My only suggestion is don't do the day trip. I arrived a day and a half before my tour, hung out in the village, then stayed 2 days after. Did the hot springs twice. It was the perfect length, 4 full days
The best place on earth. *Good hiking trail, nature at it's best and a breath of fresh air. The best spot is from the classic photo view spot. *Restaurants in 'Aguas Caliente' offer menu (as it is called) for an affordable price and you can pick something interesting from the menu (which maybe more expensive) if you want. *Getting to Machu Picchu depends on you: via train which leaves from either POROY or Ollantaytambo. Train cost about 65 dollars for foreigners and less than 4 dollars for locals (including residents irrespective of your nationalities). *Avoid procrastination :)
Great place and the hike up from Aguas Calientes makes the visit even more spectacular. To fully enjoy and respect the historical achievement of the initial inhabitants a hike up is the way to go. Just be careful of the weather, changes all the time and can become slippery.
Getting on the first bus was great. Although I imagine getting the 2nd or 3rd would have been pretty similar too so don't stress too much. We had tickets for the mountain too which meant we lost the option of a tour guide after as it's a one way system and trekking up the mountain took hours and was very intense. I recommend deciding on doing either a guided tour of Machu pichu or climbing one of the mountains - there isn't really time for both.
Machu picchu is amazing - rains 25 days a month during rainy season so be prepared, ponchos are a big seller. Generally time slots are now 4 hours only, and circuit to walk is one way - we would have liked to go back higher to get some more photos but unable to. I would recommend avoiding Aguas Calientes, stay at Ollantaytambo and get the early train, spend 4-6hrs at macchu pichu and get the train back.
Machu Picchu was breathtaking and much larger than I expected. You could spend a full day roaming the place (except that they do not have toilet facilities after the entrance). Although it's crowded, there are many places to veer off and take a picture of yourself feeling like you're on top of the world. Bonus = llamas.
Machu Picchu
We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Retama MachuPicchu. The location is central to everything in Aguas Calientes, nevertheless, they pick you up from the train station upon arrival. Vivian was remarkably sweet and accomodating, answering all our questions, ensuring that we had breakfast before our early departure to Machu Picchu, and just generally being extremely helpful the entire time. The accomodations were very clean and comfortable, and overall just a very "homey" feel. Overall we would highly recommend staying with them.
The stuff was amazing. Speacilly the girl Seisa, who studies medicine and work at the same time. She recommended me a lot about Machu Picchu and the Cusco city. I couldn't have breakfast at the day of my Machu Picchu visit. But after that when I came back to the hotel to pick my backpack, Seisa prepared me a breakfast to go. I liked my stay in hotel Encanto.
The Staff was amazing!! We visited Machu Picchu and stayed 2 days. The room service and staff where amazing!!! It was my daughters birthday and they even had a beautiful gift for her. I can only say this place is amazing. 5 star service. Thank you Karen hotel manager. Thank you from the Narvaez Family.
I liked almost everything about the hotel. It was very new and fairly clean. The hot water was amazing. Both staffs were kind and accommodating to our needs and questions. You can also store your luggage for your Machu Picchu hike, even when the checkout time is 11 am. Just need to ask the staff.
Machu Picchu
The hotel is very near the train station and offers a comfortable room space to spend your night when you want to visit Machu Picchu. It was also nice that the receptionist came to pick us up at the train station. But that was almost all for the positive points of this hotel
what an amazing place to stay !!! the location is unbeatable few steps from the main entrance of Macchu Picchu staff of the Hotel extremely amazing and so , so helpful , we arrive early to take our tour to the sanctuary and they store our suitcase and backpacks
This is a brand new family run hotel and we enjoyed it a whole lot. Really nice family and one of our favorite places we’ve stayed in Peru. Our room overlooked the river, which in rainy season was quite high and was amazing to look at.
We had a challenging situation due to strikes around Cusco, our train got canceled and the staff was extremely supportive and very kind to us. We highly recommend this place. The hotel is super nice, clean, and comfortable.
Machu Picchu
The rooms were very confortable and clean. Wilson was very nice waiting for us at the train station when we arrive and walked us to the hotel also he let us stay in the lobby waiting for the train to return to Ollantaytambo.
The staff was nice and the hotel is clean and comfortable! we had a great time and delicious breakfast. They kept our bags while we went toMachu Pichu and met with us at the train station! great service!
Machu Picchu
The hotel is just 100m from the station, the owner is great, really attentive and will support your experience to Machu Picchu with lots of informations and an early breakfast before start the visit !!
Sophia was a great help for our travels, always there to help and met us at the train station which was great to have someone there to help. Great asset to the hotel.
Guest Services The hotel allowed us to late check out only after visiting Machu Picchu without us requesting it and showing that they are worried about guests.
There was no one except us who checked into the hotel. Air in the front lobby was stale. It was little concerning.
Good hotel for Machu Picchu with decent sized rooms.
This place was remarkable!!! They updated our stay because my fiance proposed at Machu Picchu and they gave us a phenomenal view of the mountain side. The breakfast was spectacular and it came with our stay. They placed chocolate covered strawberries in the room as well and spoke about the area and what there was to do near by. They also helped us with our train arrangements as well as our tour arrangements of the mountain. Everything was sanitized and cleaned to covid standards and Maria (the Concierge) as well as the rest of the staff were so kind and so amazing. Remarkable
Machu Picchu
This hotel is just near the train station/central craft market of Aguas Calientes - a 3 minute walk. It's right in the center of this small tourist town. It's quite new, it's in excellent condition, it's clean, it's quiet, and the staff was very helpful. They allowed me to store my backpack in town all day long after checking out without hesitation. The breakfast is also good. It was probably the best hotel I stayed in for the cost in all of Peru. Highly recommended!
Great position, not far from the station and also to the local village
Magical setting in nature reserve
