We messed up our communication and did not get tickets to Machu Picchu. Do your research and purchase tickets BEFORE you arrive…months in advance for high season. Nevertheless we toured the archeological wonders of the Sacred Valley— Temples of the sun and moon and more. It was very spiritually powerful and architecturally awe inspiring, did not feel like a consolation prize for missing MP…. Just a reason to come back. Do not miss this tour if you are hire… and hire the guide. It’s worth it. Food was great here too.

We loved this town. In total we stayed 3 nights. And would've preferred to stay another night instead of returning to Cusco. The restaurants are plenty and good, the people are so nice, and the coffee shops are nice. Hiking all around, and the ruins and market are enjoyable. Both walking everywhere is good and getting a taxi is also easy.

We decided to go there straight from Cusco to be better acclimatized before heading to Machu Picchu. We visited sites like the salt mines along the way to Ollantaytambo and stayed in Cusco at the end of our trip. Our accommodation host Alex did all of the arranging and was super helpful. Ollantaytambo was a great start to our trip. A very safe town full of culture that is easy to get around. The Inca sun temple was definitely worth visiting and we highly recommend getting one of the guides who will explain all of the significances of the site. Highly recommend visiting Ollantaytambo and where we stayed. It was a great start to our vacation!

This small town between Cusco and Aguas Calientes is the perfect spot to get acclimated to high altitude, enjoy excellent restaurants and coffee shops, buy beautiful art and jewelry, learn from the Inca culture, and relax after visiting Machu Picchu. We stayed 2 nights and it was just perfect!

Meet your Inca Trail group in Ollantaytambo and visit Cusco afterwards. Your tour will likely leave/start in Cusco - tell them you want to be picked up in Ollantaytambo. This way you will get an extra hour sleep and slightly later pick up AND you should be able to leave your bags where you stay to pick up post trek and on the way out of Ollantaytambo to Cusco. Local ruins are fantastic and walkable from anywhere in the town to visit at your convenience, 2 nights is plenty to visit the ruins and have a few delicious meals!

The ruins are within walking distance and definitely worth a visit. Lots of good bars and restaurants too choose from. Walking to the center of town is not great due to a lack of sidewalks and cars that drive too fast.

Picaflor Tambo is in a quiet neighborhood, and a short hike to amazing ruins starts near their entrance. Diego met us at the central plaza on our arrival. Picaflor Tambo combines ancient Inca ruins with modern style and conveniences. Diego arranged tours and advised us of events, restaurants, etc. Delicious breakfast buffet was included and Diego brought a thermos of hot water and selection of teas to room nightly. We added nights to our stay because Picaflor Tambo is such a wonderful guest house, and we enjoyed Ollantaytambo so much.

The restaurant/cafe in the hotel was fantastic and the staff at the hotel were very friendly. It had a nice garden that could be seen from the room. The biggest perk is probably that the location was very convenient and secure if you were arriving and leaving by train as the entrance is inside the train station, and entry is restricted to passengers with tickets and hotel guests. There's an adjacent farm you can get a tour and lunch at; seemed like fun if you had the time for it.

Lovely quiet hotel on the edge of Ollantaytambo. Walking distance from the train station for Machu Picchu. Comfortable bed, decent shower, and a fantastic breakfast. Biker friendly! Incredibly generous host let me leave my motorcycle and bags at the hotel for two days while I visited Machu Picchu. Amazing.

Excellent choice for Ollantaytambo, great location, good breakfast, friendly and helpful staff that arranged taxis etc for us. Room might feel a bit chilly, but certainly not under the blankets. Only problem was the roosters waking you up at 5-6 am, but not the hotels fault!

It’s very centrally located - 10mins to the Machu Picchu train station and 5mins from the central square where all the restaurants are. There’s a table in the garden where you can have your coffee after breakfast. We had the room facing the Inca ruins which was very cool.
