried stuff with fried potatoes and eventually a sallad that I would not dare to eat. Alternatives are pizzas and pastas. But one does not travell up to the mountains to eat such kind of commercial food and so heavy.
We took a private car for a city tour at 5 p.m. He took us to various places. Interesting. We asked him if there was something to do in the evenings, like a cinema or a theater, and he said there was nothing going on like that in Huaraz.
It is a place to stop for starting a several days trip mounaineering or mountain walks, like to the mountains, or in our case we planned a 2 days trip to Chavin de Huantar (archeaology and nature).
People in Huaraz are generally speaking quite hostile, even locals to each other, prices are higher than in Lima (apparently there is much money circulating as the result of all the the mines around), service in restaurants and cafes is quite bad. What is offered, is in most cases is not what they really have once you start to order. If you have to go to Huaraz for starting your trip to the mountains or elsewhere, take it relaxed, stay cool, don`t expect too much and you will notice some little cool details here and there.
We had a car and so we really enjoyed the location away from the city. It was a pleasure waking up every morning and seeing the stunning views of the mountains. The roof is amazing, at night the sky is beautiful and sunsets and sunrise are breath taking😍 Seniora Rosa was so nice! She helped us with everything we needed, including recommending where to go for a trip that matched our needs. We had hot water for best shower and we cooked our own food. So good after long weeks of hotels. Enjoy!
Our stay was absolutely amazing. We ended up staying at Lhotse for a whole week! We felt like home! Besides having a comfortable room, with a hot shower and a good bed, they also have great common areas to relax and socialise. The Rooftop is perhaps the best spot in the whole hostel with wesome views of the mountains around Huaraz. The kitchen was immaculate and very well equipped. Breakfast was simple, but still we had variety from day to day. The staff was so attentive and friendly.

Excellent check-in and check-out times, perfect when you just arrived in Huaraz with the night bus. During our stay for 7 mornings, didn't get the same breakfast once. Wifi worked perfectly in our room. Cool view on the rooftop. Great tips from the host for hiking trips, and in which order these should best take place. Very nice and friendly staff. The laundry service of the place is ready the same day in the evening.
Excellent service. The host makes you feel at home. Plus, the place is amazing. It's pet friendly and if you are planning to stay there just to relax it's the best option. It's away from the chaos of the city... A really peaceful retreat.
Going downtown is just a van away so the lodge offers that practical aspect.
If you are looking for a place to relax and enjoy peace and quiet, this is the place to choose.
First i have to say that the hosting Family was very kind and nice. We are Vegetarians and sometimes tired of searching for Restaurants so we often cook for ourselves and search for accomodation with kitchen. In this Hotel the kitchen was outstanding. Everything new and very clean. The whole Hotel was very clean and tidy. Also we could store our things while we we're hiking.
One of my favorite places
Genuinely kind and helpful owners
Mountain viewpoint and hammock area
Well equipped kitchen
Very comfortable bed, nice decor, many places to hang out and sit in the property
Close to Huaraz city and many great hikes with public transit
Close to many delicious and affordable restaurants and stores
Close to hot springs
Daily cleaning
My main advice to my friends visiting Huaraz - stay here. Chris (the owner) is extremely friendly and has so much local knowledge. I was able to plan all my trips with him. The hostel is really clean and cosy - with a fireplace, great beds and huge terrace to chill and watch the sunset. In my 3+ months traveling, Chris has been the best host. Thank you :)
The value for money is awesome! I think I did not stay anywhere in Peru as cheap and good. The rooms are only with three people. Both the room and the bathroom are very clean. The breakfast is good and changes everyday. The staff is also very nice and the prices for the tours I booked were even cheaper than in other places around Huaraz.
I really enjoyed and liked my staying in El Jacal.
The rooms were always clean and organized. Breakfast good. It’s close to the city center.
Ricardo (the owner) was SUPER kind and helpful with me.
I got a credit card issue and he helped me a lot.
I’m super grateful for this experience in Huaraz and highly recommend!!!!!
The staff was very helpful and kind, specially Hisao. We were able to book tracks very easely at the hotel reception. Hisao has a great knowledge about the area in Huaraz and the surrounding and so he was able to help us much. The breakfast was extensive and delicious.
the staff was exceptional! the host attended to our every need, giving us thoughtful recommendations on hikes and adventures best suited to our needs. A nice breakfast was served every morning along with information to our vast curiosity of the area.
There's nothing to complain about the room and hotel itself, but what makes this place really awesome is the host Carlos. He's not only super helpful with organizing tours at the last minute, but also just a great and warm hearted person.
The big room,
The big shower room with hot shower(the hot temperature that was different from Cusco),
The Best staffs who responded 24/7
Warm bread for the first time in Peru
There's reason why this hostel is well known to tourists
The Family is the most lovely in my whole travel around Peru, they really do their best to make you happy. The breakfast is just amazing and they prepare what you like. The price and the quality is really good. Would come back
Akilpo home was the best choice staying in Huaraz. The host, Esteban, is a pro of giving you the best advice where to hike or what to do in the city. If you're here for the mountains & hiking, it's the place to stay.
