Machu Picchu was breathtaking. We enjoyed our hike up Machu Picchu Mountain and our sightseeing tour of the ruins. The views were phenomenal. We stayed at the Runas Inn and that was an incredible value for our stay. The staff was supportive and helpful. We would highly recommend. Even in the winter Aqua Calientes can get quite warm so layers while exploring and hiking are key--by noon you can wear shorts in July!
My only suggestion is don't do the day trip. I arrived a day and a half before my tour, hung out in the village, then stayed 2 days after. Did the hot springs twice. It was the perfect length, 4 full days
The best place on earth. *Good hiking trail, nature at it's best and a breath of fresh air. The best spot is from the classic photo view spot. *Restaurants in 'Aguas Caliente' offer menu (as it is called) for an affordable price and you can pick something interesting from the menu (which maybe more expensive) if you want. *Getting to Machu Picchu depends on you: via train which leaves from either POROY or Ollantaytambo. Train cost about 65 dollars for foreigners and less than 4 dollars for locals (including residents irrespective of your nationalities). *Avoid procrastination :)
Great place and the hike up from Aguas Calientes makes the visit even more spectacular. To fully enjoy and respect the historical achievement of the initial inhabitants a hike up is the way to go. Just be careful of the weather, changes all the time and can become slippery.
Getting on the first bus was great. Although I imagine getting the 2nd or 3rd would have been pretty similar too so don't stress too much. We had tickets for the mountain too which meant we lost the option of a tour guide after as it's a one way system and trekking up the mountain took hours and was very intense. I recommend deciding on doing either a guided tour of Machu pichu or climbing one of the mountains - there isn't really time for both.
Machu picchu is amazing - rains 25 days a month during rainy season so be prepared, ponchos are a big seller. Generally time slots are now 4 hours only, and circuit to walk is one way - we would have liked to go back higher to get some more photos but unable to. I would recommend avoiding Aguas Calientes, stay at Ollantaytambo and get the early train, spend 4-6hrs at macchu pichu and get the train back.
Machu Picchu
We were met at the train station, escorted to buy bus tickets for Machu Picchu the next morning if we hadn't already (we hadn't and the place was about to close) and to find something to eat. The personal touch was really appreciated! We had a bag breakfast/lunch waiting for us the next morning when we left the hotel at 5am to wait on line for the shuttle to Machu Picchu. The hotel was only 5 minutes walk from the end of the line. They also offered to store our daypack for us
Machu Picchu
The hotel is located right near the train station so it was easy to get to and there was no giant hill to climb! The wifi was great. The shower was the best shower we had on our trip. They packed us a little bagged breakfast/ lunch on the day we left early for Machu Picchu and wouldn't be around for the breakfast. Our room overlooked the staircase and it was surprisingly quiet. I wish we were here longer because I liked the hotel and the town!
Hotel staff came to greet us to take us to hotel. It was Lucio he was courteous, prompt. He Carrie’s our bags up the hill of Aguas Calientes. I was very impressed particularly with Lucio. He also was on the breakfast room. He took care of all of our requests. Lucio thank you you made our stay even happier. We highly recommend this hotel! Clean, delicious breakfast made to order great location. ATM next door and shopping
Machu Picchu
We arrived late in the night and used this hotel just to sleep for one night before going to Machu Picchu early inthe morning. For travelers with a similar plan, the hotel is a very good choice: very friendly and helpful staff which gave us useful tips for Machu Picchu, comfy beds, and the possibility of packing breakfast (for early birds) and leaving the luggage while exploring MP. The location is fantastic as well.
The hotel is very well located and the staff is super helpful. Clean bedroom, hot water. They picked us at the train station, prepared our breakfast "to go" as we had to leave very early to machu picchu. Overall, the cost-benefit for a 1-night is very, very good.
The staff are very kind. Hotel very close to the train station. I got lost in the market area and called them, Julio came to get me & walked me to the hotel. Great location close to many restaurants & bus to Machu Picchu. Breakfast good.
The family that runs the hotel was super accommodating. They are so sweet and go out of their way to make sure you are happy with your stay. The breakfast was so good! Ask for the quinoa pancakes - you won’t be disappointed.
Most comfortable stay we had in Peru! Nice hotel, with good facilities and a friendly staff. Good breakfast, which opens at 05:00 AM for early Machu Picchu visitors.
Machu Picchu
Nice location next to the creek. I liked the layout of the hotel. The entrance area is tasteful and nice. Our room was also quite good.
Very nice and clean hotel, friendly staff. Hot showers. They let us leave our backpacks in the hotel while we climbed the Machu Picchu.
Machu Picchu
I love the uniqueness of this hotel. it is on a lovely hill. the owner is very nice.
Excellent location of hotel & also views.
This place was remarkable!!! They updated our stay because my fiance proposed at Machu Picchu and they gave us a phenomenal view of the mountain side. The breakfast was spectacular and it came with our stay. They placed chocolate covered strawberries in the room as well and spoke about the area and what there was to do near by. They also helped us with our train arrangements as well as our tour arrangements of the mountain. Everything was sanitized and cleaned to covid standards and Maria (the Concierge) as well as the rest of the staff were so kind and so amazing. Remarkable
The spa facilities Excursions Communal areas bar and dining were staffed with extreme attention Also with the start of the covid19 restrictions my flight was cancelled. With my limited spanish the staff at reception were absolutely amazing in helping to schedule another one.
