Ollantaytambo is a charming city to relax the first days after a long travel, get over a jet lag, get used to higher altitude. There were also a lot of trekking people. I had dinner at the restaurants at the square, plenty there. The town is tiny; mostly the main square, so easy to get an overview. There are also some ruins, if you want to start on the cultural part of Peru. I would plan my days a bit better, as life is going by slower than at home. Suddenly the day had gone, I felt I had done nothing.
Ollantaytambo was a great little town. We stayed 1 night. In hindsight we would have spent 2 nights there. Hostal Iskay was very nice - we would highly recommend it. We explorer the old store houses on one side of town the first day and the Inca temple and fortress the 2nd day. All within walking distance. We enjoyed lunches and dinners at restaurants around the plaza. There was a nice variety of little shops and places to eat.
Didnt have enough time for exploring. Favorite place to eat was Apu Veronica. Hiked opposite hill of the ruins..nice break from all the people. Please explore the ruins down below the football field..a lovely walk and off the main road.
Ollantaytambo has the best Inca ruins in Peru, second only to Machu Picchu. Peru calls it a city of living history, and the pride in the Quechua heritage inspires the community celebrations. The Inca ruins are a block from the central plaza and are incredible. Other ruins are on the opposite hillside overlooking the beautiful valley and glaciated mountain peaks in the distance. There are great hikes along the Urubamba river running through town and local people were welcoming and helpful.
Uber charming village surrounded by mountains and ruins. The main ruins are fantastic - great to do with a guide to get the history and detailed info. Also visited the Quelloraqay ruins 450 metres from town. Several great, longer hikes are on the doorstep but unfortunately we didn't have time - I think it would be a great place to spend 3-4 days just for the day hikes. Had dinner and lunch at Apu Veronica - delicious Peruvian food - recommend the alpaca brochettes and trout served on sizzling hot stones. The fresh organic salads on the side were also a treat.
This was an absolutely idyllic place to stay. The view alone of the ruins and mountains just outside of town make it worth any cost which is totally reasonable. Plus the owners are some of the kindest, warmest, and most accomodating I've ever met (plus speaks both English and Spanish)!
The property is perfectly located in the city near the Ruins, at 10 min walking distance from the train station, and with some good restaurants near by (Apu Veronica for example). Derek is an amazing host providing a 5 stars service for his guests. He woke up very early morning to prepare us a breakfast before taking the train. There are little details that makes the difference for a traveler (hospitality, availability,...) I recommend to stay there because you cannot find better deals.
The woman at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. She let us store our bags here for free so we didn’t have to take them to Machu Picchu even though we only stayed here one night. She says it’s a service she provides with the room. She also had breakfast waiting for us so that we could quickly make an egg sandwich and eat it on our walk to the train station.
Good location, 5mins walk to ollantaytambo ruins entrance, 3mins walk to main square, 15min walk to train station. Stuffs are very friendly and helpful. breakfast is great! And the living area is beautiful, with fantastic mountain view and beautiful stars in evening . Hot water is okay even in late night. warm and comfortable bed. really good hotel.
The staff at Intitambo hotel was unbelievably kind and accommodating. We had a lot of early morning tours and they made us feel very comfortable and taken care of. Ollantaytambo was the first destination on our trip and couldn't be happier for starting off here.
Ollantaytambo
- amazing location (right at the train station of Ollantaytambo, from where you take the train to Machu Picchu) - probably one of the best hotels (price quality ratio) in Ollantaytambo - very beautiful and big garden (we saw colibri in their garden)
Ollantaytambo
Fantastic hotel in a stunning location. Highly recommended in the Sacred valley. We loved the rooms, the garden, the decoration. It was just great Also, Tony prepared some home made pizzas in his stone pizza oven. They were absolutely delicious!!
Great hotel, conveniently located for town and the train station. Staff were great - was able to check in early on my day of arrival and then use the common area for most of the day before my train. Great shower and comfortable bed.
Wonderfull hotel in the very center of Ollanataytambo. Most helpfull staff we've ever met. Nice rooms with ruins view, comfortable beds and daily room cleaning. Best breakfast during our entire trip in Peru.
Ollantaytambo
The location is good, just outside the main square and a short walk to the Ollantaytambo ruins and the train station. There's hot water so taking shower a after a day of traveling was good.
The personnel of the Rupaq hotel waited for us until very late in the night and they were lovely. The breakfast is good and the room is calm, very good value for money in Ollantaytambo.
the service is excellent, all employees try their best to provide service. however the location is a bit far away from the town ollantaytambo, plus the road is really bad.
Ollantaytambo
Beautiful little place! The staff were so nice! I loved everything about this little town and the hotel. Will definitely come back
Ollantaytambo
